I just wonder if MBUSA is going to offer both the GLE400 (pointless) and the GLE450 (should have been here all along)?

That is interesting Wolfgang, they using a low tune version of the new AMG 4.0 biturbo V8 in the G500, it makes sense then to put it in the other models to replace the 4.7 ltr V8, certainly will help to save huge costs.

Mercedes-Benz Germany just published the new list for us, with GLE 400, GLE 450 AMG and GLE 500. Not sure which models MBUSA may offer, Merc1, perhaps the 450 AMG replaces the 400? These models are available to order now, and deliveries may begin in January 2016 according to MB Passion.

It would be a little soon for them to replace the GLE400 here, but it could happen I guess. I think they're going to just offer both. The GLE400 is the luxury offering and the GLE450 the AMG Sport model, it could work I guess if there isn't a huge price difference between them. They should have done that with the C400, make it a pure luxury offering and tucked it in between the C300 and C450 AMG Sport.

based on the latest number, the e43amg(old e450) will be getting 400hp. it is safe to say that the e500 will be dying this time. v8 will be reserved for amg only with the exception of niche models like s500, g500 and a few other models

The engine power and torque are not affected by the number of gears. On the other hand, increasing the number of gears means shorter gear ratios, so you'll probably see an increase of power and torque at the wheels.
