GLA Changes for the New Model Year

The GLA will change to the new model year in September, which will be available to order from July 3, 2015. This includes numerous changes, partly interior and exterior as well as telematics.

NTG 5*1, Garmin MAP PILOT

The GLA will receive among other things the new telematics generation NTG 5*1, and an 8 "media display is now also optional. The Audio 20 USB is now standard, and the Audio 20 CD is only available as an option. The Becker MAP PILOT was replaced by the Garmin MAP PILOT with Live Traffic information.

Apple CarPlay available from 2016

Apple CarPlay and Mirrorlink can be ordered starting on July 3, 2015 for the GLA, with an expected delivery in Q1 2016. A retrofit for earlier vehicles is unlikely (regardless of the production period).

Elbaite Green Metallic for the GLA

The exterior of the GLA receives a new paint color, which is already known from the A-Class facelift: Elbaite Green Metallic, while South Seas Blue Metallic is no longer available. In the interior, the new steering wheel generation is used - in 3-spoke design. Another new feature is the interior the Seat Comfort package with new seat cushion depth adjustment, the shift lever is shortened by 10 mm. The Exclusive package no longer is crystal gray leather, but leather sahara beige / black leather. Instead of the storage compartment with lid (code 309), there is now a cupholder with the center console (available from 2016).

GLA 220 d now with 177 hp

The power of the GLA 220 d and 220 d 4MATIC increases to 177 hp, the reversing camera receives dynamic guides on the display and a 180 degree view of the rear. The ambient lighting offers more color options and DYNAMIC SELECT comes with 4 driving modes (Comfort, Sport, Individual and offroad, as well as optionally Eco). A new optional chassis with adaptive adjustable damping and DYNAMIC SELECT is available as well. ATTENTION ASSIST was also revised.

GLA 45 AMG now with 381 hp / 475 Nm torque

The AMG version of the GLA - as Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 AMG 4MATIC shows up with new nomenclature: AMG lettering on the left trunk, GLA 45 lettering on the right. The previous "TURBO AMG" on the front wings is renamed to "TURBO 4MATIC", and the 4MATIC lettering on the boot lid was deleted. Technically the GLA 45 AMG receives the same equipment features as the facelift of the A-Class: 381 hp, 475 Nm of torque, AMG DYNAMIC SELECT and AMG speed-sensitive sports steering. The acceleration is happening now in 4.4 seconds, in addition, for the first time an AMG Drivers Package for up to 270 km/h is available.

That's quite a comprehensive model year update. They're even adding Dynamic Select. I like how MB doesn't wait for facelifts anymore and make continual product improvements every model year, which are quite substantial in some cases. I wonder if the CLA will get the same updates. It would only make sense.

Yes, the CLA also receives these updates. They are available now on www.mercedes-benz.de. :)

Spy video shows Mercedes-Benz has initiated testing of a lightly facelifted GLA due to come out in 2016.

Calling this a facelift is a bit of a stretch, because as you can see the tweaks have been kept down to a minimum. As a matter of fact, this prototype only has camouflage on and near the lighting clusters, while the rest of the car is pretty much undisguised. The production version could also come with some changes to the bumpers, but nothing of great importance.

The GLA will basically receive just about the same cosmetic revisions as the A-Class facelift revealed a few months ago. It’s the same story with the CLA and CLA Shooting Brakethat have already been spotted with barely any makeup.

Don’t hold your breath for any important mechanical changes as most of the hardware modifications implemented in the A-Class facelift are already available on the other three members of the A-Class family. One of the biggest changes for the GLA, CLA, CLA Shooting Brake will be the switch from optional bi-xenon to full LED headlights, hence the black tape on the headlights.

Although we don’t get to see the interior in the attached spy video, we know for sure the GLA facelift will get an updated 8-inch infotainment system with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Moreover, Mercedes-Benz will install galvanized switches and will also make some subtle changes to the instrument cluster.

Expect to see the GLA facelift go official in the first half of next year.

Surprised to hear nothing on the GLA and CLA. I heard word that both were supposed to get significant interior reworks because of the competition offering much more sophisticated looking layouts. I hope this is the case as both look more like something Mazda would offer.

I have an A250 arriving in Australia in April. Does anyone have an estimated date for the updated GLA? I'd consider moving to a GLA250. I know the current model has been partially updated with some interior changes, Apple CarPlay, adjustable suspension of the A Class facelift. I'm assuming the updated GLA will only have exterior cosmetic tweaks then?

MB Passion still claims it will premiere in the second half of this year, but not be introduced to the market until March or April of 2017. Some pics from MBUSA. :)

How has the GLA sold in Australia? I've heard rumours it might be dropped from sale over here. I don't want to be buying a model that will have poor resale value. It does seem to be far more practical than an A Class, particularly with the wider boot opening and extra room in the back. I'll be having a drive of a 250 on the weekend.

I doubt that. You can see enough of them on the road to see MB Australia won't be dropping it any time soon.
