G-Class [Official] Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG (W463)

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class, colloquially known as the G-Wagon or G-Wagen (as an abbreviation of Geländewagen), is a four-wheel drive luxury SUV manufactured by Magna Steyr (formerly Steyr-Daimler-Puch) in Graz, Styria, Austria, and sold by Mercedes-Benz. Originally developed as a military off-roader, later more luxurious models were added to the line. In certain markets, it was sold under the Puch name as Puch G until 2000.

Hey Soup, can you give us a update on your cars, especially your F12!

I've been driving the G63 a lot and can say it's pulling harder than the 5 previous months, since I've took delivery back in April 2016. The intoxicating V8TT sound makes it even that much better.

The change took effect at around 5,800km and now I'm at 6,100km~ and loving it. The best true SUV that I've ever owned vs (Cayenne / X5 / ML / Lexus+Toyota...) average speed 80 km/h ~ 160 km/h. Higher speeds are achieved on the highway or over 45mins drive with cruise control on. Overtakes are awesome in this heavy tank, it provides an unbelievable amount of torque in lower gears.

The windshield was designed to kill insects that I've never seen in my entire life, happens on the highway everytime o_O

It's a rock solid car, just way too thirsty for gas and has the worst fuel consumption out of all the cars I've driven/owned, only the F12 comes close if I go full throttle in manual mode + 'RACE'.

F12 is way too fast for city driving (after spending months in the G) and can get me into a lot of trouble if I don't monitor that right foot off mine, so I've kept her for weekends and midnight drives where people fall asleep and no ricers get to follow me to expect a vroom vroom or a wheelspin at every red light.

I have a feeling, the older I'll get the more I'll be spending time in a Merc

I'll be switching to Michelin when the Dunlop reaches its limits. Way too noisy when the revs are kept under 2,000 rpm.

  • The legendary G-Class has been in production on behalf of Mercedes-Benz at Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria since 1979.
  • Dr Gunnar Güthenke, head of the off-road product group at Mercedes-Benz: "The individualisation and technical optimisation of the G-Class contribute to the great success of the original off-road icon which still makes no compromises when it comes to off-road."
Stuttgart / Graz, Austria – The twenty thousandth Mercedes-Benz G-Class has left the Magna Steyr production line in Graz, Austria - a white Mercedes-AMG G63 (combined fuel consumption 13.8 l/100 km, combined CO2emissions 322 g/km). It is the first time that this volume has been achieved in one year. The G-Class that set up this year's production record is also a very special example. It has various "designo manufaktur" features, for example manually applied "designo mystic white bright" paintwork and an interior with designo leather manufactured in the in-house sewing.

"The individualisation and continuous technical optimisation of the G-Class contribute to the great success of the original off-road icon which still makes no compromises when it comes to off-road," says Dr. Gunnar Güthenke, head of the off-road product group at Mercedes-Benz. "The production of 20,000 G-Classes in one year confirms the high demand for the ‘G’ and likewise the quality of our vehicles, something that is highly appreciated by our customers. I am very pleased and also proud that some of our employees have been on board since production started around 37 years ago."

"designo manufaktur" makes this classic cross-country vehicle even more individual ex-factory. Customers can tailor the off-road icon to their personal style. The "Manufaktur" hand-finishing section, which turns a G-Class into a unique "G", is likewise located in Graz. Be it exterior or interior, topstitching or model badge, virtually every detail is lovingly crafted by hand. Here unique specimens that meet the most discerning requirements for quality and exclusivity are created with dedication, passion and artisanal perfection.

The legendary G-Class has been in production on behalf of Mercedes-Benz at Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria since 1979, and continues to be extremely popular with customers. More than a quarter of a million vehicles have been delivered to customers since the first model of the G-Class was introduced.

This popped up today while heading to the grocery store, passed by the dealer and she was thirsty (2.5L) refill granted.

I was told this is normal on AMG engines, especially if you drive continuously.

Hard driving in manual mode most of the time, still better than Porsche that asks you to refill every 500km ~ 700km

Clips of G63s making some bad ass noises.
Put on your good headphones or hi-fi speakers and enjoy.
(Just amazing how the engine note of the M157 is not drowned out by the twin-turbos.)
