EQS [Official] Mercedes-Benz EQS

The Mercedes-Benz EQS (V297) is a battery electric full-size luxury liftback car produced by Mercedes-Benz Group and part of the Mercedes-Benz EQ family. It was released in September 2021 in Germany and the fourth quarter of 2021 in the United States.
I dont know how much you guys can remember the F125 concept from 2011, but that car had almost the same silhouette (specially the roofline) as the EQS, only with 2 doors less. Short engine hood, short overhangs in the front, coupe roofline, coupe-like quite short boot.

Seeing a few of these in London being used in place of the default S class.

It blends in as something entirely unremarkable, however given the economic shit show that's taking place, perhaps that won't be such a bad thing in the coming years.

As a business, fleet or chauffeur car, the EQS is a lot cheaper than an S-Class. However, airport transfer businesses will likely continue to use ICE for sometime as the ability to refuel anywhere, reliably in 1-2minutes is business critical.

The EQS has its moments, but overall, its design is just nowhere near as desirable as an S-class. Hopefully the next EQS will become an S-class and not in the mold of the current EQS.

Totally agree and wish the same

And if it's the other way around?
Hopefully they would go back to the saloon shape like the S-class, like this render.

The EQC grill does look a whole lot better than the current ugly flat black plastic EQ grills.

Yes better, but generic and seen by several brands, I think the S class deserves more creativity, in the render you can see how the category would lower it.

I suppose that these years will serve for Wagonner to reflect on the damage caused to my eyes and will make something memorable between both models.

I was personally surprised at the EQS debut that the rear cabin was compromised to the extent that it is. Not really a problem in other markets but we've known forever that China values the rear cabin experience above all. The lack of interest due to that shouldn't be a surprise. This is precisely why the 7-series is going to be such a hit in China.

It'll be very interesting to see if the EQ sedans have a short lifecycle as a result of the Chinese market.

What about 'Murica? Is the EQS a sales flop over there?

Flop? No, sales have been fairly consistent over the last year (~600-700 units per month) although last quarter saw some delivery hiccups and was sightly lower.

Euro sales have been consistent as well.

They only sold less than 700 EQE in China which is close to nothing.

The E-Class delivered a healthy four digit sales number when being released.

So yes - fair to say it's going to form part in a low sales rank just like its EQ siblings.

They’re just not appealing cars. Mercedes design used to be the epitome of good taste and restraint.

Serves them right. They were overly focused on aerodynamics. The Taycan proves people will at this time still accept less range fore a genuinely good looking vehicle.

Yet it doesn’t seem the styling is the real issue here. The sales are fine everywhere but China, where the back seat seems to be a major barrier. Not that more conventional styling wouldn’t have been welcome…
