EQS (V297) [Official] Mercedes-Benz EQS

The Mercedes-Benz EQS (V297) is a battery electric full-size luxury liftback car produced by Mercedes-Benz Group and part of the Mercedes-Benz EQ family. Production: May 2021- Model years: 2022–
I remember when a number of key models were launched in South Africa about 10 years ago or so like the Golf 6 GTI and even the W222 S class there was many non brand (ie non Mercedes and non VW) dealerships that bought a large number of these cars and sold them at a huge profit due to the long waiting lists at the brand dealerships. It was quite amazing that some people would buy these cars that are actually now 2nd hand but at prices that are like 40% at least about the listed prices. Little did they realise that the high 1st year depreciation had already set in after they drove out the dealer. Plain robbery and greed from these dealers in my opinion.

Yes I remember these days to infact we had a contact at Mercedes so sometimes we would get a few extra on the order list and would buy them and sell and make in the years gone buy like 15 to 20 thousand rands ..

I remember I had the first c coupe that time called the CLC son order it came to the dealer and I wanted the car but I was on holiday the dealer called my dad and said we got a offer your son will get 20 k rands extra from a guy and Their went my CLC ..

Crazy and then few years later those cars would be sold in used car at great losses

Same is going to happen with the EQS
Only cars I can see with paying a little premium in Mercedes is

Black series AMG GT
G wagon
AMG one ( which you won’t get )

Is anyone on the forum considering buying an EQS?
I'm considering it when the 63 or whatever it will be called will come out.

For 3 reasons:

1.No alternative in the EV world right now...

2.I have an order for Model X Plaid right now , but it's delayed for the second half of this year , and everyday I am considering if this car will be still relevant by the end of the year...

3.I am hoping that an 63 version will look a little more aggressive , so I have some hopes . From some spy shots I see that the front bumper including front grill are under camo. So maybe they will be somehow better...

Right now , it looks bad . But so are the others... Let's see that 63. And aggressive front bumper and rear diffuser could be a game changer

Just read an AMS compact test about MB AMG EQS 53+
cW 0,23;
Investment a minimum of €157.306 (base price);
Range, if driven “artgerecht” circa 300 km. 500 km only seems realistic to AMS when driving very economical;
Battery functionality garantied for 250.000 km or ten years.

I’ve no intention of BEV bashing but this car would be a total loss for me after 4 years of ownership; don’t think anyone would buy it from me with 250.000 km+ on it. Why should I prefer buying this in stead of a W223 S class…

The battery life depends very much on the way you charge it. The battery is like the fuselage of an airplane. It's not so important how many miles the plane has flown but how many times the airplane has been pressurised, or with other words the number of take offs. For the battery is very similar. It lasts a certain number of charging cycles-so if you charge it on a fast charger for only 5 min to gain 100 km range you will significantly reduce the life of the battery. The bigger the battery the longer its life will be. If you have a charger at home at 11 kW and you charge only there, and let it almost fully drained and then fully charge it, a 108 kWh LiIo battery should last more than 500 000 km.

Verdict:

The EQS is a generously dimensioned, exceptionally comfortable and dynamic sedan. Its' rear wheel steering provides agility despite the cars' very high weight. Its' safety features are comprehensive.

On the Plus Side:

Ride and noise comfort
Very effective heating
Throttle response and easily applied torque
Small turning circle and agility provided by rear wheel steering
Numerous driving assistance features
Very quiet
Tax exemption (in Germany)

On the Minus Side:

Materials often not worthy of a luxury-segement vehicle
Poor A-and C-pillar area visibility
Hyperscreen glare
E-Mode capacities limited
Brake pedal movement and unprecise "feel"
Overly sensitive ESP-engagement thresholds
High weight and large dimensional footprint
High C02 manufacturing process footprint
High list price and expensive extras

Have you seen one Jimmy? Are the materials actually different to those in the S? So many reviews have raved on about how luxurious the interior is and then you get the odd one here and there complaining about it.
