EQC (N293) [Official] Mercedes-Benz EQC

The Mercedes-Benz EQC (N293) is a battery electric compact luxury crossover SUV and the first member of the battery electric Mercedes EQ family. It is succeeded by the GLC with EQ Technology (X540). Production: 2019–2023
Like the interior except for the old central part in the middle. That reminds me of the C/E.

So MBUSA is saying US market launch is 2020. I think that’s too far away. IMO, The launch window of opportunity for this car is the next 12 months. By 2020 the field will have a lot more entries - some perhaps more novel looking and more groundbreaking in terms of tech/weight/range.

All the other brand-rivals tend to have the same "problem" with heavy e-cars, which is a pseudo-problem as I used to back-up with my source. I still don't get your problem tbh since the weight is nothing to concern about. Was this car engineerd to be a Tesla-Killer or a revolutionary car for MB? I doubt it.....

First of all, I like how you're sorting it out :). Good style.
My 'problem' is ... the future, to be honest. Don't wanna sound all cheesy and stuff but it's true. I'm convinced that massive changes need to be implemented quickly. I don't think that electromobility will solve all problems but it can be part of the solution.
If it is done right. This is where I'm getting back to your initial post about me being wrong and, even more importantly, the article you're obviously building your argumentation upon. The study that is quoted there is an infamous one conducted by notorious Prof. Dudenhöffer who is not exactly a technical luminary. His basic argument is: lightweight constructions in e cars are much more expensive than the energy savings they enable. He is testing that hypothesis with i3 and Model S under varying loading conditions. There is the catch: it is not about payloads primarily (since in an e car, consumption does not increase linearly with payload ... > recuperation), it is about basic weight and its correlation with range... physics. 450 km of range are good for an electric car but not for one that weighs 2,5 tons. As I said, Teslas already have a better range. Some of Dudenhöffer's numbers are correct but he interprets them only according to his own agenda. Here is my calculation (and that of many other experts in the field who roasted the authors for their publication): The i3 consumes 12 to 13 kWh/100 km, a Model S about 17 to 19 kWh. So there is factually and substantially less energy consumption. Which also means that with a Model S like battery, an i3 is getting about 25% farther. Or, it needs much 'less' battery (and resources) to make the same distance. Since sustainable electricity is not limitless (at least with regard to infrastucture/availability, etc.), saving it from the beginning is relevant. Electromobility only makes sense when it is in sync with efficiency improvements. In order to achieve that, you need truly innovative vehicle constructions. Instead, current marketing efforts are trying to make people believe that weight does not matter anymore which will probably lead to some steely automobile dinosaurs. I fear that most people and (potential) customers will believe the recuperation hype. And I'm pretty sure that even next gen BMW i vehicles will be old-timers without carbon core or something.

Well the others from Audi, Porsche and BMW will be going on sale around the same time. Mercedes will probably beat them to actual market since they haven't even been official revealed yet.

Only the flat earthers who don't believe in the laws of physics ;)
Weight and handling will never go together.

^I hadn't even started about handling :) but yes. Those two don't go well together, too.

Well done Merc. :eusa_clap
It's far better than I expected.
Black is pure perfection.
I like normal interior in electric car.
It will be good choice for electric SUV.

Would like to see the AMG-Line with black exterior
Interior is for 10+. :eusa_clap
Exterior also right call.
Especially in black color. :wthumb2:

What is the reason, for new electric car, to have middle tunnel at the rear seat? (Or they are using the same platform as GLC?) It is understandable for iX3 since they use the same platform as ICE car. Even Audi e-tron has flat floor. By the way, the design is nice. AMG line looks really good.

In reality this a variant of the MRA platform.

I'm still digesting the exterior design, but I think I'm going to be won over. The black example looks fantastic in the video.

Mercedes proves one thing with this car. They are 'THE KING OF THE PARTS BIN SPECIAL INTERIOR!' I like elements of the design but I'm bloody tired of seeing the same door panels and centre consoles to be honest.

^ Agreed, it's pretty dissapointing that MB hasn't added more bespoke touches to the interior and even the exterior for that matter..

It weighs nearly the same as Model X 90d.
X weighs 2474 kg (claimed), heaviest EU 2569kg. It is longer than EQC, about 5 meters long.

^storage for charging cable I think

The whole front trunk is storage for cable?

It has to be front engine.

Engine as in electric motor? That shouldn't take up the whole front trunk either.

Range is 450 km.. Release is by Mid 2019. Charge stations are growing all over Europe China and US.

450km is the NEDC range, which is a joke. EPA range will probably be around 380km

On paper at least, can't say what I see so far impresses me - mediocrity that will arrive 2 years later. But guess better late than never.

^ Front needs some getting used to a

The front has the same problem as the Audi Q8: A grille with a double surround - one chrome and one black. Most here like the white and black cars because the black surround blends in with either the AMG grille or the black paint.

I pray it's not the start of a new trend as I find it highly unattractive.

Mercedes have hyped the EQ as a progressive sub-brand. While the exterior is true to the concept, the interior is not. Overwhelmingly it comes across as an E-Class interior with two new screens - no clever interior packaging or features.

Why bother with the concept interior if the car was going to have an E-Class-eque interior for the next 7 years? Even the A-class interior looks newer.

I like what they have done with the vents, the new rectangular shape and copper strip elements are a refreshing change to the boring circular aluminium vents that are in most Mercs (A, B, C, E, CLS, S-Class, SL) for the last 2 generations. Also nice is the use of a fabric type material for the covering of the dash and seats, instead of slush molded plastic or MB tex stitched vinyl. What I don't like is them sticking the shiny black piano center console straight from the E-class in and instead they could have been bold and used a center console similar to the Concept with touch sensitive controls and buttons which would have fitted in more with this cars role as been the high tech trend setter in the Mercedes range. The center console looks old tech compared to the rest of the interior.
