EQC (N293) [Official] Mercedes-Benz EQC

The Mercedes-Benz EQC (N293) is a battery electric compact luxury crossover SUV and the first member of the battery electric Mercedes EQ family. It is succeeded by the GLC with EQ Technology (X540). Production: 2019–2023
This looks fantastic. Interesting new design yet with the safety of typical Mercedes design familiarity, really well executed inside and outside. If I was Tesla, I would be very worried now. Their USP is no longer unique. Plus this brand has pedigree.

Front is a no-no, as expected. Unfinished, bland, soft, generic ... interior ok, but again just another variation of existing ones. What is shocking me most, however, and it's kind of a surprise to me (as I heard rumours suggesting a much better outcome): >2400kg?????!!! Are you kidding me? Or did I mishear that? A vehicle in SUV guise (high, wide, big wheels) and such a weight cannot be a game changer in terms of energy consumption, no matter if it's...

Sorry, you are wrong. The weight plays no role for the range. There are even reports about the topic where an i3 with 200kg of storage had the same range than an unladen I3. Same for the rest of electric cars. I can post that report FYI. Also the battery weighs 650kg without cooling and heatpump. That's usually for batteries that size.

Edit: Gewicht spielt bei Elektrofahrzeugen keine entscheidende Rolle für Reichweite | Elektroauto-News.net

Edit²: Since some member is unable to read I give the rest a quick summary of whats written in german above: The difference between light and heavy e-cars in range is almost non existent due to the recuperation. The higher the weight, the better the elctric motor(s) can recharge into the batteries.

The overall design is a no-go, totally bland and uninspiring, too soft for its purpose. The front grille is absolutely dreadful - the grille from the concept would have been miles better.

And the interior - oh no, the same, on-and-on, unending slab of screens with absolutely no design taste whatsoever.

Looking at the Audi e-tron, it will certainly be unparalleled by this horrifying wet dream of Wagener.

:sick::sick::sick:

This Wagener guy must have given you the worst nightmares. Might explain your complaining about his cars in every thread so far.

Could you enlighten me please @hovabongZA why you gave me a disagree, though I posted a legit source rather than some assumption? Are you fluent to to the german language and wanna tell me where I misread?????:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

The size of this EQC is only 50mm shorter than the existing GLE, which weighs 2240kg in AMG GLE 43 trim with almost same power at 390PS/287kw. If you compare this then and with an additional 650kg electric battery pack, then 2425kg is acceptable for an electric SUV of this size and power.

With all due respect but I'm pretty certain that I'm not wrong with what I wrote. I have dealt with e-mobility for at least two decades and the only thing I said was that this is no step forward. I wasn't talking about range as an isolated variable. I was obviously referring to the sum of all aspects and the full package incl. for instance deceleration effects. Marketeers tend to relativize high weights of e cars with higher recuperation (and so does the semi-scientific article you linked) but that is just not valid. Let me put it like that: with regard to all figures available right now, I don‘t see massive improvements compared to, say, a Model X. And you know, I‘m a Tesla sceptic, waiting and hoping for the Germans to successfully enter the electric field.
Besides, in the official pics, it even looks like they are using standard tires on that car, so a main source of PM1 has obviously not even been addressed by them.

Here's my takeaway so far...

Starts around $70-75K.
Range of only 200 miles.
No dedicated charging infrastructure.
And release is still 2 years away.

I'm going to hold judgement until this has hit the market. But initial thigjtho are that only the die-hard MB aficianados will be buying this over the Model X.

Range is 450 km.. Release is by Mid 2019. Charge stations are growing all over Europe China and US.

Oh c'mon, we're adults here. It's no secret that I think he is overrated. He just does what he does and bears a strong signature ... so it's only logical I don't particularly like most of his works. But believe me, he doesn't give me sleepless nights and never did. Just like all those forum members who dislike any new BMW don't have AvH nightmares, hopefully.

@Amat46 With all due respect but what is there to disagree on my latest post? There is not even info in it that one might disagree with.

I would not buy at $70K. MB would sell it well at $45K

Ok, apart from Mercedes Benz fans are there people that genuinely find this to be an attractive looking car? This is Ssangyong levels of ugly.Ignore the star on that grill and look at it.

^ Front needs some getting used to and the interior is typical MB generic blandness, but the overall car to me looks really nice.

All the other brand-rivals tend to have the same "problem" with heavy e-cars, which is a pseudo-problem as I used to back-up with my source. I still don't get your problem tbh since the weight is nothing to concern about. Was this car engineerd to be a Tesla-Killer or a revolutionary car for MB? I doubt it. It sits on a modified ICE-platform which is pretty darn limiting for a BEV-only purpose. All this I know without two decades of being into e-cars. ;) I agree with the rest of you that this car is nothing groundbreaking. But at least it's no GLC with blue strips. I hope that we don't end up talking at cross purposes though I have a pretty strange feeling we do. I don't want crush the thread with this so we could further argue via PN.

I wasn't even talking to you, busty. And quiet frankly anyone wo dishes it out must also be able to take it. It was childish from my side but I could not help pointing that out.

Funny how everybody on this forum these days has a 'source' and 'insider info'.

I feel so left out.

Yup, you're one of the driving forces in keeping that circle round and going.

Their source or insider probably doesn't even work for one of the car manufacturers, but is a speculator and works on the stock market!
