Yeah Mate I love it more I drive it I love it and I think it looks classy and sporty..I thought it was a brilliant ride till I drive the S class lol that's in another league.

One day I'll be lucky like Mick lol.

Lol, don't we all..:D, but you're right in saying, the E is still a great car..

Hey guys just a bit of a update on my E..I was sent a letter for some work that needed to.be done last year so I booked and went to Mercedes Watford Monday for the work tof be done it was some wiring they changed and then they did some software upgrade on the car first time I heard of this it's almost like and most upgrade on the phone where they spent like 4 hours upgrading some things.

Anywyas I found a few small and nice changes the dual screen as those who used will know you can setup up to 5 differnt display and now with the upgrade u get more information in the split screen on navigation. Also when u change now between sport classic and progressive even the left side screen colours change which is a coold new feature.

I also found or felt my touch pads on the steering were a little faster I hope I not imagining things lol..

Overall it's nice to get these small upgrades free and nice to see MB new system of upgrades.

I have 9200 km on my car, waiting for the 15,000 km to take it to the service. There is a software update feature in the car setting, it does work when I connect the car to the internet, but since I bought the car I have never seen any updates available, why they are doing the software upgrades at the dealer workshop if there are such feature in the car ? is MB not ready to start publishing their updates to the car directly via internet ?

Regarding the new COMMAND system, the more I use the car system the more I get used to it and do shortcuts, I love the system representation with its colors and different menus, also it has many feature and different display screens (specially combines with the dual screen), but I still feel that they need to work on the data processing speed, I can see that BMW and Audi systems are faster in response, however the new E screen resolution is the best I have seen so far.

Hey mate I think this upgrade can only be done at the dealer I am not sure why but it was a long update anyways I think it's safer for them to do.. the last thing u want is a update error and then you messed up..

About the new command I love it and love the display.. I love the steering touch pads...

Actually, I use my E400 on daily basis, and KSA is a big country with lots of highways, I also travel from city to city and to other Arabian Gulf neighbor countries, I love traveling long distances with this car, it is extremely quite and comfortable to drive. Off topic, my old Infiniti G35 2007 sedan has now 170,000 km, I own it now for 10 years :) and I would say I still enjoy driving it, what a solid and powerful car!!

Drove an E220d for 5 days. Here are my impressions:

The pros:
- good driving dynamics
- air vents have a solid feel
- power is impressive for a two liter engine, a bit noisy under high load
- 9G gearbox is almost on par with ZF8, shifts smoothly
- good space inside
- ambient lightning looks very nice

The bad things:
- basic trim looks cheap, plastic is hard and buttons on the central console are "shacking"
- analog cluster is somehow perpendicular and boring, the previous model has better details
- navigation system is very slow, like it doesn't have enough processing power
- command system usability is below Audi MMI and it looks like an old Nokia OS
- steel suspension is not so refined and produce too much road noise

As I'm considering buying an S-class Coupe, my biggest concern is the slow navigation response.
I hope there is better processing power in that one.

I feel like MB is really cutting costs, a big disappointment being the missing fabric on the trunk ceiling, it looks so bad.

My girlfriend 2006 CLK has more solid feel which really impressed me about MB, however it looks like time has changed.

So for anyone who's looking to buy a true Mercedes Benz, get air suspension, leather trim and full LCD cluster.

The new Mercedes-Benz E-class has been the voted the winner of the UK Car of the Year Awards 2017. Having already been awarded the accolade of Best Executive Car when the category winners were announced at the beginning of January, the E-class then cruised to victory in the overall vote.

The Mercedes S-class Cabriolet won the Best Cabriolet category.

John Challen, director of the UK Car of the Year Awards, said: “Mercedes-Benz has a long history of creating impressive saloon cars and the new E-class continues this trend and raises the bar in the executive vehicle sector.

“Stunning inside and out, it takes driver and passengers into the realms of luxury. The level of technology – and the attention to detail – at your fingertips is astounding.”

Fellow director Alisdair Suttie added: “The E-class has it all and does it very well. Its refinement, comfort and style mean you want for nothing else.”

I am a huge fan of the current E-class, rating its class, comfort and quality, as well as an excellent range of engines.

My fellow UK CotY judges clearly agreed. Top Gear’s Tom Ford said: “The E-Class reigns supreme: endlessly entertaining interior, top-notch quality, comforting and comfortable dynamics.”

David Ross, editor of HonestJohn.co.uk, added: “If you’re looking for a near perfect car – surely this is it. The E-class is just sublime. Comfortable, quiet and quick – it’s a very easy car to love,” while Fleet World’s Alex Grant claimed the Mercedes was “a technological showcase. Beautifully built and a pleasure to drive, wherever your journey takes you, the E-class resets the executive class benchmarks”.

In the overall category, the E-class triumphed over the Volvo V90 and Jaguar F-Pace, which finished in joint second place, with Hyundai’s Ioniq and the Ford Focus RS in joint third.

Launched in 2014, the UK Car of the Year Awards are judged by 27 of Britain’s most-read motoring journalists. Each judge uses their expertise to pick out the top performer in 12 vehicle categories, before deciding the overall winner from their favourites in each class.

I agree with some of your points specially with lower trim quality, since the car you drove has the analog cluster, I'm assuming that the LCD was the smaller one with the old command system ? because the new command looks really nice and modern.

Since @Monster is updating his C class experience, I felt that I should keep you guys updated about my E400.

Currently I have 10,000 km, so I have more experience now and I have tried all the car features (at least what I know is available :) ), so lets start.

Driving:-

I do love the E400 engine, it is almost perfect all the time combined with the 9G gearbox, the car has enough torque at all speeds, and I'm used to driving on Comfort mode as it is my favorite for everyday drive. The car accelerates from 0 at the 2nd gear, it is smooth and have perfectly enough power, however, when I'm on a slop up, the car requires more power to accelerate and it will come back to the first gear when stepping on the throttle which annoys me. No comments on the handling and comfort as I'm more than satisfied (although I would go for smaller rim size than my 20'')

Car features:-

I don't have the autopilot feature, but I have the road keeping assistant, I used to shut it off but recently I gave it a chance and I loved it, it makes you feel aware all the times and the lane braking corrections is a nice features, the adaptive mode makes it more smart as it reads your steering wheel movement and acceleration to avoid interfering at the wrong time. The active breaking assistant is also nice and did not interfere at any wrong moment (except one time when I was entering my work place gate and the security guy was near the car range and it stopped, bad timing, good call by the E :) ), the system has 3 levels of warning, 1)red tringle, 2)alarm and lastly it will interfere by braking.
The command system becomes very easy to use and user friendly, it has many user friendly shortcuts. My only comment on the system is the processing speed, they should work on speeding up the system. Touchpads on the steering wheel makes using cluster screen very easy, but I don't use the other one for the infotainment screen, most probably because the system is slower than the touchpad. The Car MB apps is limited, only TuneIn and weather broadcast is available so far, but I have a feeling that the list might increase because there is a software update feature within the car, speaking of the update feature there are no updates so far since I bought the car. I have the wireless charging feature which is very practical and keeps my phone charged all the time (I have an iPhone but I have installed the wireless charging cover, it is worth it), all I can say is that it does work and the charging speed is good.

What I don't like about the car:-

- the 20'' AMG rim give the car a beautiful look, but it is hard on the rough road bumps, and I'm 80% sure that I have already bent my rim :(
- Command system needs to be faster
- The car does not memorize your driving preference, if you don't like the comfort mode then you need to change it every time you start the car, also it does not memorize the auto engine stop/start feature preference.
- Generally, you need to purchase the car with higher trim to have the right MB build quality, which is unjustified and will increase the car price drastically (most car manufacturers approach, but should not be MB)

This is what I have so far, I'm really enjoying this car day after day, I will keep you guys posted. your questions are mostly welcomed :)

You're right @Eng.ahad, the one that I've drove had the small screen version of command system, however is not an excuse, the navigation was horrible, faulty and slower than anything I've seen.

The basic trim made it look not superior in any aspect to a C-class, aside space obviously. If I remember correctly the C-class dash seemed made of better quality plastic.

Before going to the airport I stopped to a MB dealer in Munich and sat in a well equipped version with leather, full lcd cluster, totally different car but probably cost 70k euro.

It looks like Mercedes increased the base prices while building a cheaper product (VW level).
They started to focus on making profits rather than on customer satisfaction.
Swarowski crystals and no trunk ceiling fabric cover... lol

I am this year shopping for a new car and I'm not sure if the S-Coupe is going to be it, hope to drive it soon along with the 7 series which I consider too.

@Eng.ahad , MB World member reported that you can now turn off the auto start/stop feature in the E.
IMG_0107.webp

Maybe Wolf can chip in.
You are right, however, you can only change it in ''individual'' drive mode, which resets to ''comfort'' mode every time the car restarts (it will not reset if I restart the car within 3 hours as per the manual). Conclusion, it is easier to just turn the feature from the button in the middle console than change to individual drive mode every time (one button push vs 3 button push) , but it is still stupid from MB not to save my last driving preference, or when I use the same car key.
