E-Class (W213/C238/A238) [Official] Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213

The Mercedes-Benz W213 is the fifth generation of the E-Class range. It succeeded the W212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models (C238/A238) share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. Production: February 2016–2023. Model years: 2017–2023.
Well 401hp isn't enough to compete with the 550i or S6. They need at least 450hp at that level.

M

Mass confusion here.

Mercedes won't bring the W213 E43 AMG with I6 and more than 400 HP this year nor 2017. The inline six engines need the new "Star 2.3" architecture that recently premiered in the W213 but with 48-volt support. The 48-volt-architecture allows engineers to use ISGs (small electric engines with 20hp) or/and electric augmented turbos. This key feature will be shown in the W222 facelift and I highly assume that MB wants to show this feature in their flagship first. Petrolheads will be disappointed but if my sources are correct you guys have to wait at least for more than a year to get a real E43 AMG.

But the way... M256 (I6 petrol) max output is rated at 435 HP plus 20hp of electric power (ISG).

E43 = 435 HP (because E43.5 sounds bad).

You might be right about the I6, but there will be an E43 in 2016. The car will use an upgraded version of the M276 with larger turbos.

Indeed, 400HP doesn't sound enough to compete with the other Germans but I suppose that's all you can get from the M276.

So does it mean that E43 will premier will V6 first then gets replaced with the I6 during W222 facelift? Does it also mean that an S43 is on the pipeline?

Also do you have any info that we don't know about on the E63?

Yeah right. E43 AMG will have V6 first and the I6 later on (around 2017 or 2018).
The E63 AMG will be close to 600hp output and will also gain the 9-Speed-MCT and a new AWD.
I dont now about an S43 though.

A S43 AMG won't make sense at all, since the S500/S550 is a top seller. Two similarly powerful engines in the same price segment seems to be odd. I also expect that the GLE 500 will be discontinued, once the GLE 450 gets the power boost to 400HP.

In the e-class the E500 was dead, also the 550i is not very popular in Europe.

Wholeheartedly agree.

No one is going to want a V6 S-Class when they can get a standard one with a V8 for probably the same cost.

The E500/550 worked for awhile, but it was a total flop with the W212F. I think I've only ever seen one W212F E550, but that's if my memory serves me well, but I digress.

Very few people want a V8 E-Class without an AMG badge on it. The E400 was a fantastic move, and and if the sales of the C450 are any indication (they've been flying off the shelves here), the E43 will sell incredibly well.

Voila .. the new trackpad is here
Glad they're keeping the wrist pad for the new COMAND controller.

:)

Well, for you model collectors, I'm happy to report that W213 models are starting to appear! The first ones are with the Exclusive package in Iridium and Obsidian in 1:87 scale, and I just got word that 1:43s will released shortly, with 1:18s soon.

Very rare indeed, people here take the M5 or E63 instead. I think the V8 is going to be discontinued in the next 5er too, the only V8 will be the M5.

They brought along the Audi A6 and BMW F10 5-series to compare. haha!

@BMW3GT and @Wolfgang will Mercedes bring out higher powered versions of the new I6 diesel engine to rival the Audi A6 3.0 TDI Bi-Turbo (326PS) and BMW 535d (313PS) as well as M550d (381PS) models?

If so when do we expect these I6 diesels to be launched?

Yes indeed. The current output is at 340hp and ~700NM of torque for the OM656, but the MB engineers in Unterturkheim are still at work to squeeze out some PS.
Hardcore variants to battle BMWs quad turbo diesel and Audis V8 e-turbo diesel may come later.

Mercedes E Class Estate spied virtually undisguised
The Mercedes E Class Estate has been spied virtually undisguised sitting next to the outgoing model.

Set to be introduced later this year, the wagon follows in the footsteps of the E Class sedan and adopts a two-bar grille and stylish bodywork. The rear end is covered by plastic sheeting but it features a tailgate-mounted spoiler, wraparound taillights, and an elegant dual exhaust system.

The interior will carryover from the sedan so customers can expect higher quality materials and a number of high-end features including a new steering wheel with touch-sensitive control buttons that respond to horizontal and vertical swiping movements. The wagon will also be offered with an assortment of options including an ambient lighting package, a Burmester 3D surround sound system, and a digital instrument cluster which uses two 12.3-inch displays.

Under the hood, a variety of different engines will be available including a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. Mercedes could also offer a plug-in hybrid variant which has a four-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor, and a battery pack. It enables the sedan to produce 279 hp and travel approximately 18.6 miles on electricity alone.

This is going to be great looking wagon maybe better than the saloon. It's rear end doesn't seem as upright as previous model it's more raked. I wonder if the carrying capacity will be less than the S212

Okay, first of all, the S213 E63 will probably be one of the greatest hoon machines man has ever created.
Secondly, the S213 is one of the prettiest cars I've ever seen!
Thirdly......Wow...just wow!
