The C238 is one of the very few automobiles of which I prefer the cabriolet. Very much so, in fact.

I expect those nodules hide the holes for Euro plates. I have thought about yanking them and painting, but I will wait until someone bolder than me does it...

The rear bumper of the U.S spec model looks like crap.

What's with the lumps around the plate?

They're there to allow the car to pass U.S. low speed impact standards. We have to have sturdier bumpers compared to ROW.

Last I heard anything, a 63 version of the E Coupe and Cabriolet could neither be denied nor confirmed. With the 53s out, has there been any news on 63s?

Every report recently has repeated that there is no 63 model coming. In fact, an executive mentioned this in a recent interview. I'll try to find it.

I kinda see why they won't do an E63 coupe/cabrio, but IMO the E53 should have been closer to 500hp to make up for no V8. That said, I'll take a E53 Cabrio please.

I totally agree that the 53 is lacking on power. Its not very enticing, beautiful as it is.

MB AMG has managed to re-create the W124 Hammer with the W213 E63 S. It is motoring perfection. But on what should be the sportier version of the car, they are dilly-dallying.

In the famous analogy of Jeremy Clarkson, You are gonna be at a traffic light in your E53 coupe and someone is gonna pull up next to you in a C63 S sedan, and your heart in going to sink to your butt with depression because your car sounds like a pig in an abattoir...well by comparison

100%

The "reduced fat" formula will be a mental barrier to those who love everything about the car. While the 53 will be punchy it won't knock your socks off or sound as amazing as a 63 version.

I don't know what Mercs problem is. do they think a 63 version will cannibalise E-sedan and CLS sales? Neither Audi nor BMW have a coupe in this sweet spot size. It's a missed opportunity by Merc not to treat the E-Coupe like others Merc.

I assume MB wants those who wants the maximum sports coupe experience to go for the AMG GT, because the E 63 coupe would have been priced very similar to the entry level AMG GT anyway...Just my guess.

Adventurous speculation perhaps:

Could it be that Mercedes-AMG is, in fact, planning to expand its' stand-alone MRA(Evo)-based car range with 2 door, 2+2, 4.0L biturbo V8 (with electrical assistance in the top range models) powered coupe + cabriolet offerings that would complement the X290 GT 4 door liftback ? Would that actually materializing render a C238 63(s) AMG superfluous ?

I don’t understand all the moaning here. If you need a powerful car, go buy a 63 branded car!!!! Not everyone wants a thunderous V8.

Agreed - the 53 will be an awesome performer. Not everyone wants a totally hardcore car that is quite frankly over-powered in RWD guise (C63) and excessively costly in AWD (E63).

I totally agree with those commenting about the need for an E63 Coupe. There is NO WAY a 53 has the cojones that a 63 has. AMG represents power, prestige, and a great sound. We just took delivery of an AMG GLC43 for my wife and I can tell you is does not have an AMG sound to it. I don't consider the 43's or 53's true AMG's. They are Sports!

20 years from now, changes in private vehicle ownership will make AMG a fond memory.

^ AMG boss Tobias Moers explained it recently. :)

Talk time with AMG's Tobias Moers

In a recent interview with AMG boss Tobias Moers, it sounded that for the time being the 53 models were placed on the market as additional line. He said drive technology denoted the numbers as follow: 53 = with hybrid and 43 = without hybrid. In the long term one can assume there will be only the 53 models. Source: MB Passion
