CLE 63 will be 4cyl and E53 will be 6 cyl.
Wait, I know I've been away and hardly posting like at all and mainly it's the W16 replacement I'm watching. But 63 4 cylinder and 53 6 cylinder.

Germans are usually logical. ^That's like, well, not.

Look even Lucy says so. Smh.

If no one wants the C-Class with that engine, this coupe half a meter larger with special aspirations will be even more rejected if that is possible.

It's tacit admittance that the turbo 4 hybrid is not desirable, so they're throwing enthusiasts a bone.

As I've said though, they would be better off lifting the E53 hybrid drivetrain into the CLE63.

Continuing to make the same missteps is foolishness at this rate.

You're naive if you think they can change up things like that on the fly.
They have to follow the chosen path, or delay for years and add much R&D.

Basically, mistakes were made in the past, and rectifying that takes time.......and much time they do not have left going by the changing rules and regulations.

Exactly pre production prototyping takes entire years.

Oh I understand well enough. It still hurts my heart.

I personally would take my losses and just bin the 4-pot 63. Or at the very least rebrand it as something else.

CLE 680 E-performance would do fine. At least it wouldn't tarnish a beloved badge.

I know we're supposed to get the E 53 and CLE 63se end of March, but is there any news on when we're expecting to have actual drive/reviews of the CLE 53?

The number of Mercedes models of this generation that do not pass 3.5 stars is enormous and like never before seen.
I can accept anything but getting in and the interior having squeaky plastics is a deal breaker for me, and I don't understand why it isn't for all, being Mercedes Benz cars.
I wouldn't believe a review like this from a previous car salesman that joined Auto Express in 2019.

I would honestly believe the video review from a veteran and extremely well experienced journalist and ex racing driver Steve Sutcliffe.

Surprising he is also working for Auto Express but his review of the CLE is extremely positive.

I personally prefer the rear light styling of the previous E-class coupe to the CLE. I don't like the black plastic panel joining the tail lights of the CLE, it makes the rear look cheap.

The E is clearly more expensive looking. If Mercedes really wanted their coupe to sell they would have basically given the market an E coupe at this new price point.

I agree with this. It's the whole package IMO.
Mb could have gone just ever so slightly upmarket instead of giving the CLE the econobox C-Class generic looks.

Mercedes says it asked C- and E-Class Coupe owners what they wanted in a new-generation model. C-Class buyers wanted more cachet, while E buyers wanted sportier dynamics. The answer was to give the CLE-Class the size and look of the E-Class with C-Class dynamics.

I go back and forth on the car. It looks the part here.

Compared with the EQ models it's beautiful. I bet the increased lenght makes it look tidy and elegant in person.

I like the CLE, its still a good looking coupe. The front looks sleek with its long low bonnet and swept back head lights. The only disappointment perhaps is the rear styling. I could live with the C-class interior as it looks great, but only thing is the cheaper plastics lower down on the dash and door cards.

Maybe sales will prove me wrong, but seems like a miss. The Ecab was by far the biggest sales producer among the coupe and cabrio lines. And it really wasn't close (I'm speaking of the US). The luxury feel, materials ride, and space of the E cab was really unmatched. The CLE is clearly a C-Class with a I6 option. The B-Pillar is a huge disappointment.

The CLE cab also doesn't have a B pillar the same way the E cab didn't. So if you're looking at the cabriolet models there really isn't that much of a difference, between the E and the CLE. The CLE is just slightly bigger and more spacious.

Cabs usually don't have a B-Pillar... the point is the coupe doesn't have a pillarless design anymore.
