The W206 C-class generally feels like a stop-gap product anyway. Like its the step in between the outgoing ICE C-classes and the incoming full-EV C-classes.

Makes me wonder why they bothered with the 43 and 63 in the first place. Real shame.

How does it feel like a stop gap product?

There's a lot of complaints about the shoddiness of the interior in terms of quality in comparison to the W205. It looks very good to the eye - a baby S-class even, but is cheap to touch and feel. The powertrain options are weak throughout the range, with the sweet spot being the C300. There's no real reason to go for a 43 and definitely no reason to go for a 63.

And given that there's already an EV replacement in camo, just gives me the feeling that this generation of C-class is not long for the world.

The complaints about Mercedes’ interiors being cheap are not limited to the C. It’s a new car. To me a stopgap would be heavy facelift of the old car. The engine choices are degraded across their lineup unless you buy a G,SL,GT or S. The car isn’t going away if anything it has to live on longer in certain markets where an EV for everyone isn’t reality.

I think we in a similar situation with Mercedes as in the later 90s when they brought out interiors with bad build and material quality and the W206 C-class will probably get a heavy FL interior in 2025. Maybe it could be shared with the new BEV CLA and probably receive better build and new MBUX.

I think the new C-class feels solid inside and didnt creak when I pressed on the trim panels. The major negative of the interior is the hard plastics used on the lower section of the dashboard and doors which could be solved in the FL.

What a time it was. The W140, R129 and the first generation ML all sharing the same showroom floor. The ML felt like something made by an entirely different company.

The W203 also received a heavy interior FL that put it closer to the W211’s interior quality. It certainly improved a lot.

Since the W214 seems to have not quality issues, maybe a FL for the W206 can fix its interior. Though with the first C-Class EV test mules already on the streets, not sure even if the W206 will be around long enough to get a FL…

The W206 will be around in some form until they ban the ICE car in the EU, which now stands at 10 years.
So plenty of time left. Same will happen with the G20; it too will be heavily facelifted and be sold next to the NK platform as a CLAR car.

At least this is my educated guess. BEV is hitting a lull.

That looks f$cken dog ugly. Mercedes will be shot down if a C-class had to look like that POS lol!

It seems loosely based on the EQ XX

That first ML was like the W210 E-class, the interiors on both were shite and a disaster for Mercedes. This was the same time the VW Golf IV launched, and its interior made both look very cheap.
