a great looking compact cabrio, again as with the coupe, this cabrio blows the competition away in terms of looks IMO, taking the S-Cabrio's main styling cues, but that said I think there is a danger of it being over styled a touch too much. also an historical event, since this is the first C-Cabrio ever and quite frankly much needed, if a little late.
I Disagree, in our usual tour of Geneva with some high ranking members of the Groups design department. One design boss laid out fundamental points that in case of the C-Cabrio the engineers won over the designer.
One point illustrated is that in order to accommodate the removal of the roof the outline around the open section had to be built-up in order to accommodate the removal of the roof. The Rolls-Royce Dawn also has it to help with the transition from Coupe-Cabrio.
Also whilst trying to incorporate S-Klasse style the roof is set too far back leaving a small deck that when the roof is up it looks like a hatchback made into a Cabrio from yesteryear.
The S-Klasse has the longer wheelbase so can pull it off flawlessly but the shorter C-Klasse looks as if the rear of the car has melted. Its one of the reasons why passenger space in the rear is compromised and the boot not being capacious.
0730 - Andrew Frankel reports from the show floor: "The new Mercedes-AMG C63 Cabriolet will follow hot on the heels of the C43 Cab revealed in Geneva last night. Originally thought to be revealed at the end of the year, it now seems the car will be unveiled later this month. Like its saloon, coupe and estate sisters, the C63 Cabriolet will be available in both standard and 'S' guises, the additional weight of the convertible roof adding just 0.1sec to the 0-62mph time."
