A-Class (W177) [Official] Mercedes-Benz A-Class (W177)

The W177 hatchback was launched in 2018 as the successor to the W176 Mercedes-Benz A-Class. It is available as a 5-door hatchback (W177 model code), 4-door sedan (V177), and a long-wheelbase sedan exclusive to China (Z177).
Ah, these boards... When one enters a new MB/BMW car thread, it is already clear who is gonna say what.

I wonder what makes someone's mind to always like what a brand produces and dislike what the competition does.

It must be marketing's big achievement I guess.

You sound like a broken record :)
People simply give their opinions, and I think the front of this car look as ugly and Chinese as the new CLS.
And that has nothing to do with it being a Benz. Or maybe everything, as a Benz shouldn't look like this.

What do you think of it? You're far above us all after all, without this childish behaviour

Where I come from, people say only the truths offend, should I interpret from your post you feel identified with the profile I have described in my post?

These days, Mercedes-Benz seems to be going on a very fashionable attitude, trying to be too gimmicky, too glossy, too trendy and this is really tiring and exaggerated. Come on, it's just a car, it's not like they reinvented the wheel. That fancy wrapping and the big words are simply way off.
Thats what you call marketing! They are promoting their new car as much as possible and putting alot of icing on the fancy wrapping. Big words to brag about their new A-class. Its not new in the car industry, Audi were promoting their cars as been the sportiest brand in the premium segment in their last generation A4, when most people know they are not the sportiest. I would say that BMW and Audi are been more gimmicky than Mercedes nowadays, just compare the interiors and you understand what I mean.

I will wait to see if it has a better presence in Geneva.
It works for the CLS. Whereas in pictures it looks more blunt.

Threads like this lose credibility for me because there is too much hyperbole, in both directions. If people were just more realistic in their praise or criticism of things the world would be a better place!

Purely judging from those pictures, I honestly think this new design language fits the A-Class much better than the CLS, but will be reserving my last judgment till I see it in flesh, as always

One thing is clear. The A-Class and the CLS are two completely different cars. Yet the carry EXACTLY the same front end. To me the two possible outcomes explaining this are negative to MB as a brand. Either one of the cars has a wrong front end, or the front end itself is so generic it can fit whatever the type of car.

At least the GLE and GT4 are using their own front ends. But it seems the entire FWD portfolio and the CLS will all have the same face.

Not cool.

The new A and new CLS fronts seem to differ a little? The CLS Coupe appears to be a tiny bit sleeker? :)

This copy - paste design will soon hit a dead end. I mean - as a true fan, not a fanboy - everyone should get disturbed by this exercise. Every model should have its own identity. Maybe some will get fooled, but in the long run, this tactique won't any longer pay off. See for yourselves.

Waegber explains why they are similair in the Autogenful video. He is directly asked the question.

Car companies about sales and this strategy isn't hurting Mercedes' sales one bit. In fact people actually like, those people being buyers, not mesg board participants. In real life very few buyers care. Enthusiast have long been out of favor with MB, BMW, Porsche and Audi. Sure they all build some models for the enthusiasts, many in fact, but the everyday buyer is where the money is and the sales are. If these companies listened to only us they'd be out of business. That said, BMW and Audi say they're going back to making each car different if I'm not mistaken, not sure what MB has said on this. Overall when it affects sales, it will change, seemingly overnight.

I said it before but its time to say it again.
W203, W211, W220 - was a golden era of car design for Mercedes. Like e90, e60, e65 - was a golden era for BMW.

Every car had it's own design. Every car had it's own steering wheel. BMWs had 2 steering wheels for each model!!! Own buttons, own climate control, own interior details.

Now we see ugly exterior design and only one steering wheel for the full range of cars from 20 000$ to 250 000$.

If you look closely the A-class front is not identical to the CLS. There are small differences in the shapes of their front lights where they join the front bumper and fender, the CLS ends in a point whereas A-class ends in a cut line angle. The CLS has flatter lower bonnet where it joins the light and fender.

There are some slight differences between the two for sure but unfortunately it is still far too similar and as @MercFan said, the previous generations truly excelled in the discipline of styling individuality, being an MB fan it's a shame that this russian doll approach is thriving..

I'm quite surprised that the major issue people seem to have is the similarity with the CLS. What is much worse to me is the incomplete and generic rear. Licence plate cut out and rear lights are neither harmonious nor is there a relation to Mercedes heritage. A vehicle by any other notable brand would be slammed, I'm convinced.
