A-Class (W177) [Official] Mercedes-Benz A-Class (W177)


The W177 hatchback was launched in 2018 as the successor to the W176 Mercedes-Benz A-Class. It is available as a 5-door hatchback (W177 model code), 4-door sedan (V177), and a long-wheelbase sedan exclusive to China (Z177).
Don't get carried away- there will be plenty of hard plastic in the interior. Hopefully it will be a better balance than with the current generation. Also that switchgear is metallized plastic.

The glossy air vent surround and the entire transmission tunnel look suspect. It’s a hatchback after all so compromises are to be expected somewhere.
 
An interesting "A-segment/"Golf Klasse" entry by M-B. Little not to like...Little to get overly excited about, I reckon. I'm sure that it will succeed in getting a good number of younger people into M-B showrooms.
 
Mercedes-Benz may have well upped the game in the premium compact segment, but I cannot be but negatively impressed at how much they try to stuck the new A-Class down the throat of the audience as if it were "the benchmark in the segment" as they call it in their official press release. And, for God's sake - this A-Class is like you say "Baby, I shrank the CLS". You would never see such a design ordeal from BMW - like a 1 Series that screams 6er Gran Coupe. Come on...

When the A-Class was still an MPV, others were already doing the game since a long a time, namely the 1 Series and the A3. It may have developed brilliantly, but words and enthusiasm are too big right now for a car that is yet to prove its abilities outside, in the real world, and not only in the papers and words of Daimler officials.

If the A-Class is that of a benchmark, we shall see. No one in the premium market rests peacefully. I am pretty sure that Munich guys will come up with something major on the 1er side.

I agree with this. Consumers bear the ultimate responsibility in terms of telling what a company is okay and what is not okay. People still buy the E-Class despite it looking like a C-Class; people buy a 7-series despite it looking similar to a 5-series. Consumers are telling MB/BMW/Audi that they don't care if a $100k+ car looks like a $30k car so they're gonna keep on doing it. Imagine if sales of the E completely dropped off because it looked like the C...it would really send a message to Mb that what they're doing is not ok.

But, as you pointed out, the E is not identical to the C, and the 7 is not identical to the 5-Series even if they do look similar. This looks like a 100% copy-paste job. Maybe I'm missing something but this looks like a carbon copy. They even put the S' steering wheel in a god damn A-Class. Can't believe it.
 
Great looking exterior, comes from the 100k CLS ;)

I have a feeling that interior isn't that good overall (basic spec will be awful) but most people won't notice the discrepancy between the pieces from upper classes and the very cheap plastic.

MB tries too hard to make it pop with the contrast stitching "trick" which does more bad than good on some specs.

And yeah, I wouldn't like seeing a 30k car has EXACTLY the same front as my 100k car.
 
I think Mercedes have done their homework and done what they can to improve on the weaknesses of the previous A-class to come up with a more complete package that will be a far more better competitor to the leaders of this very crowded class.

I like the cars styling overall they have made the new car more sporty and striking and promoting their new styling direction with elements of the CLS. It certainly has the most interesting looks of any car in this class, at least it's not bland or conservative and more youthful than most rivals.

The interior is probably the biggest departure and a big improvement over the previous model. It's perceived quality seems very high and I like the way that Mercedes have combined different coloured seat and door material together with trim strips to make the interior very colourful and smart looking and with a distinctive up market ambience. The new infotainment system seems like a massive change compared to the current one in the S and E class and much more intuitive.

This Matt grey car with standard silver 5 star rims looks very smart and stylish I think it will be look even more attractive with sheen paintwork.

Renault is using the Getrag DCT (as is BMW with its UKL based cars), which is very light (as far as I remember the same 67 kg)and also cheap. Is MB also using this transmission (the transaxle DCT in AMG GT and SLS is also from Getrag)?
 
This is winner inside out imo and i love the way MB is going with their interiours,unique and fresh.
 
In pictures, the current A class looks better than this new model particularly the rear end design which is very ordinary looking IMO. The front is unexciting because nothing is new or creative here. The current A class is an attractive car IRL. I am hoping that this new car would look better on road. I am not a fan of these copy paste design approach from MB of the current era.

Lovely little car. Interior is beyond the class of cat.. hell looks better than the 3 series interior even
 
Was considering an A3 for next car but this could become a consideration if the interior quality is as good as it looks. The exterior looks great and balanced for a FWD car. Well done MB. A big improvement on the last car which has not aged well IMO. Slightly concerned that lower spec models will make the design fall short. Looking forward to the test drives/reviews.
 
Yet another new car which I feel is uglier than the one it replaces :(
