A-Class (W176) [Official] Mercedes-Benz A-Class (W176)

The W176 model was introduced at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show officially as a subcompact executive / C-segment model for the first time after being a supermini / B-segment for fifteen years.
Well done Mate, I got my Vin the Day after the Production Date, took another 6 days before anything shew up on the Tracker tho.

All this waiting is doing my head in :banghead:

I'm guessing it's going to do my head in as well. Never had to wait so long for ANYTHING in my life!

Time to come up on the tracker all depends on when the vehicle is entered into the cargo manifest of the ship. When my Dealer gave me my VIN he said it wasn't yet on a ship and my delivery date was estimated as late August. I did a quick check and sure enough it was actually on a ship. Turns out in my case it was build on 20th June and loaded and departed same day on the ship.

Based on the estimate from the Dealer it looks like they were expecting it to go on a later ship and would have spend several days waiting for a ride.

It's all a matter of luck as to how soon after your car is manufactured that it actually gets on a ship. Once you have a VIN enter it in the Cargo ID field a couple of times a day. Sooner or later you'll get a response. Then the real agonising wait starts as you watch it progress. At least you can see progress (until it falls off the radar ) but you will have a schedule and have a pretty good idea where it is

just an update on things thrown in. my dealer says that apparently its upto the dealership to configure 'gift packs' as a general gift and that dealers can't actually pick out item individually.

oh and also my car could now be in early next week instead... bummer :( lol...

at this point I've spent waaaaaay more on a car than I ever thought I would. So lets see how things go, maybe a 2nd hand C-class in 10 years time..

Sorry for the previous post - Chrome did something funny when I tried to reply! Now I can't edit it any more!

Anyway what I wanted to say:
It will be my first Merc having had an A4 & A3 previously. I was initially going for the A200 until I realised what a good deal the A250 is. I'll give it 3 years to decide if I want to keep it or go for something else. My biggest reason for changing would be the cost of maintenance as the car gets older. I'll most likely stick with MB for the next car, but I'm not sure I'll be going bigger. Although I may be interested in the CLA.

Current owners....

Need/want your impressions on the Comand system. I.E. The sound system, navigation, little bits n pieces we might not know about... Any thoughts would be awesome (to keep me going).

Cheers guys!

Guys who have your cars, how would you describe the ride quality of the A250? Some reviews had suggested the A's on run flats were harsh, so I was wondering how you find the A250 with the AMG tuned sports suspension but non ran flats on a daily basis.

From my brief play around in the new E, the MY 2014 Internet update appears to be absolutely useless as it is painfully slow. That said the ability to say full city and street names to the navigation system was outstanding. It really renders the touchpad in the Audi A3 redundant in terms of entering data into the navigation. Curiously you still have to spell everything letter by letter in the Audis.

When you get the car, don't be tempted to listen to the HK Sounds of New York demo disc. I thought my speakers were blown it sounded so bad, especially the vocals. Was about to car back to dealer, but after inserting my own cd, realised it was all ok.

Apart from that, the audio side is very basic, it doesn't even display volume level. Only adjustment is treble, bass, fader, balance and Logic SP ON/OFF. But it does sound good and its getting better as the speakers are running in. Crank up the volume and its really quite impressive.

One thing I did notice the other day, when you adjust the climate control, up jumps a small display along the bottom of the screen. You have to be quick though, it doesn't last very long, and can't find any way to change that timing. In fact there is no customisation of the GUI at all that I can find regardless of what function you are viewing (nav, phone, audio etc).

Agree with MrM re linguatronics with nav (and phone and audio too). It works so well, no need to key anything.

Definitely not harsh, it is firm and yes I can feel bad roads and can get bumped around on them, but I don't feel the sus working under me, and that's just it - it's working, firm and controlled, but definitely not harsh. To be honest, I was expecting it to be a little harsh considering the ride height and short travel sus, so very happy it's not. Its perfectly livable as a daily drive IMHO.

I've taken the A250 for a couple of drives and even A200 with sports kit, I found neither too harsh. I did expect really harsh after reading reviews, that said when I had originally ordered A200CDI I did opt for lowered comfort suspension as I believe it would handle better than my current car already by a long way.
But I guess when I have it my opinion may change but in my mind it is a sports car so my expectations are that it's suspension will be on the firm side anyway.

May I ask how you're finding the climate control in terms of keeping proper temp? In my current Golf it has a real issue when the sun shines in on a 3C degree day, it thinks its much hotter than it is!

You should be right. I've never come across a poor climate control system in a Mercedes. Lexus on the other hand thinks we live in the Sahara and freezes your balls off if you set the climate control to anything below 25 degrees.

Just in case anyone is interested I just got a quote from Tint Professor via Facebook to tint the front windows as close as they can to those of the rear privacy glass. I was quoted $120 (incl. GST) - pleasantly surprised. I said I wanted non-metallic film and don't need additional UV.

Hi Frostee, is there a reason that you dont require UV protection or Metalic Film ? I certainly noticed the difference when I had my sunroof replaced on my "6".Prior to the replacement, I had metalic film/UV and it cut out a large % of Heat, after I just made do with the Tinted Glass that the roof was made of, just wondered if you have had a bad experience in the past?

As I understand it the glass on the vehicle is already UV treated. If I should be getting something else I am more than happy to take advice.

Thats cool, if your info is correct, we only need to get the fronts tinted as you have said, I just wouldn't of thought the fronts, being clear, would have UV protection.
