A-Class (W176) [Official] Mercedes-Benz A-Class (W176)

The W176 model was introduced at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show officially as a subcompact executive / C-segment model for the first time after being a supermini / B-segment for fifteen years.
Where are you guys taking your cars for window tinting? I always get a bit nervous when i've had windows tinted in the past, worried they will break trim clips or damage the door trim when they take it off and put it back on.

I take it Pandora is pretty much like Spotify/MOG/Rdio etc.. in the way it just streams music to your phone? if so the bluetooth audio will work just fine. Just won't be able to control the playback via steering wheel.
Thank you. Yep same as spotify mbut IMO better logic to determine music preference. Sorry I wasn't really clear - was looking for the integration with hand controls. The Bluetooth option is ok but not happy with it. Too tempting to touch the phone.

7 years ago I had an integrated iPod solution in my Cooper S Cabrio (Denison). It was aftermarket, cost a few hundred $ and worked a treat. I am really pissed off we don't get to use the full integration capability that the system has. It's hardly a tech hurdle and I suspect AUstrlain Design Rules related based upon earlier discussion. Doesn't make sense when you see what Holden's are offering in Barina's and the like - guess it will be just a Matt of time for the hurdles to get lifted.

Tint professor or Tint-a- Car. Used both before with no problems. Check them out before hand, see what they're working on, even get references.

Alternately get the Dealer to do it and pay more than twice the price for them to use more than likely the same installers.

Aa with any work such as this just make sure you understand what the installer liability is in the contract you enter into.

Sounds about right assuming your car gets on a ship immediately after being built.

Mine was built 19 June, shipped 20 June and ETA Melbourne 2nd Aug. sailing time for mine is about 6 weeks.

You need to allow up to a couple of weeks after that to get it off the wharf and be delivered to Dealers and in turn to you. If your Dealer is saying car in your hands in that time frame then I seriously doubt it.

The only way to know is when your car is built and you have a VIN. With that you can track the ship it is on to your city, and from there work with the Dealer to advise you of clearance off the wharf and delivery to them with prep and then delivery to you.

Give your Dealer a call next week and see if it was built. If yes, get the VIN and then track it. From there you'll have a better idea as to when you'll have it.

Hope this is helpful

Thanks for the advice Frostee. I think I'll lower expectations to the end of August.

Each to their own but I actually find this end of the discussion helpful.

... It may be surprising to know that some of the smallest items like chrome trims, valve caps, etc can all add up to create a very individual and desirable vehicle.

I agree. I would never even have thought to get some of the items mentioned in this thread. Now I'm definitely investigating some of the items to round off my 250.

Guys, I have a question...

My order feels a bit too good to be true... My build date is 2nd of July and arrival 16th of August. Based on everyone else's wait time from construction to delivery, my ETA sounds wayyyyy to quick.

Do you think my dealer is over-promising? Or does that sound accurate? (I'm in Melbourne).

Just seems like it's much quicker than what most others on here are getting.

Cheers!

Hi Duds,

Honestly, i would check with your dealer but i agree with frostee, it seems like a really quick delivery.. too quick.

Both Frostee and I had our cards made on the 19th June (ish). Looks like Frostee got his car in the earlier ship which left port on the 21st whilst i was on the latter, leaving port on the 27th. In both cases, it it will take 6 weeks travel alone to get to sydney. Add another 1 or 2 to get to the dealer and for them to polish it up ready for you, you are looking at 7 - 8 weeks from the day your car leaves port.

Now assuming your car gets shipped on the day it is built, then it will probably arrive in sydney on the 16th, but that assuming your car gets off the production line, straight into the ship and it set sails. On top of that, you will still need to wait for it to be delivered to your dealer.

Im not saying its not possible, but it seems unlikely. My car is in transit now and i expect to get it on the 19th of Aug. Your build date is 2 weeks after mine but your dealer is promising it 3 days earlier, so unless the shipping route is different and more direct, im not sure how realistic he is being.

As per Frostee suggestion, first step, get the VIN number and start tracking it yourself. You will get a good idea when your delivery is then.

good luck!

Jimmy

But I guess I need to also consider I'm in Melbourne and the ship comes here before Sydney.

Hi Oz, I got window tinting included in the deal with the car upon purchasing. I told them I would like it to go as dark as is legal. If the dealer stuffs anything up then I'm sure they will fix it as I won't accept a car that is not up to scratch.

Having said this, what I can do without is the prolonged discussions about what tacky ebay items will be purchased. I can understand your excitement and anticipation awaiting your new car, but come on guys, like me, many of you are purchasing your first luxury car.....and your talking about nickel and dime ebay items........

This is also for me my first luxury car purchase COLMAXIM, and have to admit of all the cars I will have owned it is the one I am the most excited about. My local Mercedes Benz dealership doesn't carry the items I would like in stock and as mentioned by Frostee they can supply some of them but at a significantly higher price, but to see them I need to order them. While there may be some people who would buy the Mercedes Benz original parts, there are also others who will be happy to get something of equal or similar quality for a significantly lower price. I personally have purchased a few things on eBay that I have seen others on the UK A Class forums have purchased and been happy with.

But I can understand as you say that this is a luxury car, and as such there may be some who will look down on those who buy from ebay or parts that are not directly from Mercedes. I'm fine with that, I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion. There are some who purchase solely for the name of the car, whereas I've ordered an A Class not because it is a Mercedes Benz (although some people where I work seem to think that this is the reason). But rather I've ordered an A Class because when I was looking at cars it was the only one that when I sat inside I felt that this is what I would like to drive. Yes I was lucky enough to be able to spend over $60k on a car. I almost went for an A45, but held back because of a few things. 1. Do I really need to go that fast (I'd probably end up losing my license or get my car confiscated) 2. I would be spending that extra $20K mainly for vanity nothing else (the ability to outrun most cars on the road to 100km/h) 3. $20k can buy another car. 4. I can do a lot better things with that $20k.

What we each buy for our car is a personal thing (people like to customise it for themselves) and I can understand that some may have no limits on what they can spend, this is not the case for me. I like to buy quality products in preference to poor quality products, I can go over many purchases that I have bought a high quality product and as such have had excellent use out of it, and certainly a few times I've bought things based on price and lived to regret it. But if two products are similar in quality and I am able to check the quality then I would be tempted to go for the lower priced item if there is a significant price difference, otherwise I would just buy the one that takes my eye.

I don't know for certain but I think many of us on this forum are happy to see what others have bought (things we may not have thought about) and see what their opinion is and find out where they bought it so that we may decide for ourselves whether we would like to get that item for our own car. I have found this with products to clean and protect the paint job on my A Class when it arrives. I would never have thought about buying these products and doing my own car care. But because of the discussions I will, I'm quite excited about doing this. Will I go to supercheap and buy similar products from there? There may be some on this forum who will, but I don't see any reason to look down on them for that.

I would be grateful if you could share some things that you have purchased or may purchase and where you are getting them as they may be things that I or others would also like to buy but haven't found yet or you may have found a place that stocks an item that is of better quality/value than those that we may have found. Either way in a forum like this it gives us the opportunity to share and decide for ourselves what we would like to purchase for our cars.

Spot on OZ A250 let's here more reviews about how these vehicles perform, I enjoy reading these reports from new owners and how they rate their vehicles and in many ways these user reports are far better than the often biased press reports. Essentially, this is what has attracted me to this forum.

In addition to the many good A250 review, I have an A200 CDI on order (that's not included in the list) and I would like to hear reports from non-A250 owners on what they think or their cars. Does it meet their expectations and are they happy with it.
I agree 100% COLMAXIM I have read just about everything I can find on these cars, but the owner reviews are few and far between. But I do love to hear what others feel about their vehicles, the good and the bad.

I had originally ordered an A200 CDI but changed because of the delays with the External and Internal Sports Packages. My dealer had two that were both fully optioned mine and another customers. I changed my order to an A250, he kept his as it is but up to yesterday they still don't have a build slot allotted for him the unlucky dude. Although the dealer did say they expect he will be driving it before the end of the year. I hope that yours isn't delayed also. What options did you go with? Do you have a build slot and ETA for the car?

Hi Will,

I too couldn't decide about the red or black seatbelts - when I first placed my MY14 order I requested black seatbelts. When I confirmed the order with one of the salespeople I asked 'what if I wanted to change back to red seatbelts' - and was told this would delay my car by 1-2 months. However not long after I spoke to the head of sales at my dealer who told me that it literally just involved them changing the order in the computer and that there would be no delay - so I switched back to red:)

I was told build date of ~26/6/13 - might start harrassing the dealer for a VIN next week so I can track my car along with the other expectant owners here ;)

Another A250 review, searching for more reviews to make this wait go faster.

Great news: I must have a psychic connection with my car! I got a printout from the dealer today: the car was built yesterday (27th)! Just when I got twitchy the car was actually about to be built.

Expected delivery date is 28 August. I also have the VIN so now I can track it - I'll check it tonight. Another thing I noticed on the printout is that I ordered way back on 7 March - I've forgotten how long it was!

I'm so happy now.:D

That's awesome news Will!

Do you mind if I ask where you're located? (will give me an insight on how long I will be waiting for mine)

Cheers!

That's wonderful news, congratulations!

Looks like we're developing an ever growing convoy of vehicles on the water making their way here!

Mine was cruising off Portugal when I looked this afternoon :)
