A-Class (W176) [Official] Mercedes-Benz A-Class (W176)

The W176 model was introduced at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show officially as a subcompact executive / C-segment model for the first time after being a supermini / B-segment for fifteen years.
Thanks Oz...I only hope NLC survive, doesn't look good for them, just sacked 74 Staff due to the ridiculous FBT Changes...
Wonder if these FBT changes will end up the way the government says. It is a little like a seesaw you alter one side and it might affect the other side but there will be many run on effects ie NLC and how many other companies are going to drop staff because a big portion of there business is involved, the car dealers sales and service, then in turn importers or manufacturers. So the FBT they save they may lose in income taxes and other taxes that they would normally get as part of these sales. I know they are saying if you can justify you will still get it but there is quite a large portion of people who can't justify it because their mostly using it for private use.

Its a bit scary, especially when this is only suppose to be an announcement from the govt. It hasnt passed yet, and maybe wont be. An all staff announcement was made at my place of employment today, saying that they are going to cease novated leases due to the changes in FBT. That got me panicking, so I was straight on the phone to HR to make sure I wasnt going to be affected. Luckily for me, im not affected, phew! I'm still waiting patiently for a build date. I was told delivery should be around November / Decemeber - a nice Xmas present this year :)

Anybody read anything if the fuctionality issue with COMAND and iPhone, Android has been improved with the MY 14 update?

I know it was meant to be fixed but you never know....

Guys in Europe should have taken delivery of updated A's by now i would have thought.

I haven't read anything yet but have posted the question on this forum which has a predominately UK/Euro following. Let's see what comments we get, otherwise I will be sure to let you all know mid August when I should have my car.

I think I may have found something here that will be helpful in regard to phone connectivity. It covers June 2013 vehicles so is up to date. I haven't read in detail but looks like you need to tether the phone - this may just be BT tethering unless it uses wifi hotspot tethering with the phone. I need to read further. SMS does appear to be available on iPhone. I haven't looked more than a few mins at this but thought I'd put it out for you all to take a look and get some conversation happening.

Thanks Frostee, I'm sure it is informative but near impossible to use on my iPhone will check it out though.

Well that makes me feel better - I'm 50 and I had the same problem. On the iPad or PC it was fine for me. If I asked my 17 year old daughter though, she would say it's fine. Mind you it's purely academic as she would never read a manual!

That's it!!! I've had it!!! Im moving the electronic handbrake from under the dash to somewhere (center console) more sensible. I'm sick and tired of having to fumble around under the dash trying to find it!!! And its the one thing you have to use at least once every time you drive the car. And unlike other more sensible systems on other more sensible cars, you can't even set it to engage automatically! Good grief! Its like trying to find the bonnet release lever! STUPID STUPID position. Why they even bother illuminating the lever is beyond me - you'd need to be laying on your back on the road outside the car with the door open to actually see it! After 2months, I still pull it to engage it, which doesn't work -you have to push it - the opposite to other systems, and then that's only after I've found the bloody thing! Whoever made the decision to put it where it is needs to be asked THE QUESTION! Forget problems with bloody iphones, just put the bloody handbrake where you can find it and make it work like every other one works! Is that too much to ask?
(obviously there were issues with it today when someone else drove it - and I do agree 100%, it's the one single thing that it is the most frustrating of the whole A series experience)

Lol Clip
It was a while ago I did my test drive but don't you put you foot on the break pedal to stop, then apply a bit more pressure to the brake pedal to engage in Parking/Hand Brake ?
To release, I thought you just drive off and it comes off automatically? Or am I missing or forgot something ?

I remember asking the salesman about its strange location during my test but i thought he said it was out of the way because it was kind off semi automatic so it didn't need to be touched all the time like you do with a regular handbrake ?

I think what you did was engaged the hill hold/traffic hold function. It should automatically disengage when you press the accelerator.

#Clip I'm definitely feeling what you're saying I certainly found I had to look for it when pulling up

MB definitely didn't want anyone to experience to joy of handbrake turns in their A Class :-)

Thanks for the manual page Frostee looks like you can get it to engage itself automatically. I wonder how many of the MB Salesmen explained this to us. I for one got shown the manual method only, but will be doing the auto way when my car arrives. Will just have to make sure it engages don't want my car rolling.

Don't be too sure about that! :D

Emergency braking
The vehicle can also be braked during an emergency using the electric parking brake.

But by previous quotes you might struggle to find it at the opportune moment :-) lol

I can't recall from memory whether I had difficulty locating where the brake lever is, but according to this image from the online manual it should be easy enough to find - under the light switch. Seems easy enough to me but I've read the manual ;) (Disclaimer: I used to be a aircraft pilot and we pilots tend to read manuals - I love 'em!)
