AMG ONE [Official] Mercedes-AMG Project ONE

The Mercedes-AMG One (R50, previously known as Project One) is a limited-production plug-in dual hybrid sports car manufactured by Mercedes-AMG, featuring Formula One-derived technology. Production: August 2022 – 2025 (275 units planned).
Details and fair assessment. The LFA and hybrid NSX spring to mind. Their development was so drawn out that when the cars launched their performance was average and nowhere near the top end of their segments.

Then we have the E60 M5 with an SMG and V10. Sexy F1 tech but it's rarely mentioned in the context of the greatest cars to drive.......or live with. The engine drivetrain was extremely short lived.

If the Senna is considered a car with high NHV, the I expect the AMG One to edge towards unbearable if the primary objective is to set laptime records. The lack of performance stats is to be expected if Mercedes are still optiming the car for performance against reliability and repeatability.

However $2-3m is not bad value for a car that comes with "money can't buy perks" perks and is limited to less than 300 cars.

I am sick and tired of seeing the car in silver but love the way it looks in burgundy. Looking forward to driving it in Forza Horizon 5.

The difference, of course, between this car and the LFA/NSX is that these units are all already sold. Regardless, absolute shame that development has been so beleaguered.

That leaves us with the lap time. I already commented that I expect the N-time to be around 6:20-6:40 (for a full lap).
Really, just that? I thought their goal was sub 6:11 -

AMG boss Tobias Moers told Autocar that "it's reasonable to speculate" the brand's new hypercar would aim to beat the all-time 'Ring lap record.

That record in question was 6 minutes and 11.13 seconds set in 1983 by a Porsche 956 race car with Stefan Bellof behind the wheel.

That was before 919 Evo record run. After, he said they could do sub. 6:00. And even beat 5:11 with right tires some minor changes -
After Porsche managed a fantastic 5:11-minute lap time with its modified 919 race car, Mercedes-AMG's former CEO said that the One could easily beat it with the right tires and some minimal weight shed from the production model.

In full production spec, with no modifications, a lap time of under 6:00 minutes is entirely feasible.

I know he is not with AMG anymore, but 6:20-6:40 would be a huge disappointment after all that build up. A 6:40 is probably not going to be that much faster than the coming 992 GT3 RS. Let alone a future 992 GT2 RS.

I don't think that ever was their goal. What you read are mostly mis-translations of deliberately open ended statements by eager for headline media. When he was talking about the aim to beat the record, he was referring to the Aventador SVJ time, but then also mentioned that they were "studying" the Stefan Bellof 6:11 time - and some took that to mean that they aim to beat that as well. I don't remember what the context for the second statement was, but it was something similar.

Either way, I am pretty confident in my range of times. 6:25 is about what current GT3 cars do - on slicks - and those also have probably 2x the downforce, if not 3x. You might say, but what about 1000hp+? Well, that helps but not nearly as much as cornering speeds and either way the One doesn't have battery big enough to last the whole lap at full power, so actually it won't really have 1000hp+. 6:20 is really quite optimistic, I would guess the time to be closer to 6:40 if anything. The AMG GT BS is 6:48, so I think it should be at least 10s faster, but not sure about much more after that. There is no guarantee that it's gonna corner faster that the AMG GT BS (or the 992 GT3 for that matter - those two are very close cornering speed wise). If the stated downforce of 675kg is at top speed, then that's 344kg at 250km/h, less than the 400kg of the AMG GT BS and on a car that might not weigh much less. It's actually fairly likely it's gonna go around corners slower than the next GT3RS - again, the consequence of delaying the car so much - so if the new GT3RS turned out to be faster, I wouldn't be that surprised, to be honest. I certainly don't see some magical way that would allow the AMG One to dip below 6:11 or even 6:00. Don't forget, the ID.R did 6:05 and that thing is more like an LMP1 car (with gutted top speed) that eats hillclimbing prototypes with thousands of hp and kg of downforce for breakfast.

I think that in some of my past comments I put the exact time at 6:25 (all the times I am mentioning are for the full, 20832m lap, not for the "Sport Auto" 20600m cofiguration), but after further rumination I would put it at 6:35 (so around 6:31 for the Sport Auto config). If anyone wants to join on the fun (since Mercedes are actually likely to do a record lap at some point), leave your guess below! ;)

Ok, my guess is full lap factory time of 6:29. that would be aprox 6:25 for SA-conf. And if we are so lucky that SA will do a supertest of it I guess they will do 6:45.

6:45? Only 7 seconds faster than what they did with GT Black Series? It should be much faster.

Hard to believe they would allow it come out with only 877hp, especially if it also weighs 1700kg. I did mention that I wouldn't be surprised if the specs came out a bit diluted compared to the original, especially the weight, but not like this. This would make it heavier and slower in the straight line than the 8 year old 918, not to mention the SF90. After all the hype it would be one of the biggest fails in the automotive industry in recent years.

But, I wouldn't put much weight behind video game stats. It could be anything from the data simply being displayed wrong, to only including one axle, or taking the average power over a long course where the battery gets depleted at a certain point, or MB sandbagging for some weird reason.

Sexy looking in this pic..
