GT [Official] Mercedes-AMG GT

The Mercedes-AMG GT is a series of 2-door sports cars produced by Mercedes-AMG. While not directly replacing the SLS AMG (competing in a different segment), it is the second sports car developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG.
No full specs shown yet but engine specs and performance so far shown.

Power: 430kw (585PS)
Torque: 700nm
0-100km/h: 3.6sec
Top Speed: 318km/h

Considering some european mags timed the standard GTs (340kw) 0-100 km/h in 3,7 secs the official time of the GTR must be really very conservative considering lower weight and probably wider rear tires.

Mercedes recalls GT S in U.S. for driveshaft failure
There are at least three cases worldwide of the part failing.
Mercedes-Benz will recall 136 examples of the 2016 AMG GT S in the United States because the adhesive joining the carbon fiber driveshaft and the engine/transmission flange can potentially fail. The issue affects units of the sports coupe with build dates from June 1, 2015, to July 24, 2015.

According to Mercedes' explanation to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there might not have been sufficient cleaning of the bonding surfaces for the flange and driveshaft prior to adding the adhesive. "In such a case the carbon-fiber driveshaft might separate from the flange and spin. This could result in loss of traction between the engine and transmission and thus lead to loss of motive power," the report notes.

Mercedes first heard about this problem in October 2015 when an owner in the U.S. reported it. The company believed this incident was a one-off case, but then complaints came from Saudi Arabia and Japan. "Customers noted transmission malfunctions in connection with scratching noises and warning signals in the instrument cluster," the automaker said in NHTSA's documents.

Mercedes will begin notifying owners about the recall in June. On July 1, dealers will begin inspecting the driveshafts, and they'll replace the components as necessary.

Mercedes-AMG Boss confirms GT Roadster for 2017

While initial reports indicated towards a 2018 introduction of the Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster, it seems that the manufacturer will offer it for sale starting next year.
AutoExpress, speaking about the soft-top version at the launch of the GT R where he said that it could show up by the end of this year.

Mercedes-AMG chairman, Tobias Moers, confimed the news to AutoExpress, speaking about the soft-top version at the launch of the GT R where he said that it could show up by the end of this year.

"The convertible has moved well beyond the drawing board. It will be the next AMG GT model to arrive", Moers said, who isn’t concerned that a drop-top variant of the AMG GT would cannibalize the SL, as he sees it as a grand tourer, while "this will absolutely be a proper sports car".

Modifying the AMG GT in order to cope with the chopped roof won't dramatically affect the handling, as this will still be "a sharp driver's car", and the suspension won't require any major changes over the hardtop version either. Word on the street has it that keeping its weight down means using a cloth roof instead of a folding metal hardtop and the sports car will probably follow the same path as the Coupe, as it is believed to go on sale as a GT and a GT S.

Mercedes-AMG will not end the development of its GT family once the GT Roadster will show its face, as an even more powerful range-topper, which will probably wear the Black Series moniker, is expected to be introduced in 2018, while the lineup might be closed by a possible GT4 customer racing car, which will slot below the GT3.

The roadster is going to be seriously hot. Hopefully they will do a GT R Roadster too and a Black Series Roadster at the very end of the production run.

2017 Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster makes spy photo debut

Tobias Moers, the big kahuna at Mercedes-AMG, has long said that the Mercedes-AMG GT will be a coupe-only story.

Its predecessor, the SLS AMG, was, of course, available as both as a coupe and a roadster, and being based on the same platform, it wouldn't have been unexpected for a Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster to make an appearance, right?

Well, prepare not to be surprised, then, because a roadster version of the Mercedes-AMG has just started testing, and the first pre-production prototype was already spied on a German Autobahn doing some high-speed runs.

Just like its older and more expensive brother, the GT Roadster will feature a soft-top while also completely transforming the way that its side profile looks.

Not entirely evident from the spy photo above, but the rear overhang will seem a bit longer thanks to the fact that the luggage compartment will cease to feature a hatch, but a regular trunk opening.

Engine wise, we should expect the same GT and GT S flavors as the coupe in the beginning, with the based model to offer 462 PS and 600 Nm (442,5 lb-ft) of torque, while the GT S will output 510 PS and 600 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque.

Because the increase in weight will be of only about 30 Kg (66 pounds), naught to 100 km/h (62 mph) times should be identical to the coupe, namely 3.8 seconds for the GT S and 4.0 seconds for the standard GT.

A couple of months ago, Tobias Moers let it slip that the upgraded 4.0-liter V8 in the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT R might be borrowed to other models as well, which makes think that the GT R could also be getting a Roadster version, but nothing is confirmed.

Expect the Mercedes-AMG GT and GT S Roadster to debut at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show at the earliest and the 2017 Geneva Motor Show at the latest.

The latest GTC insight comes from MB of Scottsdale. :)

The Mercedes-AMG GT Undergoes ANOTHER Transformation!

2018 Mercedes-AMG GTC Release Date

Ever since Mercedes-Benz reorganized its structure of vehicle names, it has been shooting out new cars faster than you can say Aufrecht Melcher Grossaspach. Not only did the GLK-Class and the M-Class become GLC and GLE, but the SL-Class and S-Class got refreshed bodies, the E-Class got a new brain, and a new style of SUV, the SUV Coupe, was introduced and brought to dealership floors. Still, the company is not done. The 2018 Mercedes-AMG GTC release date will shock the world as it combines the legendary GT with other, more affordable cars.

Read More: Now Imagine the GT is a Motorcycle
First of all, when we say more affordable, we mean they will still cost six figures, but this won’t stop eager buyers. The Mercedes-AMG GTC will be available as a roadster or a coupe, appealing to just about every kind of performance driver.

Roadster
To be thought of as a cross between the GT S and the SLC, the GTC Roadster will be packed with a dry sump 4.0L V8 with hot-inside-V turbos and more than 500 horsepower. Imagine the GT S without a roof.

Coupe
The coupe is a new concept that is gaining popularity thanks to the GLE Coupe and the GLC Coupe, which were introduced by Mercedes-Benz less than a year ago. Again, you can expect a GT engine.

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GTC will not likely be released until next summer, but it will be unveiled this summer for us to drool over, so get ready to see a lot of yellow on the Mercedes-Benz website. If you have any questions or answers about the GTC Coupe, leave a comment below! Mercedes-Benz is being a little too quiet about the release of the GTC, which is surprising because they already released the trailer that you see above. One thing is for certain. We’ll wait patiently.

Do they even sell any non-GT-S GT:s?

In the US, the base GT goes on sale this fall. :)

AMG GT, GT4: The new 577-hp Mercedes-AMG GT R will arrive at U.S. dealerships by the middle of 2017. It joins the GT S, which arrived in 2015, and the base GT, which goes on sale in the U.S. this fall. A GT convertible also is in development. It will debut at the Paris auto show and go on sale in the second half of next year.

Mercedes is mulling a four-door, four-seat entry to the AMG GT family. Dubbed the GT4, the vehicle would be positioned to challenge the Porsche Panamera, Audi RS 7 and BMW M6 Gran Coupe. It would be based on a different platform, using the MRA architecture that will support the redesigned CLS and E class. Output from the likely 4.0-liter V-8 is expected to range from 500 to 600 hp. It could arrive in the first half of 2018. Source: Automotive News

I don't get it, if they do a GT4, what is the next generation CLS or now CLE since the CLS badge is seemingly being retired?

I'm all for a purpose built GT4 sedan built on it's own platform, apart from the E-Class chassis. That would be really hot. A 4-door AMG GT would be really hot and kill the compeititon from Audi and BMW and truly take it to the Panamera.

The next gen CLS will then probably grow a bit.

To calrify, I was thinking of the EU market when asking about base AMG GT:s. I very, very seldom see one of them for sale - almost all of the cars up for sale are GT-s models.
