I don't think 928's design was ever polarizing. This car is like the Porsche 928 when it was launched, very polarizing design that is initially not attractive or gorgeous but the more you see it and experience all the design elements from different angles it starts growing on you and there is a chance you may like it more or totally dislike it.
I don't think 928's design was ever polarizing.
When the 928 was presented at the 1977 Geneva Motor Show, its' reception was certainly mixed. Especially so-called Porsche "purists" were highly critical and not at all prepared to accept the 928 as the 911s' successor (which it was initially intended to be).
But in retrospect, it became universally recognized as a brilliant automobile far ahead of its' time. Personally, I have grown to love the 928. And to my eyes, it remains to look remarkably fresh.

Kind of same story for me !Ironically, when I was a child, it was the 928 and not the 911 that got me to notice and like Porsche. Back then I thought the 911 was frumpy and ugly compared to other more wedge-shaped, streamlined sports cars. Now that I have a better grasp of the 911's history and ideology, I hold pretty much all 911's as the top of the pack compared to pretty anything out there.
BTW, still a big fan of the 928.
Lol me also I actually grew up in the era of the 924, 944 and 928 and initially I liked them more than the 911, but the 930 Turbo was the car I liked most then. I prefered their sleek appearances with their flip up lights been the main attraction.Kind of same story for me !
