Mazda has unveiled the 2016 CX-3 in Los Angeles.

Set to go on sale next year, the entry-level crossover has a prominent grille, sweptback headlights and plastic body cladding. Moving further back, there's curvaceous body work and a blacked out C-pillar which has been designed to resemble a rear window.

The cabin largely carries over from the Mazda2 and features circular air vents, metallic trim and gloss black accents. Higher-end variants will also have a heads-up display and a Mazda Connect infotainment system.

In the United States, the CX-3 will be powered exclusively by a 2.0-liter SKYACTIV-G petrol engine. The company was coy on specifications but it will be connected paired to a SKYACTIV-Drive automatic transmission.

Europeans, on the other hand, will receive two 2.0-liter SKYACTIV-G petrol engines and the new 1.5-liter SKYACTIV-D diesel engine. They can be connected to either a SKYACTIV-MT manual transmission or the aforementioned SKYACTIV-Drive automatic gearbox.

Front-wheel drive will be standard on both European and North American models but all-wheel drive will be optional.

The 2016 Mazda CX-3 will go on sale in the United States next summer and pricing will be announced closer to launch.

I don't like the CX-5,new mazda 2 and Atanza, but I quite like this one based on these pics, which executes the kodo design to the best IMO.

Good looking little trucklet. Mazda has the best designs out of the Japense brands and arguably they're among the best of all the main stream brands IMO.

I agree. Designs are great overall for Mazda, except the MX-5. I don't know how they could have mucked that up. But I should confess, I have somewhat soften on it from my initial reaction. Initially, it actually made me nauseous. Now, I am border-line queezy. I think I had high-hopes considering how the 6 and CX-5 turned out. Also my other criticism is that I wished they offered options for engines with more pep. While I applaud there efforts in their chassis and their engines' efficiency, I also want to go faster. But I am digressing...

Mazda is on a bit of a roll with designs. The 3 and the 6 are just miles ahead of the competition. This thing looks pretty cool too!

But i guess where Mazda lags behind is the actual engineering and engine efficiency?

Stunning crossover from Mazda. Just wish they would forget skyactive tech and pursue small displacement, forced induction engines. Their current crop of engines feel so gutless :(

Indeed they are. That interior is stunningly gorgeous.

Mazda have knocked it out of the park again, there isn't a dud in the range.

I was unsure of the new MX-5 but on further reflection I think they have designed a cracking car, unlike most replacement models it's hasn't grown in size and weight, they have done the opposite, which is good.

Topgear did a test some months ago between turbocharged Golf, Focus, Peugeot 308 and n/a Mazda 3, and the best economy was achieved with the Mazda. Their light weight aproach and Skyactive engines are very good examples of engineering and efficiency ;)

We'll, it could be worse I guess ..........it's not a Nissan Juke at least.

As usual, I see the concepts produced by Mazda's talented design team ........and then the "suits" get involved ...sigh.

Mediocrity is more commercial it seems.

EDIT: Maybe I'm being too critical ......it's better than average I suppose.

Mazda are in top form at the moment they make a mockery of Toyotas boring models with stunning looking cars in all it's classes with classy good quality interiors that without a doubt set the standard for other Japanese brands

This is one good looking crossover sharp and sexy makes the Nissan Juke look very awkward

This is a masterclass on perceived quality. How to hide the modest quality of an interior with subtle and clever design.

I am having a feeling that remaining Japanese brands, aren't able to find the suitable direction of the style. Mitsubishi, Nissan and the Toyota with nothing they aren't surprising, somewhere got lost...

What made me not convinced with Mazda's current design is they look too girly for my taste, although I find this CX-3 nice, but I still don't see myself driving it,maybe for my wife.

Stunning! In and out I cannot fault it. The FORD Eco-boost has some HUGE competition especially in the UK! Well done Mazda(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)+(y)

This new small overlap crash tests are brilliant. They demonstrate clearly that it's far better to aim for the maximum crash area when you can't avoid a crash and that "almost avoided object" scenarios are far more dangerous than most people thought.

I have always maintained that it's better to crash head on with another car than to attempt an avoidance maneuver that will end with you wrapping the car around a tree.
