will be interesting to study if the market accepts this approach from the sales figure. This new engine is quite impressive and it is almost the same amount as what the highly awaited in line 6 engine in the facelift S class promises

2018 Lexus LS has a livelier look and new twin-turbo V6
When considering that the Lexus LC 500 made it to production virtually unchanged from concept form, it was reasonable to think that the LS would similarly follow suit. Especially when the LS shares the LC's GA-L platform. Unfortunately, it didn't pan out that way.

It is possible to spot cues inspired by the LF-FC concept, such as the lower contour of the windows, the crease in the metal leading up to the rear wheel, and of course the lights and spindle grille. But they're overshadowed by the fact that this LS has a significant amount more girth.
Just because it doesn't live up to the concept doesn't mean it's a bad looking car. It's far more interesting to look at than the dated, upright LS currently on dealer lots. It also sits quite low and the wheels and tires fill the wells nicely, which gives it a road-hugging stance. There are some nifty design details, too, such as the glass that is completely flush with the pillars.

As already mentioned, the new body is wrapped around a stretched version of the LC's platform, and it also uses its 10-speed automatic. Surprisingly, though, the LS doesn't use the LC's powertrain. Under the hood is a completely new twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that pumps out 415 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. That puts it down on power, but ahead in torque compared with the LC's V8. It's also significantly more than the previous LS' V8, and Lexus predicts it will be capable of a 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds with rear-wheel drive. A Lexus PR representative also said the LS is only being released with the V6. We doubt it would be hard to drop one in later though if Lexus saw demand.

Inside, the LS is more interesting than the outside would suggest. The dash is clearly inspired by the LC 500, utilizing a similar gauge pod with traction control and drive mode selectors protruding from each side. The dash is also dominated by a wide, dark section that houses the 12.3-inch infotainment display. Just below that, is an attractive strip of slats that follow the contours of the dash and house the air vents. Back seat passengers also will have a pleasant environment thanks to the fact that the LS will only be available in a long wheelbase form, so leg room will never be in short supply. They also will have access to available reclining seats, ottoman, and Shiatsu massage functionality. According to a spokesman, the Japanese-style of massage function is a first for the LS. At the time of writing, Lexus did not provide any on-sale date or pricing information.

A flagship model is supposed to push a brand forward with new technology and style. And yet the Lexus LS hasn't received a complete redesign since 2006. That all changes for 2018 as Lexus is redesigning its flagship and lading it up with new technology and engineering.

The engineering starts with the new GA-L platform that it shares with the stunning new LC sports coupe. Lexus says the platform lowers the car's center of gravity and centralizes the mass. Additional high-strength steel, as well as aluminum, have been used to remove about 200 pounds from the platform. Braces in the engine compartment and stiff front and rear suspension towers add strength to the structure.

The lone engine at launch is a new twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 that produces 415 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. It's possible a version of this engine eventually ends up in the new Toyota sports car likely to revive the Supra nameplate.

The proportions, the side profile has gone horribly wrong, I hope it will look better when more photos are released.

The interior is just way too busy for my eyes. 3 different types of wood finish? I do like the leather wrapped driver instrument panel

Wow,even the dashboard has leather covering and stitching, they thought that was luxury? Hell no!

Interior appears to be a mix of the German trio, with a Japanese sauce poured over it.

Exterior is so-so, but I don't really see a problem with the proportions. Problematic proportions in this class belong to Audi.

hmmm, need more time to digest....
initial thoughts though:
-exterior proportions seem off a bit
-i like the interior scheme and they have seemed to do a better job of the whole dashboard width metal slats than Audi. But all I can think is what a pain it'll be to keep it clean.
-i only see one type of woodgrain
-the U/I graphics are 7 years behind
-rear seats look comfortable
-ambivalent about TT-V6 (vs. having a V8) but it better be as refined as their V8's.
-i like the slimness of the headlight units.

Also EV mode?

There are some nice detail touches in the interior but its too cluttered. Lexus always mentioned simplified in their approach and this is anything but. Exterior is far too much in my opinion it did not need the additional c-pillar window.

This is what's most notable to me. Can't get over that poor look.
And it's strange, because the Japanese are supposed to make good software. Maybe they should just hire the Playstation team for the UI next time.

Of course that's luxury. That's why we only see that in the higher end German cars. S class has it, 7er has it, LS has it. Nothing weird about that, right?

Of course, many use leather, but not wrapping it "in" the dashboard with the circle stitching like that..looks afermarket to me.
