Lexus’s LF-LC 2+2 coupé concept will make production in 2016 as a new flagship model for Toyota’s luxury arm.

Lexus Europe’s vice-president Alain Uyttenhoven revealed to Autocar on the launch of the new NX crossover that a production version of the LF-LC was due to make production as part of Lexus’s plan to launch a new model every year up to 2020.

The dramatic LF-LC was first seen at the Detroit motor show in 2012, and Uyttenhoven said that company boss Akio Toyoda “doesn’t want the production car to look any different from the concept”. Uyttenhoven said that the LF-LC concept was anything between 90 and 100 per cent representative of the production car, which he has seen.

Previous speculation has suggested that the production LF-LC would take the LC badge for production, and would be based on a shortened version of the LS’s underpinnings.

“The production LF-LC will not be huge volume [car] for Lexus, but it will bring huge emotion,” said Uyttenhoven. “Every year there will be a new model for Lexus, either a volume car like the NX or a model to boost brand image [like the LF-LC].”

With the NX planned to be introduced as 2014’s new car, next year will see the introduction of the RC coupé, including the range-topping 450bhp 5.0-litre V8-powered RC-F version.

The RC-F will be the first version of the RC to be sold in Europe, with an initial run of 500 units planned. Uyttenhoven revealed that one third of that allocation was destined for the UK.

Further variants of the RC are planned, including a staple RC300h hybrid version and a RC200t version that uses the new 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine found in the NX.

That new engine is also destined for the IS and GS, Uyttenhoven revealed.

The plan to introduce one new model a year is part of Lexus’s wider aspirations to double its European sales to 100,000 units by 2020. In the first six months of this year, it sold 24,586 cars in Europe

Lexus recently finalised design of the SC, being based on the 2017 LS' new "modular" RWD platform. All the Toyota RWD/4WD products are being squeezed in during 2015-17. The LS, Land Cruiser/LX, Prado/GX/4Runner, Tundra, and Tacoma are all midway through development and finished designs. Hopefully they do not put themselves through resource exhaustion.

So this is what's confusing me...I thought this was going to be based on the upcoming platform used for the LS, GS, etc....basically their modular RWD platform. But now I hear grumblings that this is the BMW/Toyota project. Which one is it? I think it's the former as I thought the BMW/Toyota collaboration was going to be smaller and more sprightly.

EDIT: Sorry, I misread something earlier. The BMW/Toyota collaboration most likely will not yield a Lexus product but something akin to a Supra successor, as has been the speculation since the announcement.

This is Lexus flagship coupe. S class coupe level, but I doubt Lexus will price it at s class coupe price level, probably e class coupe level

Sleek Japanese luxury coupe to deploy 10-speed auto mated to 5.0-litre V8

With the Tokyo and LA motor shows over for another year, it’s time to focus on the big debuts slated for the first motor show of the 2016 calendar – Detroit in early January.

And one important reveal from Japan will be the Lexus LC 500.

We’ve seen concept cars come and go at past shows, like the first time the LF-LC concept luxury coupe debuted at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show. But the artist’s image you see here is very close to how the car will appear on stage according to Lexus sources.

Boasting an even bolder take on Lexus’ controversial ‘spindle grille’ front end, the upwards-slanted headlights are adorned with the characteristic Nike-like ‘swooshes’, along with angular air intakes for the front brakes and side air intakes for the rear brakes.

Penned at Toyota’s CALTY Design Research in California, the original 2012 concept car was given an immediate thumbs-up by all media and the public, a factor that helped fast track the 2+2 coupe’s journey to production reality.

The LC 500 will be offered with two powertrains – a naturally aspirated V8 and a hybrid V6.

The same 351kW/530Nm 5.0-litre V8 propelling the RC F and GS F will most likely be married to a world-first 10-speed automatic transmission supplied by Aisin, which will aid performance efficiency.

The RC 500h on the other hand, will employ an all-new 3.5-litre V6 ‘multi-hybrid’ for rear-drive models, that will also be offered on the next-generation LS.

This new multi-hybrid incorporates the same design logic and weight-saving measures as those seen on the new Prius. Using a revised version of the outgoing GS 450h’s block but completely redesigning the engine and hybrid system, heat efficiency and fuel economy will be significantly improved.

That difference is no better expressed than by comparing the two output figures. In contrast to the ageing GS 450h’s 260kW, the new LC 500h’s combined power output could eclipse 350kW. A source tells us that the V6 engine will generate 230kW while the motor will produce 162kW.

In contrast to the new TNGA (Toyota new global architecture) that is set to be used on all Toyota models in future and first used on the new Prius, the all-new LS and LC models are likely to employ different underpinnings. The big Lexus cars will incorporate a rear section from the TNGA but will add an aluminium space frame setup at the front end.

There’s also talk of carbon-fibre components used in the construction as well, which should mean the new LC will save a significant amount of weight.

As the all-new LC 500 and LC 500h will debut in production form at Detroit we can look forward to a hot ‘F’ version in 2018, a coupe rumoured to be fitted with a circa-450kW 4.0-litre V8 boosted by twin electric turbochargers. Bring on 2018.

I think this is the first time I say this but this car absolutely destroys the SL in terms of looks.

It looks fantastic.

When is this car going to get leaked? I bet that for the past 6 weeks, this car has been in and out of photo shoots and is still in the middle of them. Toyota is too bloody good at hiding future products. People need to be more observant and catch them in act, so I can get this over with by Christmas.

That probably is close, but not quite it. I am familiar with artist and they are rarely on point. Wrongly guessed V37 (Q50), Lexus NX, and many others. Apparently the production car looks much better than the LF-LC, which better be the case. That concept is a bit long in the tooth, even if a bit timeless. One wouldn't want to keep it in production 15 years after that.

I think we won't see in this Christmas. It's more easy to seel images leaked that spy shots. It's very, very difficult to catch spy shots from Lexus and Toyota compared with shots from prototypes from others cars producers.
