Discovery [Official] Land Rover Discovery 5 (L462)

The Land Rover Discovery is a series of five or seven-seater family SUVs, produced under the Land Rover marque. The series was introduced in 1989, making the Discovery the first new model series since the launch of the 1970 Range Rover – on which it was based – and only the third new product line since the conception of the Land Rover (vehicle and brand) by Rover in 1948.

first pic is here!

It's a fresh face that will have Range Rover owners snarking in annoyance that a Discovery might be mistaken for their car.

Overall it looks identical to the Discovery Vision Concept.

Rumour is that Land Rover may use a 2.0 litre Ingenium four-pot to move this big thing around. And you thought the TDV6 was unreliable?

Which is not a bad thing. The Discovery Vision Concept was modern and very clean in its design execution.

I have seen a few Range Rovers today and after seeing this teaser image theirena front now looks a bit old compared to the clean nose of the Discovery.

The new Hugh powered 2.0 is debuting in 2017 model year RR Sport. My biggest concerns about that engine powering those big elephants are power lag, noise and fuel consumption.

Some movement...but still camouflaged.

Wow it looks great, a bit like a bigger RR Sport, much more sportier and sleeker than the current brick on wheels

What is ahead of the movie, with Bear Grylls...about intelligent seat fold technology:

I almost bought a Discovery Sport earlier this year. My saving grace was that it's a bit too slow and interior too utilitarian. Facebook comment about the build quality and reliability of the Evoque and Discovery Sport are down right laughable.

I wouldn't touch a LRJ product in its first manufacturing year.

I think the new Discovery looks great. Its more sporty and dynamic than pervious versions which were more about utility.
I expect the Sport to get a slight re freshening next year to bring it into line with the new Discovery.

Agree, but for the sport/dynamics I would buy a X5. for utility/off road a discovery.

Can't see why not they have just released the RRS with a twin turbo 2.0 Ingenium four-pot.

I think the styling on this one is JLR's first major cockup, it doesn't look like a Discovery, thee's far too much RR in it, the Dicso needs to be a square boxy vehicle, if you go to any of the Discovery forums there are howls of protest, it looks to me like JLR haven't really talked to their customers.

The new breed of customers will like what they see.

You can say the same about the Range Rover. It should look boxy like it did 10 years ago but everyone and their auntie want the current one. Similarly the Discovery Sport is flying off the shelves unlike what the Freelander did.

Once the new Discovery is on the road, I think those protesting will be won over by the new design. However I do understand if some mourn the boxy design as it's unique.

The new breed of customers will like what they see.

But if they like what they see they are already cartered to with the RR and RRS. The existing customers aren't happy, it's easier to retain customers than find one one.
