Here’s something we don’t get, although we’re sure it has something to do with intensive market research that included 8x10 color glossy photographs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one was. Why did Land Rover toss the Discovery and Freelander nameplates in the US but continue to use them here? Surely their reputation for British unreliability and suckiness was universal. Land Rover prices new LR2

Land Rover has provided U.S. dealers with a price list for the 2008 Land Rover LR2, which was unveiled in May. The base model will carry a MSRP of $34,700, which dealers describe as very well equipped.

A Tech Package will add an additional $3,500, a Lighting Package $1,050, a Cold Climate Package $700, and a Narvik Black Paint $400. Fully loaded, the SUV will carry a MSRP of $40,350.

The Tech Package includes: a DVD Based Navigation system, Dolby ProLogic II 7.1 Surround Sounds System, Sirius Satellite Radio, Rear Seat Audio Controls, and Personal Telephone Integration System with Bluetooth Connectivity. The Lighting Package includes: BI-Xenon Headlights, Adaptive Front-lighting system, Approach & Puddle lights, And memory Driver seat and mirrors. The Cold Climate package includes: Heated front windshield, heated front row seats (two heateing levels) and heated windshield washer jets.
