XF [Official] Jaguar XF (X260)

The Jaguar XF (X250) is an executive luxury sports saloon car that was manufactured and marketed by the British automobile manufacturer Jaguar Cars. Launched in Autumn 2007 as a replacement for the S-Type, the XF was designated internally as the X250. The X250 was succeeded by the X260 in 2015.
Precious little discussion - relatively speaking - around a brand new model introduction, particularly from the likes of a premium marque like Jaguar...

Heck, there isn't even a Page 2 of this thread - is such ambivalence indicative?

The exterior is nice for this class, but the interior looks too simple and boring.

Hard to get excited about a car that looks identical to the model it replaces. At first glance (and even after I read the press release), I thought it was simply the second facelift of the original XF, not a new model.

The first generation XF was a gorgeous car for its time but that was a decade ago. Today, the new F-Type has pushed the Jaguar brand appeal forward (fresh aggressive design), then the XE took a big step backwards (dull and conservative). Unfortunately, the new XF borrows too much from the XE and the first XF.

The new XF should have pushed the concept of the sleek sedan/coupe profile more aggressively which was the original XF's strongest selling and differentiating point. But now all the competitors have launched niche sedan/coupe products like the CLS, 6GT or A7 so the XF aesthetic feels weak in comparison.

If it were my decision, I would have pushed the XF to emulate the Aston Martin Rapide in terms of a aggressive sleek coupe profile while further evolving the design language of the F-Type, being sure not to simply stretching the F-type coupe to accommodate 4 doors like Aston did with the Rapide.

I have already said before the X260 is evolutionary, as is the XE (X760), as the next XJ is a revolutionary car inside out. It could not be usurped by the lesser XF before launch.

The X250 XF was launched to the marketplace in early 2008, so that's not really a full decade ago or I must be pushing 30 (not to be pedantic). You haven't seen all the model grades yet, but I do understand some of your distaste regarding the dash design. This car was pretty much done with design by the time I first laid eyes on it, but I understand why certain decisions were made on it. None of the core range needs to be a 4 door version of X152.

Ok here are comparisons with the new XF and previous model as well as the XE.

In my honest opinion i prefer the interior of the old XF to the new version interior and as well as XE interior. The older version had much better door panels with higher quality looking plastics and novel and unique features such as the pop up gearlever and roll shut vents. I think the older model exterior still looks good and probably even better than the new model/XE.

I couldn't care less about Jaguar. I've never been interested in them and I'm surprised how much interest and feeling they generate in people on here, both good and bad. I accept they're "premium" and why they're compared to BMW, Audi and MB, but on a personal level, I would never consider a Jaguar over one of the big three Germans.

In terms of material and layout, I prefer the older XF interior. The lowered upper portion of the dash gives it a more airy feel.

While Jaguars are not on par with the Germans, they are not everywhere. Everyone and his mother is driving an Audi, a BMW or an MB. A Jag ends up being something different and I am amongst those that are willing to lower (only slightly though) their standards for something that's not as common as a Golf nowadays.

Exactly. More than likely if I was shopping, I probably would not choose a Jag over MB, Audi, BMW or Lexus. But I am glad they are still out there adding variety in the marketplace. Can you imagine if it was only German cars? That'd be soooooooooooo bleeding boring.

That's a shortsighted approach to launching products that have a 7 or 8 year lifespan. Each model has to stand on its own merit as buyers usually cross-shop for cars at particular price point. Buyers don't typically go into one dealer and test drive the entire range. The already dated MkII XF has to spend the better part of the next decade sitting on the showroom floor trying to pull customers away from other luxury brands.

Fugly old school hood shutline (for a brand new car, and the old didn't even have it!!), ugly interior, ugly 3rd side window, and a rear that's worse than the old car.

Nicely done.

Give this guy a price!
We have a winner! Someone has managed to find the differences! :D

I agree with the whole post except this quote. Only the front is very similar, the rest is quite different.

...and I'm surprised how much interest and feeling they generate in people on here, both good and bad.

Quite simple. Jaguar used to be a leading luxury 'premium' brand, decades ago.
'The good' think Jaguar is still on top, and 'the bad' question whether they are still premium....and this debate is hardly exclusive to this forum.

That front end is pretty much a face lift of the previous model. The interior design is sub par...look at that door panel...Jaguar can do nice interiors, like the current XJ, but this new XF just doesn't cut it.

Darker exterior seems to suit it. However, a lighter interior has not done much to address its shortcomings.

On a side-note, I find it a bit humorous where Jag had emphasized the sensor-activated glovebox in the last gen, and now we have a rather conventional ho-hum glovebox.

The steering wheel of the new one looks better.

I have already said before the X260 is evolutionary, as is the XE (X760), as the next XJ is a revolutionary car inside out. It could not be usurped by the lesser XF before launch.

This got me triggered. @ carmaker1, you obviously have seen the new XJ. I've just got one question: is the new XJ more looking like a classic sedan than the old one? Does it have a classic boot? (as opposed to the more or less liftback/two box design of the current XJ).

Ok these shots of a more luxuries cream, alu and wood interior look a little better but it just doesn't compare to the nice interior of the previous model or even come close to the brilliant interiors of the obvious german 3. The door panels look terrible just like the XE, flat with no nice details and then the center console also looks very fussy. In my opinion the new Cadillac CT6 interior looks better. The leather ribbed seats are the only thing that gives homage to previous Jags which I like
