The BMW Z models are a line of roadsters manufactured by German automaker BMW. The Z stands for Zukunft (German for future), and has been produced in four different series with six generations consisting of roadster, coupé, sports car, and concept variants.
The introduction of the M Coupé and M Roadster in the Z3 line marked the first of the Z series to have a high-performance BMW M variant. The first generation Z4 also continued to offer M Coupé and M Roadster variants. The current Z4 (G29) uses BMW's (B58B30) inline-six, its platform is the basis for the current Toyota Supra.

Shakal,Thanks for posting up those pic's.I was just about to post them up myself.The car is awesome in person.....beautiful machine.I also was able to see and hear the car on the BMW test track.Sounds spectacular....reminds me a little of a Porsche Cayman on the gas.BMW should sell a buch of these cars!!!! Yesterday I saw the E89, at its official presentation. It was an S-Drive35, the dark blue one with white leather.
When I entered the showroom, the car was in front of me at profile 3/4 frontal angle and the roof was closed. I can confirm that I was stunned. The effect this car has at that angle cannot be conveyed in pictures. The proportions and stance are to die for you can't take your eyes off it. I spent alot of time around it, and it's indeed beautiful all around but I won't forget the initial impression at that angle, mind blowing.
The car looked significantly bigger at first impression. But after spending time around it I realized it was actually not that much bigger. Especially from the inside where this car is really still a very small car. I still miss the sensation of space of my old Z3, where the doors weren't as thick, the seats weren't as big, and the dashboard wasn't as wide, and the belt line of the car was all around much much lower, increasing the sensation of freedom and space.
So I spent time in it, turned on the engine (to the dismay of everyone breathing the same air in the showroom), so I couldn't really enjoy the sound of the engine. I noticed that the parking brake is a pain, that wouldn't disengage except when it feels like it (in this case when the engine is on). then I played with the roof
the i-Drive, etc etc.
One funny thing is that the frontal windscreen is actually very short! My dealer said it was part of the design, cause all roadsters have huge windscreens to decrease the size of the roof that has to fold down, but they decided to avoid that on this one. It sure gives it a much sportier look.
We hanged around the car for quite a while and then it was time to drive back to the basement of the dealership, and so it rolled back and away. Was nice seeing it.
On the way back, the dealer offered me a lift in his three series cabrio. I know that car well but I compared immediately the sensation. Obviously the interior of the 3-series is much blander, and much much bigger. But the problem is the same, the car is huge on the outside but the interior is funnily not as spaceous as one'd imagined it. Maybe I'm getting old and need an SUV lol

Mike, how do you compare the materials' quality of the new Z4 with the materials of the old model?

absolutely nothing to complain regarding build quality and the materials, i spent a long time pressing every button on the dashboard, the car is very very well crafted together. the shut of the door sounded good and the door is heavier than on the E85. the steering wheel is also great.

In a 7er, the PAS, and X's, I can understand where an electronic E-brake is useful and applicable, but in a car with sporting pretenses, ie., 1er, 3er, 5er, and th e Z's, it'd been nice if they went with an honest-to-goodness mechanical hand e-brake. A minor thing, really. Also I do understand that an electronic e-brake does tend to take less real estate in the transmission tunnel, but I"m sure it could of been pulled off.
