Z Series [Official] E89 BMW Z4

The BMW Z models are a line of roadsters manufactured by German automaker BMW. The Z stands for Zukunft (German for future), and has been produced in four different series with six generations consisting of roadster, coupé, sports car, and concept variants. The introduction of the M Coupé and M Roadster in the Z3 line marked the first of the Z series to have a high-performance BMW M variant. The first generation Z4 also continued to offer M Coupé and M Roadster variants. The current Z4 (G29) uses BMW's (B58B30) inline-six, its platform is the basis for the current Toyota Supra.
Well, ok. It doesn't bother me much to be honest.

I dislike the fact that they call a 4.4 liter a 5.0 liter, or the I6 with 326 hp '740i'. Or the 2.0TT diesel 123d.....that bothers me more somehow :t-crazy2:

Oh no, they've donte the same as Mercedes...
:eusa_doh:

It's just really a big LOL ^^
Why ?!
Stupid :D

Haha, the irony of someone with the handle 'Betty Swollocks' complain about terrible choice of name.

ps. If that is indeed your real name, my sincere apology, I have a twisted mind :).

No. It's an internet handle and a humourous spoonerism, and therefore doesn't have any importance beyond the domain of this website. It is not a nomenclature designed to promote the economic efficiency of a performance car, which "M:e" is.

I detect a bit of hostility on your part which is ill-judged. I am not trolling, merely pointing out that the name "M:e" is a bad choice due to it's connotations and association with a medical condition. If this name is chosen it will be huge joke, believe me.

I am a huge BMW fan and have no intention of "trolling".

But they don't call a 4.4 litre a 5.0 litre. :t-hands:

The name of the model is the 750i or the 50xDrive. It's just a way of naming a model. The days of it meaning the engine size are long gone.

And, this business of naming the cars "xDrive" or "sDrive" is very silly indeed.

^ No, the new 4.4 litre twin-turbo engine is fitted in models designated 750i or X6 xDrive50i for example...

I'm less fussed about nomenclature accurately depicting engine displacement but the xDrive / sDrive monikers are verbose in my opinion.

Edit - perhaps I misunderstood your post i.e. it's not like BMW are saying that the 4.4 litre is a 5.0 litre which I agree with you on. But I see klier's point too...

Yes, that is what I am saying. The numbers i.e. 740i, 750i, 330i, 335i, is just a way of naming the models and shouldn't (anymore) be taken as a way of determing the engine size.

Off topic a little but while we're on the subject of nomenclature, I personally feel that the "i" to denote spark ignition engines in BMW's badging is outmoded and superfluous.

Why not just xDrive50 and if it's a diesel xDrive30d. Same goes for 335 vs 335d or 335h or whatever. That little "i" stems back from the days when fuel "i"njection was the big thing in engine power and efficiency. Days back when I was a kid. These days, well, we all know that cars are fuel injected at the very least. And of course, the "i" has little relevance back to petrol being the fuel type.

The pricing in Germany has been writen somewhere in the previous pages. As for the greek prices axpect a big extra νταβαντζιλικι :D
