SL-Class Official Details Of The New Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Models

The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class (marketed as Mercedes-AMG SL since 2022) is a grand touring roadster manufactured by Mercedes-Benz since 1954.
I think that this is a great refresh... I might even like it more than the old version. Although that one was classy, sometimes girly depending on the color, this one is all man, especially the AMG version.

However, as with ALL late MB's, the steering wheel looks horrid. Why couldn't they keep these ones or something along this line:

... those were some of the best

I love the fact that now, real AMGs look different from regular with AMG-package.
The front and the rear looks sooo good...

But right now I want to know more about this MCT: WHAT IS THIS?

Does it really have a dual-clutch, yes or no??

If yes, it is a sequential, right?
I can't see how an auto tranny could work with a clutch...I mean, if it has a clutch it is a sequential, isn't it?

A automatic gearbox can work with a clutch provided the clutch is electronically controlled to enable it a degree of slippage or lock to mimic the 'creep' function allowed by a torque converter.

The MCT is not a dual clutch gearbox and its not sequential. One of the little known advantages of the 7G-Tronic gearbox is that it can skip gears to shorter shift times during kickdowns (ie it can go from third to first gear without going through second) or upshifts to the overdrive 7th gear from third gear without going through the gears in between.

Isn`t it amazing how Mercedes AMG has gotton so aggressive with that rear diffuser!

Check out the 2004 model and how it has evoled to just comb through the air flow. Someone needs to post pics sometime to see these changes.

(I`m too lazy and tired today...)

Guess that also explains why the wet clutch. A dry one wouldn't last too long with the slippage.

Luwalira, I didn't want to say anything given the massive negative criticism displayed by nearly everyone on the internet, but I guess we're part of a very small bunch that are loving this new design. I must admit, my initial reaction was quite negative, but literally only a few days later, I loved it! The standard car is good, but the AMG package and the SL63 are both simply flawless.

People have to understand that it was simply not feasible to proceed with the peanut headlight design forever. This new design direction is simply much more aggressive and 'proud'. The wide grille makes a bold statement and the aggression in the lights is simply marvellous.

Life goes on, things change; evolution determines our fate. If we stand still, we will get left behind. The new SL is an expression of Mercedes-Benz evolving with the times, and I am very grateful for that.:eusa_clap

If it has a clutch, you can feel the gearchanges. It then works like a sequential, doesn't it?

What would be the differences between a sequantial and this 7G-Tronic with clutch? Would it feel like a sequantial, eg. the regime does not fall down when the throttle is released?

I don't understand the differences between this and a sequantial, if someone could explain it to me...And what would it change for the driver...

BTW the SL63 looks absolutely gorgeous...
I've said it from the beginning, this FL is fabulous. :icondrool

will mercedes-benz provide a SL63 AMG BLACK SERIES or SL63 AMG (SINGNATURE SERIES)?

The SL most definitely needed something though. While gorgeous and what not there is more competition than ever. Maserati, BMW, Jaguar and Aston-Martin all have droptops and/or coupes in the SL's space. Even perfection needs to be refreshed in the eyes of consumers.

That's why they're shooting back with the SL BS :usa7uh:.....

BTW, did you notice the buttons next to gear shifter (about 4 of them), that must be the "Race Start Function" the AMG website is talking about.

Yes. I just hate how they're making us wait for the details. It appears that the SL gets all of the latest Benz hardware from various newer Benzes, a good thing.

I'll be very curious to see how sales of the SL are blipped by this facelift. This is a departure from what MB has done in the past, and overall, I think it was the right thing to do.

A decent facelift that does not leave previous SL owners out in the cold... But I still don't like that they did not replace the interior buttons with those akin in the S-Class which have much better quality. Also the headlights look a little weird. But overall, a fine effort.

I WANT THIS CAR SOOOOOOOO BADLY :icondrool

Cant wait for details on the new trany .... Oh boy oh boy !!:t-banghea

I'm sold on this "facelift" now, especially the AMG version. I didn't expect the SL65 to get a new tranny with that insane power rating it has.

Merc... The SL is a world-class icon. MB has a responsibility to maintain that status. This latest facelift is a disappointment, and that is quite clear, as most onlookers should be thrilled and excited when they see it, and too many clearly are not... for obvious reasons. The facelift is indeed a letdown for a car of this stature.

However, that said, the rest of the car is fortunately delightful and gorgeous enough to support the facelift until the next rendition comes along. An important advantage of this facelift, however, is its rather immediate recognition factor, which is typically good from a marketing standpoint.

Now, I'm impatient for the next SL. I'll bet others are, too.
