What do you guys think of the chance VW will ever do a top speed test on the Chiron? It's out for 3 years now and no magazine has performance tested it yet. Are they chicken or think its slower than the Koenigsegg?

Maybe so, but I don't think Bugatti see the need to do a top speed run since the Chrion is still selling nicely.

There is no point as other boutique car manufacturer will do everything in their power to beat even if it has little signifigance to customers. The Veyron is culture and it's status is no longer defined just by top speed.

Or maybe it's just that the W16 has shown already that it consistently delivers true 400 km/h plus performance. Day in, day out, in one of the most luxuriously appointed vehicles to be had. Perhaps there's no point wasting time proving what's already been proven and, instead, wait for one of the other noise makers to actually deliver a result.

An idea of the next one off perhaps? There will be 17 of these...

Bugatti Type 103 Concept Tries To Make The Chiron More Interesting

quad-turbocharged W16 produces 1,500 PS (1,479 HP) and 1,600 Nm (1,180 lb-ft) of torque, which is certainly enough to put it in the conversation for “greatest hypercar ever.”

While Bugatti has worked a lot on improving the Chiron’s driving feel compared to the somewhat sterile Veyron, it has played it safe with the styling, opting for a sleek update of, more or less, the same theme. Which may or may not be everyone’s cup of Earl Grey, especially compared to more daring rivals like the Koenigsegg Jesko, for instance.

Well, this rendering by Invisive looks to change all that thanks to its “dramatic” exterior.

According to the designer, the idea behind the Type 103, as it is named, was to “take the classic Bugatti ‘C’ line and play with it and see what the result would be, tying in the rest of the shapes after establishing the main lines and providing some drama to the overall shape of the body with the help of interesting proportions and structure while still making it identifiable with the French brand.”

Immediately we notice that this render has a more aggressive appearance, with squinty headlights and a visibly larger front grille. Move to the sides and you can see a new door design and a more of a closed loop ‘C’ line. Which, for what it’s worth, we don’t think works that well on the Chiron’s shape. But that’s just us; what say you?

It looks like Bugatti is moving away from the traditional hypercar/supercar manufacturer, that focus on increased production numbers and less exclusivety by becoming a more exquisite and unique design house bringing out many limited design versions all based on the Chiron platform. I am not too bowled over by this particular design but I do like the unique design of the brake calipers.

I'd be far more cynical. I assume Bugatti are under the same pressure as all VW brands to deliver short term profit to help pay for diesel gate. What other options do they have for Bugatti, develop an all new sub Chiron platform/engine, develop the saloon platform. That's all massive expenditure and potentially obsolete sooner rather than later with the way powertrains are going... far less outlay to base something on the Chiron and keep it very limited (so you can jack up the price even further), increase your margins... pay for the legal bills :D

Exactly. I assume that the profit margin on the Voitture noire is close to €13-€14 million calculating around €3-4 million in costs (a regular Chiron at €2,4+ million has a margin of around €300k-€500k). Think about that for a second. It's the only way to make Bugatti profitable.

I know you all love Shmeeee so here he is in all his glory
