X5 [Official] BMW X5 (G05)

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.
So, using carbon fiber and more lightweight steel doesn't result in weight reduction? Or without CLAR, it would weight 180kg more instead of 111kg?
The CLAR architecture is not necessarily using CFRP, but rather a smart mix of materials. This technical data specification is rather strange for me, because it gives also the EU weight but this version 50i will not be available in Europe, so why give the weight according to the EU standard.

CLAR is Cluster Architecture, it's a scaleable platform, not necessarily a light weight one and it doesn't inherently use Carbon Fibre. BMW has only implemented "Carbon Core" with the 7-er as far as I recall. It's a bigger car, longer, wider, greater cross-section, longer wheelbase, and it'll have more 'stuff' in it.

It's fag-packet maths but the volumetric weight is 132kg/m³ compared to 130kg/m³... so not much really ~1.5%

Since we don't know the BIW weights it's not really possible to say how effective the platform is at saving weight.

A VERY weird decision @BMW to premiere the new interior layout & styling (incl. the all-digital LiveCockpit) in the G05 X5, and not eg. in the new BMW flagship: the 8er. Or at least in the X-family new flagship: the X7. Since both are brand new models, and not just a new Mk.

Very, very, weird.

It will now appear completely lame when brand new 8er & especially X7 will be launched with very similar or even almost identicaly interior layout & styling as the G05 X5.

At least 8er should have been launched before X5 - premiering the new interior styling & tech.

Btw ... Although the X5 looks very nice & the aggressiveness is finally back @BMWDesign they still can't get the cohesiveness of the designs (as in the 90s and back) quite right. Still too many fuzzy lines, inconsistent styling features, views from certain angles not giving vehicle a coherent look etc. MB & Audi & Jaguar & Volvo & Porsche etc can do that much better. Maybe Z4, X7 & the 8er will bring that back. But will they really. ;)

Yet ... the lack of certain design serenity puts the BMW in the league of Lexus now, I guess ... when it comes to more fuzzy styling. It's ok if it works. And it seems it does - BMW are still able to sell lots of their cars. So ... Long live the fuzziness ... I guess. :D

True. Audi got the order right with their launch: A8>A7>A6

I love the (optional) automatic boot roller cover. Fancy feature (for this segment).

Another neat feature: when you open the side doors the ambient light in the door handler alu trim turns into blinking red "hazard" light: alerting the cyclists, motorists, other cars etc that the doors are opened.

Anything else? Oh, the glass / crystal decorative elements ... very nice.

Capable off-road package with all-wheel air-suspension, rear diff lock, special (selectable) xDrive modes is also a nice edition to the X-family.

Absolutely nothing weird about that. BMW UI is always the same in every car, it doesn't matter in which car the Live Cockpit debuts.
What they did is great, the sooner the better. Or did you want them to launch this X5 with the old systems? Makes no sense at all. It would be completely lame if they didn't launch the Live Cockpit and new interior design.

Yeah.....no
Completely disagree.

I read that the X5 xDrive50i will not be available in Europe. Is this temporary and due to the new WLTP emission cycle (a reason for which the production M550i was also halted)?

It surprises me they are not talking about an X5 M50i instead, if I am to follow the latest M Performance trend.
Yes until then the engine has exclusive rights with The 8. Then we will see it in The 7. The X5,X6 and The X7 and an updated M550i but not necessary in that order.

I will make it rain with drama queen emojis for you. If just for the humour.

X5 50i and X5M50d.

111kg heavier in the 50i.
40kg heavier in the 30d.
85kg heavier in the M50d
30kg heavier in the 35i, now 40i.

Well, it basically goes back to the same weight as the E70.

Funny fact: I haven't read a single complaint regarding the character line. I like it a lot, but I surely thought a lot wouldn't....

And the M50 versions look just SICK. I can't even imagine the X5 M

Where's this coming from? And how do the new weights compare to e.g. the new Cayenne and new Q7?

Comparing the press releases of G05 and F15. The third row adds 85kg, so I don't know if it standard on the M50i and M50d. For sure we won't hear any mention of weight reduction on this version of the X5.

It works on the X5 but the one on the Q2 does not work at all. It looks like someone has drove into your side.
But it highlights a design feature of the first generation X5.

Sorry, I usually don‘t hit the disagree button but, in this case I really had to.
First, I think the X5 has traditionally been the vehicle introducing new interior elements .... didn‘t the F15 start with the freestanding screen back then, for instance? The X5 has a great reputation at BMW (opposite to the borderline neglected 7er) because it sits between upper business and luxury class but at the same time sells well and is highly profitable. So it’s entirely understandable to me.
Second, this is really clean design. Sure, I would have also preferred the rearlights to be greyed out in the way the new X4 solves it. But basically, all lines make sense, the greenhouse-body composition is practically flawless. Mercedes may use less creases, however, there are still lines running all over the metal. Maybe I can share a more thorough analysis of this later on ...

Edit: Weight kinda disappointing. As is this door deco panel topic. Anxiously waiting for the production version solution. Seems like they are still playing round.

Glass shift level from Volvo.
Rear from Jeep or KIA Sorento
Start/Stop button from AUDI.
iDrive knob from W222
AC vents from Mazda CX5
And that ugly screen solution...

I don't see BMW here. Sorry. F15 X5 is still the best X5 for me.

It looks great specilally the side view and the interior but if there something that annoy me it would be the headlight design .it looks way too similiar to x1 headlight not the x3 and that a bad thing .
