X5 [Official] BMW X5 (G05)

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.
Why will they brand the x7 and m50d when the 7 series is branded as 50d?

X7 is branded as the M50d.
It is confusing when The 7 is just simply the 750d. Even though it's the same engine. I would expect this to only identify the M760Li as the M flagship.
The 750d still remains on sale whilst the 750i and M760Li are placed on hiatus.

Let’s hope BMW rebrand the 750i and 750d upon the facelift, and give them optional m performance models

Love this one! Great job. What's your Instagram? Would love to share it. We only did the F15 vs G05 :)

Their new I drive will obliterate everything. Btw is that glass or plastic on the new gear lever ?

First (ever? lol) appearance of new glass applications (optional) for
  • the newly designed transmission selector lever,
  • the Controller,
  • the Start/Stop button in the centre console and
  • the audio system control knob.
It's Swarovski crystal ... not "just" any glass.

Areas of cost cutting are:
Door bins: The inside is shiny trashcan like plastic rather than textured plastic.

Door cards: No inlays. This is probably intentional so that they can offer it on the X7 and claim the interior is more luxurious. FYI the G25 has inlays on doors.

Nick picking over.

I don’t like the grille. It’s pig-snouty. But I would buy one. The off-road package is a good move.

Door bins: most likely due to being a pre production model. But highly disappointing even at this stage.

Door cards (?): The X7 concept does't have it either from what I can tell. It's part of the design. No need to have inlays everywhere for the sake of being 'exclusive'.

There are small inlays present in the door cards (=door panels, @klier ;) ) though. Below door handle, above the speaker. (y)

i wonder if BMW finally is done with the 2L diesel engines for the X5 ?!

Here is a video of the door bins.

Saw this on a forum and not going to lie, the slight distinctive mismatch on the tail lights made this look much better to me:

I think I'm just easily pleased :P

E70 was also the first with that kind of interior, but again, there wasnt x7 back in the days

Strategically, it makes sense to introduce certain key changes in more mainstream models in order to facilitate habituation ... the X7 will be a rare sight in most markets and will also be highly controversial due to its size. Also, it‘s got no tradition, it‘s an obvious marketing move. The X5, in contrast, has been a forerunner for an entire segment, maybe even segments. And it‘s still luxury class ... so nobody gets the impression innovation is discounted on it.

Some more words on the rearlights being generic. Yes, I think un-lit and in isolation, I would not have attributed them to BMW. But aesthetically, they fulfill a purpose and BMW has every right to vary their formula. Btw, when Mercedes presented their new Coupe rearlight shape on the S coupe, I criticized them as generic, too. And I still would (also on a number of other Benzes that iterate the basic shape) because they do not only not anchor in Mercedes tradition but they do not work perfectly, imo. Many of those who pick on the X5 now are perfectly fine with the MB lights. Bottom line: It‘s quite evident that it is highly subjective whether one perceives a shape as generic or not, and whether one finds a generic shape acceptable or not. Maybe, this is the most subjective issue in (car) design, in general.

BMW should really pay Volvo some royalties for copying the XC90 glass gearshift idea in such plain sight. I guess imitation really is the sincerest form of flattery!

Nice try. But the Glass gearstick was a feature on the 2014 Vision Future Luxury Concept. Which ideas illustrated are beginning to emerge on the market.
