An M Performance with 350 hp I4 would be more than enough, no need for an M.

I don't think I'm fond of the M-Sport treatment on the X1 (or even the X5). I think it looks better with the X-Line because it has that perfect blend of luxury and ruggedness. Plus the smaller wheels of the M-sport are nowhere near as sexy as those of the larger X-line option.

I can understand that. I have to see it in person though. It does bug me that it appears to not have parking distance control with M-Sport. Silly detail but it bugs me. And since this might be my only option in lieu of the 1er hatch not brought to the US, I find I care.

Isn't the M Performance line just the M-Sports Package with the unique M Performance wheels? ..because that rendering is not using the M-Sports Package.

WELL DONE BMW. Your step child has grown up and lost 90% of it's awkwardness. It looks very very good externally. Internally is a bit of a let down.

It would probably be my pick in this class, followed by the Q3. I like how the Q3 and now X1 look more like proper SUV's. The GLA looks too much like a hatch on stilts.

That said, for the sake of fairness, in these comparison shots, are the X1 and Q3 not with sports packs? It wouldn't change the outcome though...

In those sets of shots you quoted, no, the white X1 is shown in X-Line, but not M-Sports Package. The Q3... dunno.

X-Line > M Package in my opinion.

I see the configurators are online for the international site bmw.com. Why is M-Sport shown as a line, but not part of the configurator? Is it that the line details are changing?

BMW X1 hybrid under consideration
Production depends on market demand
BMW has admitted they are analyzing the prospects of launch a hybrid version of the second generation X1.

A source close to BMW's powertrain development team cited by Motoring says the X1's UKL is compatible with a plug-in hybrid setup as demonstrated with a prototype of the 2-Series Active Tourer, but the Bavarian marque isn't sure whether there's enough demand for a hybridized X1. If green-lighted for production, the green X1 would join the much larger X5 xDrive40e which employs a turbo-four 2.0-liter with an electric motor for a 313 PS & 450 Nm combined output.

As for the X1 hybrid, this would obviously come with a lesser hardware arrangement and chances are it would mix up a three-cylinder, 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor. In the 2-Series Active Tourer hybrid prototype, the combustion engine generates 136 PS & 220 Nm while the electric motor delivers an extra 88 PS & 165 Nm.

While the hybrid people-carrier is nearing production, BMW will wait a while to further analyze if there are enough people who would by a hybridized X1.
