X1 [Official] BMW X1 (F48)

The BMW X1 is a line of cars produced by BMW since 2009. A subcompact luxury crossover class, the first-generation X1 was based on the E90 3 Series and offered rear-wheel drive layout as standard. The second-generation X1 marked the switch to a front-wheel-drive-based layout using the UKL2 platform shared with the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the Mini Countryman.
For those so inclined to evaluate the Utility in SUV then ground clearance is 183mm. Nothing special at all so all those lifestyle, outdoorsy shots are somewhat cynical. For frame of reference a Freelander Sport - oops I mean Discovery - has 215mm at the front axle if memory serves. Not that X1 is a direct competitor to Disco Sport - that would be the X3 - in spite of the fact that the mechanical architecture (transverse-oriented drivetrain) is the same between X1 and the Land Rover.

For those quick to point out that this is an SAV and A stands for Activity - whatever that may be - then there are some positives: the exterior looks are great and this little thing will sell like hotcakes. The 50:50 weight distribution is great and the XDrive being able to send up to 100% of the torque to the rear wheels sounds great but is not in any way remarkable in this day and age.

The interior - specifically the dashboard facia doesn't give off real BMW vibes, for obvious reasons - granted. The long gear lever with leatherette gaiter looks weird and un-BMW-like in the current interior idiom. I personally am not a fan of the integration between the hang-down console and the transmission tunnel console.

Who can tell us more about the 8-Speed Steptronic in transverse application? Made by?

It's nice but am I rushing out to get in the queue? Nope. Forester stays as the soft-roader of choice in this family.

Wow, surprised at the positive reaction this X1 is getting on the web. People seem shocked that they actually like it.

I have to say the only two things I don´t like about it are the central console and the transmision tunnel area. The look kind of weak, fragile.

Overall the car is like day and night compared to the old model. It have X5-like proportions, does not look like a FWD at all, front and rear end are very well designed... Yet it´s not aggressive enough not to make room for a X2.

Great job.

Regarding X2 ... BMW just keeps going with marketing activities for two X2 models: X2, and X2 Sport. I wonder what that could be. :D:whistle: Is it about CAV vs SAC? Or 5dr vs 3dr? We shall see that pretty, pretty soon. Since marketing activities for both models are running simultaneously I assume both models will be premiered at the same time. Btw, China gets X1L though.

I'm surprised by how well it turned out to be. After the 2 AT and GT that are either bland or horrendous from every single angle, this is nice to look at! Also like the interior very much.

Not for me of course, so I'll spare the FWD critique, but all in all a great successor to the current one, which's interior I wasn't a fan of.

Can a mod please delete the '2016' in the thread title. @Giannis
And can we please make a rule to NOT have a model year anymore in official thread titles? @admin

I think it's indeed 3 door vs 5 door. I hope so at least, a 3 door X2 should be a sight to behold, because that would be the closest to a 'real' coupe-SUV :D

This X1 is looking much better than I thought it would. Pleasantly surprised. It will find it's buyers in all cities worldwide.

Oh man, Martin, you and your Forester should get a room! ;)

Subaru owners are a very loyal bunch ......my brother is a fan of them too.

The writer's arguments for why BMW's use of FWD is not so bad, made sense. Overall, it is a really attractive package ....I can imagine my sister driving one. I like it much more than the GLA and Q3.

The X2 will again be a family affair so Sport Activity Coupe and 5drs to line up against the X4 and X6. Currently they are working on the next X4 so it will be launched in 2018 that gives the current F26 a shelf life of just over four years. The next one will of course be X3 G01 based so everything won't be mid-life new anymore. The new X3 is one of my favourite up and coming BMWs as is the 5er Gran Turismo which is a real extension of the 7er everything you see and feel in the 7er is interpreted in the same way in the Gran Turismo.

And M Sport Packet.

will the next 5 adopt from the 7? I am currently looking to change one of my cars for another BMW; either a FL 3 series, an X1 or wait for the next 5

Looks like the pig snout it's here to stay. I can't even imagine how large the kidney grill will be in the X7.

Regarding the rest, with it's UKL architecture, it's cheaper to produce, so more profits. And with twin models like the large wheelsbase and X4, virtually identical, more money to be made. Milk them dry!!
