M3/M4 [Official] BMW M4 GTS

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M
BMW M4 GTS Prequalified Customer Selection Process

We can share that a certain percentage of the M4 GTS units being sold in the U.S. will be offered to 'prequalified' customers. Prequalified customers will be well known BMW M enthusiasts with a motorsports background (i.e. former or currently active racer) and owner of an M model (M3, M5) or competing model (AMG GT, 911 GT3, and the like).

Prequalified customers will receive a personalized voucher (see example below) beginning next week (February 15) which can be redeemed at any BMW dealership. Vouchers must be redeemed by April 1, 2016 and are nontransferable.

Dealers can then submit a production number for any customers who redeem their vouchers. The only option will be the paint choice (Frozen Dark Grey Metallic [this paint is limited], Mineral Grey Metallic, Black Sapphire Metallic or Alpine White). Special order BMW Individual paint will also not be available for the M4 GTS.

All cars will be equipped with a roll cage, fire extinguisher and rear seat delete.

No lease programs will be made available for the M4 GTS and the car is not available for European Delivery.

The way this car revs is probably closest I have heard a turbo engine come to a NA engine.

Limited-edition BMW M models are nothing new for the U.S. market, in recent history we’ve seen the E92 M3 Lime Rock Park, X1 Powder Ride, F10 M5 30 Jahre, and the i3 Shadow Sport. Though these may be special cars, for the most part what made them different could just be considered an option package. That’s why the Classic Wines Auction in Portland, Oregon on Saturday night was such a great opportunity to obtain a truly special car for a great cause.

When we talk about special edition BMWs for the rest of the world, we find some amazing cars, some of which are the most high-performance cars BMW has ever made. There was the iconic E30 M3 Sport Evolution, the carbon-fiber infused E46 M3 CSL, and the E90 M3 CRT and track-prepared E92 M3 GTS—all of which were highly coveted by North American BMW enthusiasts.

For the first time ever, a high-performance special-edition model of the M3 or M4 will be available in the United States. The M4 GTS features an innovative water injection system that boosts power to 493 bHP and 442 lb-ft, add in the extensive use of lightweight carbon-fiber, and it can sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. The track ready chassis and unbeatable engine performance ensured a lap time of 7 minutes 28 seconds around the legendary Nürburgring-Nordschleife. This puts it on par with such super cars as the Porsche Carrera GT, McLaren MP4-12C, and Ferrari 458 Italia.

Unfortunately, with the fact that there are only going to be 300 available and that BMW USA will be offering them first through a prequalified customer selection process, the opportunity to get your hands on one is rare. Kuni BMW of Portland, Oregon offered up the first allotment available in the Pacific Northwest for the charity auction that benefited the Metropolitan Family Service, New Avenues for Youth, Friends of the Children-Portland, YWCA Clark County, Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel, and Special Olympics of Oregon.

“What began as a simple wine exchange between friends in 1982 has grown into an annual series of premiere food and wine experiences unparalleled by any other charity fundraising program in the region. Consistently recognized as one of the top ten charity wine auctions in the country by Wine Spectator, the Classic Wines Auction has raised more than $36 million to benefit over 850,000 children and families served by 12 local charities over the past 31 years. By partnering with multiple, local charity partners each year, the Classic Wines Auction provides guests with the opportunity to maximize their charitable contributions while enjoying a top-rated gala experience unlike any other in the Pacific Northwest.”

The BMW M4 GTS was only available for their live auction which was conducted during an amazing five course dinner featuring dishes from some of the best chefs in Portland which was expertly paired with highly-rated wines. Though the desserts were fantastic, the real treat was watching the bidding go as quickly as it did.

Within just moments, the high bid surpassed the $149,000 MSRP before pausing around $180,000. After a little enticing from auctioneer Johnna Wells, the bidding started to creep up again with paddle number 685 finally rising to place the winning bid of $200,000.

The event was a huge success as the Classic Wines Auction raised over $3 million for charity! Thanks to Kuni Automotive CEO Greg Goodwin and BMW USA Area Manager Rich Kumar for providing the BMW M4 GTS, not only did the winning bidder help support a good cause, they will now own a piece of BMW history.

FIRST DRIVE: BMW M4 GTS – Just Add Water

30 years after the original M3, BMW celebrates the birth of one of its most iconic sports cars with this M4 GTS, with a 700 unit limited production. With a 500 PS peak power the stopwatch stops before showing 4 seconds in the 0 to 100 km/h sprint. The most improbable secret: it does so by means of injecting pure water…

BMW went back to “tested but halted technologies” drawer to recover water direct injection which is used for the first time ever on a series production car on this new GTS, a black M4 with a menacing Darth Vader look. Totally becoming as the alter ego M4 is capable to deliver out of this galaxy performances. The explanation comes from Franciscus van Meel, the head of BMW M: “water injection improves performance and reduces consumption on combustion engines.” Simple, isn’t it?

THE HEART OF THE BEAST
fc980cfb8d029b9deb53552e93ed1620.webp

From the outside one could hardly guess that under the boot floor there is 5 liter water tank which is the key to the whole system. No extra battery, no performance increase by means of a 48 volt system … nothing … just water from which engineers take advantage of the its physical quality to extract energy from the environment as it evaporates. The downside is the increased kilos from such tank and liquid content which means added weight to the vehicle, today’s No. 1 enemy of automotive manufacturers in general (and particularly when we’re dealing with sports cars).

The pump supplies water to the injectors at a pressure of approximately 10 bar and the amount of injected water varies depending on load, engine speed and temperature, helping to keep water consumption to a minimum. On hard track driving the water tank has to be topped up every time the GTS is refueled but under normal everyday operating conditions the intervals are much longer, depending on driving style (but even in fast motorway driving, the water tank only needs topping up at every fifth refueling stop). And to prevent system components from icing up in sub-zero temperatures every time the engine is switched off, all the water in the hose system is drained into the tank which in itself is likewise frost proof.

As a base engine BMW used the well-known 3-liter inline 6-cylinder twin-turbo which in this application gets some water injected in the mixture in the combustion chamber. If it is true that the general principle of mixing gasoline and water does not sound like something highly recommended, in this case the water evaporates immediately helping to lower the temperature of the engine in some 25 degrees from the inside, allowing it to work more efficiently (less consumption, lower emissions). On the other hand, it reduces the final compression temperature in the combustion chamber, which also reduces the risk of knock, allowing the turbocharged engine to operate with higher boost pressure and earlier spark timing.

Compared to the normal M4, the M4 GTS engine delivers a 16% higher output (500 PS rather than 431 PS) at 6250 rpm (vs 5500 rpm on the regular M4). Maximum torque is also 10% higher, peaking at 600 Nm (vs 550 Nm) but available on a narrower engine speed range (4000-5500 rpm whereas the M4 peak torque is fully available under the driver’s left foot between 1850 and 5500 rpm). This boosted by water M4 is catapulted to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds (half a second less than the normal M4) and can achieve a top speed of 305 km/h (vs 250 km/h, in both cases electronically restrained). Despite the output upgrade, average consumption equals the one returned by the M4 (8,8 l/100 km).

24 seconds less than the M4, 20 seconds faster than the predecessor M3 GTS, 10 seconds quicker than the Porsche 911 Turbo and a brief 3 seconds off the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 pace.

The use of very lightweight materials such as carbon fiber, aluminum, titanium and stiffness reinforcing polymers – alongside some parts with a more basic design, such as door handles or the center console – have been instrumental to allow the M4 GTS to weigh 1510 kg, shedding 62 kg from its normal weight, which means that each pony is not forced to carry a jokey with more than 3 kg on its back.

ON THE TRACK
In the moment of truth I hop into the very special M4 GTS at the Montmelo circuit, in Barcelona, where it should be possible to realize if indeed water may serve for much more than quench thirst or extinguish fires. A strong suspicion already raised by the car’s Nurburgring hot lap time of just 7m28s… if the number per se doesn’t ring a bell, let’s put it into context: that is 24 seconds less than the M4, 20 seconds faster than the predecessor M3 GTS, 10 seconds quicker than the Porsche 911 Turbo and a brief 3 seconds off the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 pace. Yes, that good.

Straight from the first visual contact the M4 GTS prepares you for what lies ahead, starting with the world’s first application of the organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) technology on the rear lights, which produce a more homogeneous illumination effect and have the ability to trigger individual light modules separately. This tail end can be easily distinguished from that of the BMW M4 Coupe by means of the adjustable (in three positions) carbon-fiber rear wing on the boot lid, the exhaust system with its two pairs of titanium tailpipes here with 80 mm diameter and laser-engraved M logo, framed by a structured rear apron.

The front view is as eye catching as the rest of the car, namely the front grille with M double bars in black and the powerfully sculpted front apron with its trio of large air intakes, the carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) bonnet painted in body color weighing 25% less than an aluminum equivalent. The front end’s weight-minimized splitter is made from lightweight exposed carbon fiber, has a contrasting stripe in bright Acid Orange running along its leading edge and can be set in two positions, for road and track.

0c5da991b6fc2b313d25f4b87c8206ce.webp

The car is equipped as standard with high performance M carbon ceramic brakes (made of carbon-fiber-reinforced silicon carbide) which can be visually distinguished by their gold painted six-piston (front) or four-piston (rear) brake calipers with colored M logo. They are surrounded by large, forged M light-alloy wheels (19-inch at the front, 20-inch at the rear), featuring distinctive star-spoke design in Acid Orange and polished surfacing, contribute to give the M4 GTS its ultimate mean look. By your command.

When you enter the jet fighter like cabin you immediately sense this is a special M4 as you realize the rear seats are gone but also due to the abundant presence of carbon fiber, aluminum and Alcantara wherever you stare at. The M sports steering wheel, likewise covered in exclusive, anthracite colored Alcantara, pays tribute to motor racing and it seems unwilling to let go of the palm of your hand once it grabs it. And then the carbon-fiber bucket seats (for driver and passenger) use a specific construction to enables a very low-set seat surface and with compelling lateral support but reserving the necessary comfort over long distances.

By now it is totally clear it’s going to take a lot of persuading to get me out of this impressive racing machine. Not only am I stuck like a limpet shell in these body molding bucket-seats (featuring six-point harnesses anchored to the behind the seats positioned high strength steel roll bar which are both part of the optional Clubsport Package) but also the engine is on and I am able to fully confirm the prophetic words from the head of the M division: “once you floor the throttle for the first time the titanium sound muffler with leave you with goosebumps“.

At the end of this heartfelt experience there was really only one serious issue with the M4 GTS: all of the 700 units to be produced have already found an owner.

After a first lap to get in friendly terms with the GTS, on the second lap I increase the pace and feel the added commitment from the tires while appreciating the very precise and quick steering action, as the system was adapted to the more ambitious performance envelope (a swivel bearing also allows the use of smaller 9.5 J front wheels – 10,5 J in the rear – and there is no elastic section in the steering column, to create a more direct contact with the driver’s hands. A few more laps down the road and it becomes obvious that the stiffer suspension settings, the new rear differential output shafts (hollow) and the Active M differential (electronically controlled multi-plate limited-slip differential) all conspire to create one of those momentary lapses of reasons when you get to think that only some poor bad career turns prevented you from becoming a racing car legend. From breathtaking acceleration, imperturbable curving skills at unlikely speeds, through to an amalgamation of inextricable ideas which are the leftovers of your reasoning along the 1g plus braking maneuvers at the Montmelo race track, it is difficult to decide what the highlight of the car’s handling is.

At the end of this heartfelt experience there was really only one serious issue with the M4 GTS: all of the 700 units to be produced have already found an owner, a especially passionate driver who values exclusivity but is very keen on close to the limits sensations behind the wheel. But, of course, an affluent customer for whom entering a rarefied atmosphere of 142 000 euros (twice as much what a “normal” M4 is worth) is nothing but a mere formality.

BMW M4 GTS review - more than twice the price of a regular M4, but is it worth it?

The 700 cars will sell due to their rarity. But as for pure value, it's unjustified. You don't get more displacement, and instead you get a more complex system which gives more chances to fail (turbo engine failure rates are much higher than old N/A ones).
Did the 1500hp Chiron, or the 1200hp Koenigsegg, 900hp P1 need water injection turbos? didn't think so. Then why does this? To justify the price eh?

On the other hand, for the same price, an AMG GTS gives you a full V8 that sounds a lot better, is much less stressed, and lets be honest, looks more grown up, classy and valuable.

Then there's the Porsche GT3, which beats it in every category really.

I agree, but making a track weapon out of a "normal" coupe is something like only the guys from M can do ;)

Yeah, they could have added a lager turbo but the water injection is cheaper yet it sounds really cool. :)

Did the 1500hp Chiron, or the 1200hp Koenigsegg, 900hp P1 need water injection turbos? didn't think so. Then why does this? To justify the price eh?

The 1500hp Chiron uses 4 turbos, 2 of which are electrically driven, it has 16 cylinders and 64 valves, 10 radiators/intercoolers and generates 184bhp per litre... If you're worried about complex systems and engine stress/balance/internal friction, the Chiron is not a great yardstick to judge water injection by.

The 900hp P1 generates 191bhp per litre, uses 2 turbos, has a hybrid system using a 324 cell battery mated to an electric motor attached to the engine and gearbox... again if you're worried about complex systems and engine stress, the P1 is not a great yardstick by which to judge water injection.

To be fair the Agera is less complex, it just has a massively boosted twin turbo V8, 230+ bhp/litre... stress? most turbo engines don't know stress like this.

Compared to these cars the GTS's water injection system is sculpture of simplicity.

edit: Add to that one of the other benefits of water injection...

"the effective internal cooling of the combustion chamber reduces the thermal strain on numerous performance-related components. This not only prevents damage to pistons, exhaust valves and catalytic converters, but also reduces the strain on the turbocharger, which is subjected to lower exhaust temperatures."

Lol yeah I should have split that up.
More power but same displacement is cheap and gives more stress to the engine.
The reference to the Chiron and P1 is, BMW are claiming this water injection system is so amazing and technology leading, but it doesn't seem like million dollar hypercars feel it's necessary. And btw, the Chiron has 2 turbos for each 4L V8 which puts out 750hp each, and the P1... Well every Mclaren has a 3.8L V8 from anywhere between 570 to 730PS.

Come on guys. We are talking about cars that cost likes 10 times more than GTS. Those cars are in a different league on all levels.

Lol yeah I should have split that up.
More power but same displacement is cheap and gives more stress to the engine.
As long as the stress level is within the design limit then it is fine. More power from the same displacement = improved efficiency, what do you mean by cheap?

Damn, I truly feel dumber after reading Donnalee's posts.

I only want to add that BMW themselves claim the GTS engine is more reliable than the regular M4 engine because of the water injection system.

Five coolest ways the BMW M4 GTS saves weight
5c2f8a978c860b697aedf3b3b17c52c0.webp

Weight savings is one of the most important aspects of making a performance car. Weight is the enemy of all things automotive related. It makes cars slower, less efficient, handle worse and even ride more uncomfortably. The simple fact of the matter is that the lighter a car is, the better. So when BMW set out to make a hardcore variant of its already might M4, the BMW M4 GTS, dropping weight was one of the first things the Bavarians decided to do.

Typically, dropping weight isn’t all that difficult for a car maker, especially when making a track-oriented sports car like the M4 GTS, as there’s always unnecessary stuff to take out. However, it’s not enough to just take out the back seats and some of the unnecessary tech. No, BMW had to get exotic on us and make something truly special to bring the weight down. So let’s take a look at some of the cool things BMW did to drop weight on the BMW M4 GTS.

5. Back Seat Removal – While taking out the back seat isn’t that special of an idea, as I’m pretty sure Porsche will delete the backseat of a 911 at no extra cost because Porsche is just so kind like that, it’s the way BMW has done it that’s cool. That awesome high-strength steel roll cage in the back looks incredible in that orange and really gives off the vibe that you’re in something vicious.”Sorry, honey, we can’t fit the kids in the back, but I think they’ll fit in the trunk.”

cda85019e8941d0fcecb29a452d046ee.webp

4. Lightweight Seats – The carbon fiber-shell one-piece racing seats in the BMW M4 GTS aren’t just there because they look the business. No, they’re there because they’re very, very light. Have you ever picked up a modern leather seat from a luxury car? They weigh a ton and are some of the heaviest parts of the interior. So switching over to these lightweight buckets helps drop several lbs. They also look flipping sweet and have kick-ass four-point racing harnesses. So they help while also looking badass.

424c2f0b42dcba2bc80a15638c0a7807.webp

3. Lightweight Wheels – Have you seen those wheels? They look fantastic. They’re 20″ at the rear and 19″ at the front and looks so damn cool. They’re lightweight alloy wheels and help reduce unsprung rotational mass, which is very important, in terms of handling and braking, in a high-performance track car like the M4 GTS. Many people have made fun of the orange color, however, I personally like it a lot. The M4 GTS is supposed to be a track monster with nothing held back, no reservations and it’s not supposed to care what it looks like. It’s supposed to be crazy and awe-inspiring, not subtle and sophisticated. Owners aren’t going to be taking their spouses out to dinner at fancy restaurants in the M4 GTS. So it’s supposed to look awesome and silly and these wheels do that while also reducing necessary weight.

72e66147c761635e8304f73f76476692.webp

2. Fabric Strap Door Pulls – One of my favorite bits of any of these hardcore sports cars, whether it be this or a Porsche 911 GT3 RS or whatever else, is the fabric strap door pulls. A plastic door handle weighs about the same as a number 2. pencil, so their being there isn’t going to add any sort of significant weight by any means. However, automakers feel as if they should eliminate any weight they possibly can, even if it’s a gram or two. So out go the plastic door handles and in come fabric door straps. They look silly, strike up conversation and add to the experience of owning a car that compromises any sort of creature comfort in the name of speed (in my best Jeremy Clarkson voice).

a0656a1c193dca951d0a222dfd6d057f.webp

1. Carbon Fiber Aerodynamics – But of course this is the coolest part of the BMW M4 GTS’ weight savings, as its carbon fiber aerodynamics are the coolest part. That massive wing, the simply awesome front splitter and the seriously cool rear diffuser. All are carbon fiber and most are manually adjustable. That’s right, the wing doesn’t go up or down automatically at speed and the front splitter doesn’t have that automatic adjustability that some Porsche’s have. Nope, if you want the wing or splitter moved, you’ve got to get out, get some wrenches and do it yourself. So not only do all of these carbon fiber aero pieces look awesome, but they allow the owner to physically interact with the car, which helps form a bond. It’s like the manual wind on Patek Phillipe. It just feels good to do something to the car yourself. So the carbon fiber aero is easily the coolest weight saving aspect of the BMW M4 GTS.

No doubt a lot of engineering went into the power trains of the above hyper cars, and it provides some impressive numbers, though I'm not sure you've fully grasped the design of the Chiron's W16 engine.

Personally, I like the fact that BMW have taken a this approach. It's elegantly simple, increased thermal efficiency appeals to the physicist in me! But, it's no wonder that something like the Chiron wouldn't use water injection - If you've just spent a couple of million on your Hyper car, I'm sure you wouldn't want the faff of having to top up the water bottle every couple of days - It's a luxury car! The GTS on the other hand, is for people that want to tinker with manually adjustable suspension, and aero bits, they won't mind having to add water.

The BMW M4 GTS gives BMW M GmbH a new and exclusive technological showpiece which elevates the potential of the BMW M4 Coupe to another impressive new level. With its powerful, motor sport-inspired looks and high-performance technology, the BMW M4 GTS has its sights set squarely on the race track. A lap time of 7.28 minutes around the legendary Nürburgring-Nordschleife, the world’s most exacting race circuit, is a clear statement of this special-edition model’s exceptional abilities. At the same time, the sharpest BMW M4 of all – like its BMW M stablemates – can also hold its own on public roads. BMW M GmbH is launching the BMW M4 GTS in a special edition limited to 700 units to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the BMW M3, which has been in production since 1986. In so doing, it is highlighting the innovative flair of the BMW M engineers in developing trailblazing M technologies on the powertrain, chassis and lightweight construction front. The first high-performance special edition in the M3/M4 model range will also be available for the first time in the important North American market.

“Special-edition models like the BMW M3 GT, BMW M3 CSL, BMW M3 GTS and BMW M3 CRT have a decades-long tradition in our mid-size line-up – and that continues with the BMW M4,” says Frank van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH. “They sharpen the character of the BMW M brand and embody an emotionally rich and exclusive driving experience. We’ve taken a radical route with the set-up of the BMW M4 GTS to create a sports machine for the race track that delivers top-end dynamics and inspirational performance. It allows us to demonstrate what is possible today with a road-legal car. Owners can drive their BMW M4 GTS to circuits such as Spa-Francorchamps, the Nürburgring or Laguna Seca – for clubsport events, for example – and then set lap times there that raise the bar to extremely high levels for road-legal cars.”

Performance boost courtesy of innovative water injection.
At the heart of each and every BMW M model is its engine. The BMW M4 GTS uses the multi-award-winning six-cylinder in-line turbo engine from the BMW M3/M4, but adds innovative water injection technology to give the 3.0-litre unit a substantial power boost. The water injection system raises the engine’s output significantly – to 368 kW/500 hp – and increases torque to 600 Nm (442 lb-ft), yet still keeps fuel economy and CO2 emissions at the level of the BMW M4 Coupe (8.5 litres per 100 km* [33 mpg imp], 199 g/km*). This makes the BMW M4 GTS the most agile, radical and dynamically potent model in the range. It races from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a mere 3.8 seconds and hits a limited top speed of 305 km/h (189.5 mph).

Lightweight design extends into the details.

Intelligent lightweight construction allows the BMW M engineers to limit the car’s DIN kerb weight to 1,510 kilograms (ECE kerb weight: 1,585 kg). Its outstanding weight-to-power ratio of 3.0 kg/hp provides the perfect platform for a highly dynamic driving experience. The rigorous weight-saving measures extend through both the interior and exterior of the car. Inside, carbon-fibre bucket seats, a lightweight centre console, the lightweight construction of the rear seat panelling and boot area partition, and special lightweight door and side panel trim, including door pull loops in place of solid door handles, are clearly visible indications of the designers’ commitment to weight-saving. The rigorous application of lightweight design can also be seen in details that are out of view. The instrument panel bracing tube is made from lightweight carbon fibre. And on the outside of the car, the newly designed bonnet, roof and adjustable front splitter are also constructed from carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP). The adjustable rear wing, too, is cut from this light but extremely durable high-tech material. It rests on intricate, CNC-machined aluminium mounts fixed to the CFRP boot lid which likewise demonstrate how every detail, no matter how small, has been honed to minimise weight. Teaming up with the diffuser – again, made from carbon fibre – below the rear bumper, the rear wing optimises the flow of air and reduces lift at the rear axle. The exhaust system has a titanium muffler, which allows a weight saving of 20 per cent. Its emotionally rich soundtrack fits the M profile perfectly and envelops the inside and outside of the car in the ambience of the race track.

Performance-maximising equipment features.
The standard-fitted seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) selects the optimum ratio for every driving situation with no interruption in the flow of power as it makes its way to the rear wheels. The driver can also select gears manually using either shift paddles on the steering wheel or the selector lever. The Drivelogic shift programs and Launch Control have been retuned to the engine’s increased output. The weight-minimised, exclusive M light-alloy wheels in star-spoke 666 M Styling are forged and polished, and come in Acid Orange. They are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres (front: 265/35 R19, rear: 285/30 R20) which are adapted specifically to the BMW M4 GTS and therefore play a role in the car’s outstanding mechanical traction and feedback through corners.

The three-way M coilover suspension specially tuned for the BMW M4 GTS can be adjusted to individual tastes and therefore also to the demands of different race circuits. The lightweight M carbon ceramic brakes offer a well-defined pressure point and ensure outstanding deceleration even under sustained heavy loads, such as at the limit on the race track.

World-exclusive OLED technology, brilliant LED light.

The familiar two sets of twin circular headlights with four corona rings ensure the best possible illumination of the road surface. They combine cutting-edge LED (light-emitting diode) technology with BMW Selective Beam (dazzle-free high beam assistant) and Adaptive Headlights.

The L-shaped rear lights are just as distinctive as the design of the headlights. Indeed, innovative OLED rear lights will make their series-production debut in the BMW M4 GTS. OLEDs (organic light-emitting diodes) are a new kind of light source that light up over their full surface with a very homogeneous effect – unlike LED units, which emit their light in the form of points. The flat design of OLEDs (they measure just 1.4 millimetres in height) and the ability to trigger individual light modules separately open up fresh possibilities for lighting concepts and exudes the presence of exceptional precision. As such, the tail lights underline the width of the rear end, lend the car an even more eye-catching and powerful appearance and ensure it cuts a stand-out figure in both the light and dark.

The interior – focused, exclusive and committed to motor sport.
The carbon-fibre M bucket seats for the driver and passenger stick firmly with the lightweight construction theme inside the pure-bred, exclusive interior. They weigh around 50 per cent less than the sports seats in the BMW M4 Coupe, enable an ideal seating position and offer compelling long-distance comfort to go with their unbeatable levels of support. The exclusive Alcantara/Merino leather seat covering along with M stripes in the backrests, three-point seat belts and door pull loops highlight the profile of the BMW M4 GTS as a high-performance sports machine as well as the car’s standalone character. The M4 GTS is fitted with different bucket-style M sports seats (including lightweight backrests with cut-outs) for the North American market, in line with local registration requirements.

The exclusive material Alcantara is also used for the M sports steering wheel, whose “12 o’clock” marker underlines the racing character of the BMW M4 GTS. In place of a rear seat bench, the BMW M4 GTS features a glass-fibre-reinforced plastic (GFRP) shelf and a rear panel in carbon-fibre sandwich construction. Both are covered in Alcantara, and together they enable a weight saving of around 40 per cent.

The optional Clubsport Package can further enhance the affinity of the BMW M4 GTS with the race track. It includes a roll bar in Acid Orange behind the front seats, a race-specification six-point harness** and a fire extinguisher.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
