iX [Official] BMW iX (i20) [2021-

The BMW iX is a battery-electric mid-size luxury crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by the German automobile manufacturer BMW. It was unveiled in concept form as the Vision iNext at the 2018 LA Auto Show, and then in its production form in November 2020. The iX is BMW's second fully electric vehicle after the i3 in 2013, and the fourth BMW i sub-brand model.
ADAC tests electric autonomy: BMW iX beats Mercedes EQS

Translation in English
Actually, it is obvious that a flat and extremely streamlined sedan like the Mercedes EQS should have a longer range than a large SUV like the BMW iX. When you look at the official manufacturer information, there is no doubt about it, because Mercedes specifies the variant of the electric S-Class with the longest range with an impressive value of “up to 784 kilometers”. In contrast, the "up to 630 kilometers" of the BMW iX xDrive50 seem almost modest - but in practice the picture is apparently reversed, because in the ADAC EcoTest previously cited by the world, the Bavarian apparently lasts longer, although the Swabian is slower to create 150 kilometers more for the paper.

Specifically, the Mercedes EQS 450+ has a practical range of "only" 575 kilometers, which means it misses its official WLTP factory specification by 209 kilometers. What is remarkable, however, is that the span of the promised range in the case of the EQS is also extremely large: Depending on the equipment, the WLTP specification is also “only” 631 kilometers for the EQS 450+. Even in this case, the electric sedan would have missed the promised value by almost 60 kilometers. In comparison, the BMW iX xDrive50 shows how it can work: Depending on the equipment, the electric SUV promises an electric range of 590 to 630 kilometers, in the ADAC EcoTest the independent testers determine an actual practical range of 610 kilometers - exactly in the window of the factory data and at least 35 kilometers better than the value of the Mercedes EQS, which should actually come significantly further.

A look at the technical data of both vehicles shows that the range advantage is not due to the sheer size of the lithium-ion battery: The high-voltage battery of the rear-wheel drive and “only” 333 hp Mercedes EQS 450+ offers a usable capacity of 107 .8 kWh, the BMW iX xDrive50, which is considerably more powerful with 523 hp, comes with a net capacity of 105.2 kWh. When it comes to practical consumption, the BMW is therefore also ahead: the ADAC calculates 20.4 kilowatt hours per 100 kilometers for it, while the Mercedes comes to 21.5 kWh/100 km.

The performance also clearly speaks for the Bavarian: thanks to all-wheel drive and 523 hp, the BMW iX xDrive50 accelerates from 0 to 100 in 4.6 seconds if necessary, the hardly lighter and at the same time significantly weaker Mercedes EQS 450+ with pure rear-wheel drive requires the same exercise 6.2 seconds.
The comparison in the ADAC EcoTest clearly shows which of the two vehicles has the more efficient drive - and you should probably keep the result of this test in mind when the paper values of Mercedes EQS and BMW i7 can be compared in the near future

Does anyone know how these controlled tests account for the variables of aerodynamics and regeneration?

The methodology for the test is here (though in German) https://www.adac.de/-/media/pdf/tet...t-test-und-bewertungskriterien-ab-04_2021.pdf

It's clear they use a different a different cycle for the autobahn test, but this would appear to favour a more Aerodynamic car as it's a longer period at high speed.

There's also a bunch of maths about how they then calculate the figures they quote, but I've not translated that.

Just thinking about drag, going off numbers on google

Cd × Frontal area
EQS 2.51m²×0.2 = 0.502
iX 2.82m²×0.25 = 0.705

~40% more drag for the iX to overcome. This makes the eco test seem more surprising, but....

In terms of pure drag in the real world...

Consider... a scenario: iX heading East on Autobahn, EQS heading West on Autobahn at the same time. Both vehicles are travelling at 80mph, if the wind is blowing at 5mph to the East, the iX and the EQS would be experience about the same aerodynamic drag force.

The iX is clearly a brick, but, I believe the difference that Aero makes in the real world is not as significant as people might imagine. Inertia and rolling resistance also play a big part. The weight difference would also be in the EQS favour here, but much less so.

Just my two cents.

The EQS is not much lighter than the iX.

No, but but mass does affect both rolling resistance and energy required to overcome inertia - both should be in the EQS's favour, even if it's only marginal.

Those crystals do shine on him. For those who did drive an iX , aren't they distracting?

Yes, that part is not in the video because they distracted him so much that he fell off the cliff and couldn't comment on how distracting they were.

Looking for answers to questions that nobody asks, thanks and keep participating

I'm just wondering... You , and other fangirls around here , when someone asks a "disturbing" question regarding your beloved brand and religion (BMW) , can you answer NORMALY?

I'm asking a LEGIT QUESTION. Just click on the video I posted , and in a few seconds you will see what I am talking about. A reviewer from my country did notice the reflections as disturbing.

Is it that hard to stop trolling and give a nice answer? Why must you fangirls keep all the stereotypes alive regarding BMW drivers?

Why when you ask and notice bad things regarding other brands IS FINE , but when someone does the same thing about BMW , is TROLLING/"PARTICIPATING"/blabla

Jesus...Long live the stereotypes

PS: Still waiting for an honest answer. I am curious and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it , unless you are stupid enough...

There are some great tests in youtube from the late 70s and early 80s conducted by the great Paul Frére. One of the first things that he checks for the interiors is if there are any reflections. Then they considered it very important that nothing in the interior blinds you.

Wow man, can't you see I'm kidding? At no time do I disrespect you and you call me a fangirl, troll, and stupid in a single post?

Yours is a stupid question and with a certain malice, once again, out of 100 positive things in the video, your question is about something that is not even commented on in it.

Five years of vehicle development and no one in R&D noticed this that only occurred to you....
Why don't you use the criteria before asking nonsense (always) looking for the cat's fifth leg and instead of insulting

Generally speaking some reviewers have commented on how the crystal finishes are glaring in most BMW with the crystal finish, so I’d guess this would be the case with the iX….luckily this can be solved by just not ticking that option.

Personally I’d tick this option because it makes the cabin more upscale/expensive IMO.

For some yes , for some may consider it bling-bling.

My only question was and remains: Did someone around here drive in in sunlight and find them disturbing?

Pure curiosity. I don't trust Youtubers , especially Parker...

Crystal naturally reflects light. You would think an automotive journalist would know this by now

I must say that I'm liking the iX more...and more...and more:

Most certainly quite the "grower".

I'd really wish to see head 2 head reviews like iX vs Model X done by Harry, his videos are always spot on.

I started to like the iX but only on dark colors, someone in my neighborhood has a white one and its too much in your face. The interior still looks weird and not luxurious enough for 100k car.
