The BMW i8 is a plug-in hybrid sports car developed by BMW. The i8 was part of BMW's electrified fleet and was marketed under the BMW i sub-brand. The production version of the BMW i8 was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and was released in Germany in June 2014. Deliveries to retail customers in the U.S. began in August 2014. A roadster variant was launched in May 2018. Production ended in June 2020.
Yes. Lava Yellow and Java Green are two of my fav colors! For special cars only though, it would be awkward on a 5er.

Leicester City FC owner buys each player a BMW i8

Last season, Leicester City won the Premier League Title in an unexpected upset. For their efforts, each of the 19 remaining players (four left to other teams this season) have received a very special bonus from the team’s owner. Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, owner of Leicester City FC, just recently purchased each of the remaining 19 players their very own BMW i8.

That’s right, each of the 19 players received their own brand new BMW i8. That’s nearly $2.7 million in cars given out to the title-winning players. Admittedly, that’s not too much for Srivaddhanaprabha, as he’s worth around $3.3 billion, making him the 4th richest man in Thailand. Still, forking over $2.7 million in cars to players is a large sum of money.

Each player’s car is painted in Protonic Blue paint, as it matches the team’s uniform color. The BMW i8 packs a 1.5 liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, mated to an electric motor that develops a combined power output of 357 hp. It’s capable of 0-60 mph in as low as 3.6 seconds and can return a combined 76 MPGe, as per the EPA. So it’s an incredibly fast supercar while also being incredibly efficient. And it’s pure EV mode, which allows for up to 15 miles of electric range, makes it an ideal city car heavily emissions-restricted European cities. It also looks flipping amazing.

I’m not positive, but this could be the single greatest bonus for an employee ever. Not only did the players get BMW i8s, but they also go an $8.5 million bonus fund to split up evenly. That’s about an extra $447,000 each, on top of an amazing car. It’s a good time to be a Leicester City player. Really sucks for the four players who decided to join different clubs before this season.

At the the 2016 Paris Motor Show, the new special BMW i8 Protonic Dark Silver Edition will celebrate its official world premiere, bringing into play a new color for the hybrid sports. The Edition model is similar to the Protonic Red Edition because it will be built only for a short period of time and in limited numbers.

Specifically, the current plan is to begin production of the BMW i8 Protonic Dark Silver Edition in December and in early 2017, the time window will close again.

The dark gray color gives the BMW i8 a relatively unobtrusive appearance, even if the futuristic shapes of the Gullwing will, of course, continue to cause a stir. The Protonic Dark Silver Edition has the so-called Black Belt, along with a series of design elements, which are always maintained regardless of the chosen exterior color. So the result for the latest special model is a two-tone appearance that complements the design of the progressive hybrid sportscar.

BMW has yet to communicate whether the special i8 will also sport some interior upgrades, but based on the experience with the Protonic Red Edition, we will likely see some specific elements to the new model.

The powertrain of the BMW i8 remains unchanged, hence the proven combination of 1.5 liter large turbocharged three-cylinder in the rear and an electric motor at the front axle deliver a system output of 362 hp.

Weak sauce. More colours for the i8 is a good thing... attempting to keep the i8 in public focus by making a song and dance about a new colour isn't such a good thing...

BMW i8 Protonic Blue color no longer offered

One of the most striking colors for the BMW i8 is – Protonic Blue is, for now, removed from the online configurator. The eye-catching blue was the launch color for the i8 at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2013 and has been one of fans’ favorites paint jobs for the progressive hybrid. When BMW launched the i8 in 2014, customers had the option to choose between four exterior colors: Ionic Silver, Protonic Blue, Crystal White and Sophisto Grey. The currently available color choices for the plug-in hybrid thus shrunk to only three variants.

Although there is currently no evidence of the expansion of the color palette for the BMW i8, the company continues to offer special paint jobs for limited models. For example, Protonic Red was offered this year on a limited edition i8 and it’s followed by the BMW i8 Dark Silver Edition to be unveiled in Paris at the of this month.

In the UK, customers have more choices. BMW UK will be the first to offer BMW Individual colors for the BMW i8 hybrid sportscar. BMW’s new Individual color collection will be priced upwards of £5,495 in this UK where it will include Java Green, Speed Yellow, Solar Orange, Twilight Purple Pearl, Frozen Grey, Frozen Black, San Marino Blue and Grigio Telesto Pearl, among others.

We’ve reached out to BMW to confirm if the omission of Protonic Blue is temporarily or whether the beautiful color will return in the future.

Funny thing: to me it just doesn't look as futuristic in the red or yellow colour schemes.
It kind of needs those electric blue accents with white, black or silver paintwork or a hue of blue paint to really stand out for me.
