Carbon fibre technology, independent axle 4wd technology, and the styling are the highlights of this car.

The packaging efficiency is horrible. But that's to be expected, the first cellphones were bricks. The engines at either end, whether electric or internal combustion, need to get a lot smaller to justify the elimination of the driveshaft and transfer mechanisms that they facilitate

The horrible packaging I am afraid has nothing to do with the electric part, but comparatively bulky ICE part of the hybrid driveline is to blame. I was at the local Tesla showroom past weekend and they had a bare bone platform and the thing that struck me most is how efficient and simple the thing is -

The simplicity of the whole thing is astounding -
The batteries form the floor, the electric motor occupies the space between the wheels, there is nothing that protrudes into the passenger or luggage compartments (besides wheels of course).
There is virtually no driveline loss. WHP is almost exactly what the motor puts out.
There is almost no maintenance - no oil change, no transmission fluid.

i3 doesn't suffer from the horrible packaging either.

The i8 has a low center of gravity, what is COG of i3 and this Tesla?

BMW claims i8 has the lowest COG of all the BMWs, so I am guessing it is lower than i3. But that is probably more due to fact that rest of i3 is tall and van like. If they made a low sports car based on i3 platform, I bet it would have a lower COG than i8.

On i8? How the heck do you build a ICE and transmission into the floor?

I mean the batteries, at least that's what I think is stored in the central tunnel. Generally batteries are heavy so why haven't they positioned them flat on the floor?

but then you would have a higher seating position, you want to be as low in the tub as possible, with a sports car,

The horrible packaging efficiency comes from having two engines. If they had one engine they would be able to have an adequate trunk. Either in the front or the back. It's a two engine car. Smaller engines in a non performance application will help. This i8, with it's 4.4 s 0-60 and 155 mph top speed is excessive.

I appreciate that and it's probably the lesser of the two evils, until batteries are thin enough this is probably the only option. Oh and yes packaging isn't that efficient and would prove totally impractical in a family car application but this car is pushing the boundaries of what is currently available, I'm sure in the future they will be able to miniaturize everything.

Seriously..stop talking about stuff you know nothing about.
All these people with bold statements shouted from the sidelines..

Scott, who is that? He looks vaguely familiair...

It might be Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini CEO. But I'm not sure. Scott?

Yes Lamborghini CEO , designer and engineer.
I have seen some pictures of Winterkorn and Piech at the i3 looking pissed off.

Front side is not good enough, they could do it better. The rest is great is just front is poking me too much! XD
