3 Series Official: BMW 328 Hommage Concept

The BMW 3 series is a line of compact executive cars manufactured by BMW since May 1975. It is the successor to the 02 series. Since 2013, coupé and convertible models have been marketed as the 4 Series. The M version of the 3 series, the M3, debuted with the E30 M3 in 1986.
And since they have now chosen the proposal for the proposed next generation Z8 (I dont know what it looks like , but I have confidence and admiration for the designer who is proven in this segment.)

Juliane Blasi? :D

After E89 Z4 & Vision ConnectedDrive the new Z8 could be like a cherry on that cake (opus) of hers. :)

So, since the design had got such a positive reception they decided to use it as a real design study as well: therefore the BMW 328 Hommage Concept - made from BMW Vision ConnectedDrive Concept vessel.

So then it's less of a modern rethink of the 328 (which would be a true homage) and more of a Vision ConnectedDrive Mk. 2 with some vague design details of past BMW models to drum up some publicity for BMW's presence at Concorso d'Eleganza.

I suppose it's not really a sin, but something about it doesn't sit right with me.

^ Don't you think Vision ConnectedDrive is a modern 328? To me it looks like exactly like that. :)

The only hommage parts on 328 Hommage are the side straps / belts, the big single round headlights & the vertical grille.

Yes. They are working on a 2002 Hommage which will segue into the next 1er Coupe.

And since they have now chosen the proposal for the proposed next generation Z8 (I dont know what it looks like , but I have confidence and admiration for the designer who is proven in this segment.)

So expect a Hommage for that car sometime in the next two years.

After 2015. For BMW the floodgates will open in regards to the Premium segment. Meaning additional models to sustain the upper premium segment for BMW. Up until 2015 it is the Compact City , Premium Compact and Premium entry classes that rank the most important segments in the industry. And BMW is well advanced with that strategy.

That would entail the new 7er Gran Coupe and the Z8, right?.

At first this looked like a joke to me, it's the face xOx ..u know, that face you type on MSN when you are surprised or shocked by something.. it nearly looks funny. but then it is a nice showcase of how BMW can quite easily go back to vertical grilles with their current concept designs.. it's pretty cool but i think only the Z8 can afford something this "radical" despite being the tradition of the old times.

Most of the ideas though exist on paper and in our heads as of the current time. But in regards to the sub-brands they want to make full use of the two BMW sub-brands BMWi and BMW M.
Of course BMWi has two stand alone products on the way mainly the i3 and i8.

But with BMW M we are looking at doing something similar to the i3 and i8.
Its not that there will be M variants of the i3 and i8 , far from it but it is being investigated to follow the idea of offering a stand alone M product completely seperate from the BMW brand - meaning not an M model of an existing BMW but something which is stand alone exclusive BMW M.
Interestingly enough the strategy is called M-one.

Of course there is many directions in which to take this concept such as a bespoke lightweight body and interior applied to the chassis and Turbocharged six cylinder engine of an M3? or the V8 from the M6.
As I said nothing is final just ideas. But the rival pool is considered - Porsche 911 , Audi R8 and Mercedes-Benz's approaching SLC.

Which could bring costs down further and further expand the use of the new modular platform for the F20 and F30 by applying the structure for mid, rear or front placement of the engine.
Two models are on the drawing board a Roadster and a Coupe and could possibly be derived from the design ideas of the Vision Connected Drive/328 Hommage concept.

If you look at three years ago and the BMW M1 Hommage. You see the progress of design elements in both the M1 and the Vision Connected Drive/328 Hommage. There is progress but you see that bloodline and the kinship between the two.

BMW M will be the first port of call after BMWi for extensive sharing of CFRP and the BMW 328 Hommage and the BMW M3 Evo Sedan are fore runners of possibilities for the future.

Material Technology is something being tested extensively at BMW M. Although a project exists to show something within the next twelve months of a vision based on a current model. It will not be a static concept as BMW intend to show how serious the future will be in terms of lightweight material technology by presenting a full release of statistics and performance figures.

Sounds like BMW has liked what AMG has done with the SLS.

What´s the SLC BTW?.

Can't wait for the next M cars, that are M3 F32, M2 F22, M One and of course the M3 CSL Concept (E92) with performance figures: 1300 kg (DIN), 0-100 km/h in 3,8 sec and N-Ring in 7:30 min ?

Sure I don't know the figures, but they will be very impressive. That is also why the M3 CSL will not go into production: It will cost as a 911 GT2 RS and only be able to beat a 911 GT3 RS.

BMWs' latest concept roadsters leave me immensely enthusiastic with regard to the companys' future design language. IMHO, an extremely well executed fusion of the current design signature with innovative, forward-thinking modernistic elements. Especially the side sculpturing with the accentuated shoulderbone theme and the pronounced sills-exquisite. I'm also loving the rear end/taillamp design.

The front (kidney and lights) is growing on me more and more!

I guess I'm one of the VERY few who doesn't think this is anything special. Nothing in this design excites me. It's nice, but that's as far as I'll go.
