Mulsanne [Official] Bentley Mulsanne

Bentley Mulsanne forum covering all generations. Discuss flagship luxury sedans, modern Bentley craftsmanship, historical developments, specifications, ownership experiences, restoration, and Bentley heritage.
I like it, and it's a much nicer looking car than the Phantom, however I find it similar to the Ghost in a sense, where it's a very nice and clean, if not soft and classy design, not nearly as gaudy or even hard on the eyes as the Phantom or Drophead can be, yet on the flip side, doesn't have nearly the charisma or character or presence (I've seen a Mulsanne IRL and barely noticed it aside from the big size, and the Ghost practically blends into a crowd) of the mentioned other two. I feel the Mulsanne and Ghost are for those who want the qualities of a high price tag, but want to go relatively unnoticed, while the Phantom, and especially the ungainly Drophead, are for those who want to wear the price tag on their sheetmetal.

Also, the chrome B-Pillars somehow just don't work on the car. My eyes instantly perceive them as those ghetto and cheesy chrome pillars you see on 300's and hooptied out Benzes, etc.

Also, when I look at the Mulsanne's profile, I see a lot of true bred Mercedes-Sedan language and DNA designed in.

Bentley To Replace Mulsanne V-8 With W-12

Former Bentley CEO Franz-Josef Paefgen was never a fan of diesel, and it appears Rolls-Royce isn’t either, however, Volkswagen Group dynamo Wolfgang Dürheimer, who was brought in back in 2010 to oversee Bentley’s expansion into the world of SUVs and advanced powertrains, does see a future for diesel in ultra-luxury vehicles. He’s hinted at the launch of a diesel Bentley on several occasions, as well as more advanced plug-in hybrid models, and in a recent interview has reaffirmed those intentions.

With his plans set in place at Bentley, as well as Bugatti, which he was also in charge with for a brief period, Dürheimer is now heading things up at Audi’s research and development department, focusing particularly on the area of plug-in hybrid technology. However, during a recent interview with Car and Driver he spilled some of the beans on Bentley’s future plans.

Dürheimer has revealed that a diesel option will be offered on the upcoming Bentley SUV based on the EXP 9F concept vehicle, as well as on the next-generation versions of the Mulsanne and the Continental Flying Spur, the latter of which is already in testing. It turns out the addition of a diesel has helped sales for other luxury marques, such as Porsche, particularly in Europe.

Expect Bentley's first diesel to be a variation of one of Audi’s current V-8 turbodiesel units. The Volkswagen Group’s popular V-6 TDI is probably too plebeian for Bentley, while an existing V-12 TDI offered in the Audi Q7 overseas is set to be phased out due to low demand and stricter emission rules coming into play in the near future.

As for the legendary 6.75-liter gasoline V-8 found in the Mulsanne, Dürheimer said that it will be replaced by a 12-cylinder engine when the next-generation of the Mulsanne is launched. He explained that Bentley is now the center of competence for 12-cylinder engines in the Volkswagen Group and that the marque’s flagship model can’t have fewer cylinders than its entry-level offerings.

So they are going to wait til the next generation to replace the V8 with the w12, that is what at least 6 years away, or are they now calling the face lift model a 'new generation'

Paint just looks richer on the Mully. Stunning.

He is nutts:D

I realized just now that this car has a V8...
I thought it was a W12... a V8 is not worthy for such a car!

The 6.75L V8 goes a long way and is the pride and joy of Bentley - more so than the W12 ever is, which is largely a VAG creation.

I trust you guys and I admit I'm not much familiar with Bentley's history and use of engines but I hear Flying Spurs and CGTs starting up almost every single day where I live and that W12 sound is phenomenal... way better than that V8!!!
Here comes the question... why have it in the entry-level model and not in the high-end one and I'm not talking about power but smoothness, feel and sound :)

MULSANNE LE MANS LIMITED EDITION MAKES NORTH AMERICAN DEBUT AT PEBBLE BEACH

Continental Range of Le Mans Limited Edition models on display

1931 Bentley 4½ Litre Supercharged Le Mans headlines a series of vintage Bentleys to be auctioned during the Monterey Classic Car Week

(Pebble Beach, 13 August 2013). The past meets the present for Bentley this year as California's Monterey Peninsula is primed for a week of the world's most coveted historic automobile displays and events. Bentley continues to celebrate the 90th Anniversary of the Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race, as it debuts the Le Mans Limited Edition Mulsanne. This model complements the Continental range of Le Mans Limited Edition models which are available exclusively to North America.

"2013 is the 90th Anniversary of the first Le Mans 24 Hours race, in which Bentley was the only British marque to participate, and also the 10th Anniversary of the most recent win for the Speed 8 in 2003," said Christophe Georges, COO of Bentley Motors America. "Pebble Beach, for us, is the ideal place to debut and display our Le Mans Limited Edition Mulsanne model and to showcase our flagship vehicle in its Limited Edition livery to a very knowledgeable audience of automotive enthusiasts and Bentley owners from around the world."

The Le Mans Edition specifications are a blend of sportsmanship and heritage matched to the highest standards of technology and craftsmanship. The specifications, each inspired by a driver from Bentley's six victories at the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours race, will feature diamond-quilted hide seat covering, diamond-quilted hide door panels, drilled alloy foot pedals, sports tuned suspension and steering, 'Quad' Effect Tailpipe Finishers and two-piece five spoke dark tint alloy wheels.

The iconic Bentley Blower and the 2003 Le Mans winning Speed 8, along with its driver Guy Smith, join Bentley at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering on Friday. The Flying Spur, Bentley's new luxury four door sedan and the Continental GT Speed, Bentley's fastest production model ever, will also be on display at this exclusive gathering set upon the rolling greens of The Quail Lodge and Golf Club.

Following its world debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, Bentley will present the Continental GT3 race car at The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion held at the Laguna Seca Raceway. The car, together with members of the Bentley Motorsports team, will be on display in the Laguna Seca Raceway paddock from Friday 16th to Sunday 18th August. Following this appearance, the Continental GT3 will continue its programme of developmental track work ahead of the planned return to competitive racing in 2014.

Auctions of Vintage and Classic Cars

Pebble Beach is renowned for its car auctions and the highlight of the series of vintage Bentleys to be auctioned during the week is the 1931 Bentley 4½ Litre Supercharged Le Mans. This car is one of only three Original Le Mans Specification production Supercharged cars built and it is perhaps a quirk of fate that this car is to be auctioned at the same time as the new Le Mans Limited Edition debuts in the United States.

In 2013, the following classic Bentleys are being auctioned, including some of the most significant Bentleys in the marque's history.

Makes me wonder, is it psychological indoctrination or is it just fact that British Racing Green always works perfectly on British cars? Was the car made for the color or the color made for the car...
