Bentley Reveals Europe-Exclusive Mulsanne Birkin Edition

Bentley has just revealed a unique version of its Mulsanne flagship, one that is aimed specifically for the European market. Taking its name from one of the original Bentley Boys, Tim Birkin, the Mulsanne Birkin is a limited edition model of which only 22 will ever be built.
It’s available in three color variants called Ghost White, Damson and a two-tone combination of Fountain Blue and Dark Sapphire.

Naturally, this will not be the only aspect that sets this apart from regular Mulsannes and the first thing that comes to mind here are the unique numbered plaques on the door sills, special 21-inch rims that bear a strong resemblance to the original concept car, plus 3D Flying B logos embossed in the headrests and some of the wood trim of the front fascia; the rear wooden picnic tables get it too…

Bentley will also throw in a custom luggage set with each of the 22 cars, though, to be fair, while it does look good and is perfectly designed to occupy all of the trunk space available, you might come off as a bit of a pompous snob if you actually use them…

In terms of tech and gadgets, Bentley's release reads: “The Entertainment Specification offers a luxurious and comfortable space to work or relax (in the back) while on the move. Each car features exquisitely-packaged twin 8" LCD screens in the rear of the seat headrests, a DVD player, a Wi-Fi hotspot, the Naim for Bentley premium audio system and iPads integrated into the hand-crafted solid wood picnic tables.”

Bentley Mulsanne with 550 bhp heading to Paris Motor Show
Debuting early October
Bentley CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer has indirectly confirmed a more powerful Mulsanne will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show.

Talking to Auto Express at the Goodwood FoS, Bentley's CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer hinted at a high-performance Mulsanne which would fit with the company's "sporting luxury" image. It will follow the footsteps of the recently introducedContinental GT3-R and is expected to come out at this year's Paris Motor Show programmed for October.

The hotter Mulsanne will likely retain the twin-turbo 6.75-liter V8 engine but its output will increase from the series 505 bhp (377 kW) to somewhere in the region of 550 bhp (410 kW) which should decrease the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint time to less than 5 seconds taking into consideration the stock model needs 5.3 seconds before topping out at 184 mph (296 km/h).

The standard car weighs 2,585 kg (5,700 lbs) but the more potent version will likely go through a weight reduction as seen in the aforementioned Continental GT3-R which lost 100 kg (220 lbs). There should also be some chassis tweaks for what will likely end up being a limited-run model.

The car is cool but man that luggage is sexy, luggage porn, you'd feel like a king wheeling that through any airport.

Next thing for me is that the Mulsanne is crying out to be turned in to a Brooklands Coupe.

Bentley Mulsanne Speed officially unveiled
Comes with an upgraded V8 engine
Bentley has announced the new and sportierMulsanne Speed, joining the company's model range.

Designed to deliver the “the fastest ultra-luxury driving experience in the world”, the British car will be available in four new exterior colors – Spectre, Candy Red, Camel and Marlin. A dark tint finish is applied to the radiator grille, lower bumper grilles and wing vents. Also offered are a set of new 21-inch wheels, available in painted, polished and dark tint with machined accent finishes.

Moving inside the cabin there are new trims, colors and veneers, as well as diamond quilting for the seats and door panels, special drilled pedals and a new indented headlining.

Bentley has equipped the luxury vehicle with an upgraded 6.75-liter V8 engine, generating 537 PS (395 kW) and 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft) of torque. The reengineered power plant propels the Mulsanne Speed from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in only 4.9 seconds with a top speed of 305 km/h (190 mph).

The unit benefits from a cylinder deactivation system that allows it to run as a V4, resulting in CO2 emissions reduced from 393 g/km to 342 g/km. The V8 is mated to a revised 8-speed automatic gearbox with S mode for a quicker engine response.

The producer has also included a more driver-focused Sport driving mode that “stiffens the all-round air suspension for improved body control and adjusts the steering dynamics for greater feedback and accuracy”.

Bentley chairman and chief executive Wolfgang Durheimer comments that “the new Mulsanne Speed is the car that defines Bentley, as a flagship for driving luxury performance”. The vehicle “is distinguished, calm and relaxing”, but “always with a connection to the road and relentless dynamic performance on demand”.

The Mulsanne Speed will be fully unveiled at the Paris Motor Show on October 2 and will be available for customer delivery this winter. Prices start at around 315,000 EUR (252,200 pounds).

2015 Bentley Mulsanne Speed
Stuck in the slow lane in a car named Speed.

Traffic, like life, moves slowly in America’s retirement capital. Maybe it’s that retirees are free of commitments, or it’s a subconscious attempt to delay the inevitable, or maybe everyone just dawdles lest they show up for dinner before the restaurant opens. Whatever the cause, Florida’s slow-motion transit means that while you can buy a $342,000, 190-mph sedan, even the truly wealthy can’t buy time. These are the profound insights you ponder while making the single-file march through the Florida Keys at 10-mph below the limit in a car named Speed.

The 2015 Bentley Mulsanne Speed, with its 530 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of torque, would prefer to move much faster. That torque figure is second only to that of the Bugatti Veyron (until you start counting heavy-duty pickupsand niche supercar builders like Koenigsegg), yet neither is the monotony entirely unrepresentative. A sedan like this will inevitably spend a significant portion of its life slogging through the sprawl as it connects the heliports to the marinas in the world’s wealthiest, most urbane cities.

The Mulsanne Speed owes its big output to an engine that’s energetic even if it is nearing retirement age. Like the enduring Chevrolet small-block, Bentley’s 6.8-liter V-8 has roots in the 1950s and to this day retains architectural ties, such as the bore spacing and the pushrod-actuated valvetrain, to the original engine. Over many decades of development, though, this eight-cylinder has also sprouted modern features like two turbochargers, a variable-valve-timing cam phaser, and the ability to run on four cylinders to save fuel. The 2015 Mulsanne Speed introduces new cylinder heads, improvements it shares with the standard Mulsanne. Tuning differences give the Speed its extra 25 horsepower and 59 lb-ft of torque.

Bentley engineers say that the Speed’s 811 lb-ft of twist is almost enough to slip the tires around the wheels they’re mounted on. That’s a problem we last heard about while driving the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, a road-legal race car that wears tires molded from Krazy Glue. There is ample torque to smoke the Dunlops on the rear-drive Bentley, but the electronically massaged throttle tip-in and the gentle squeeze of the long-travel brake pedal would rather facilitate graceful transitions; heaven forbid someone in the back seat spills the champagne. Flatten the right pedal and the rear end squats on its 21-inch wheels, the nose rises like a speedboat’s prow, and the $3330 Flying B hood ornament becomes the rifle sight guiding your trajectory. At the low 4500-rpm redline, the eight-speed automatic slides into the next gear as trainlike momentum builds.

Bentley claims the Speed is 0.3-second quicker to 60 mph than the standard Mulsanne; we estimate that the Speed will do the deed in 4.7 seconds. Its standout attribute, though, is not so much how quickly it moves, but how unremarkable speed feels from behind the steering wheel. We saw 160 mph when a little-used airstrip presented 10,500 feet of traffic-free runway. The speedometer was the only indicator that we’d broken into triple-digit velocities.

This is the first Mulsanne to offer carbon-fiber trim to complement the sea of quilted, perforated, and hand-stitched leather that wraps the cabin. Yet at roughly 6000 pounds, nothing about the Mulsanne Speed is lightweight. In the Sport setting, the air springs and the adaptive dampers are slightly stiffer and the hydraulic steering a touch heavier than in the standard mode, although the Speed retains the isolation to make a pothole feel like a dimple. In fast corners, the Bentley leans on its tires and suspension with a solid, stable feel.

Bentley tells us that the distinction between a Mulsanne owner and a Mulsanne Speed buyer is that the former is more likely to be a passenger while the latter is apt to drive his own car. That hasn’t stopped the Brits from lavishing luxuries on the rear-seat passengers. Our $407,235 test car came equipped with a $10,970 champagne cooler and a trio of crystal Bentley flutes, plus $28,760 worth of entertainment equipment, including a 20-speaker Naim sound system, video monitors in the backs of the front-seat headrests, and picnic tables that motor up and out to reveal an iPad and a Bluetooth keyboard.

The Mulsanne Speed’s identity is a dichotomy; it’s a purpose-built chauffeured ride on one hand and a decent driver’s car on the other. It’s definitely not a sports car nor even a sports sedan. The Mulsanne Speed is simply more: more power, more torque, more exclusivity, and more money. The only thing it can’t offer? More time.

Bentley Mulsanne Majestic launched in Qatar

image.webp

Bentley has quietly launched the Mulsanne Majestic in Qatar.

Inspired by royalty, the limited edition model has an Ivory‎ exterior with a single Saddle fine line. The sedan also has "Majestic" badging and 21-inch alloy wheels.

The cabin comes nicely equipped with Magnolia leather seats, dark tan carpets and black privacy curtains. Other notable highlights include wood trim, two leather-wrapped cushions and iPads for rear seat passengers. The car also has illuminated sill plates, a refrigerator and frosted glasses as well as crystal flutes.

In a statement, Bentley's regional VIP and Special Sales Manager Trevor Gay said “The Mulsanne Majestic is inspired by our customers’ strong understanding of traditional royal values and the strong family unit. The ideal of Majesty is well received here and links perfectly to one of the most luxurious and unique models we've ever built." He went on to say "This is an extremely limited edition, which will appeal to Bentley enthusiasts who demand the highest standards in luxury and performance from their cars, but who also want exclusivity and grandeur.”

Bentley Mulsanne LWB spied for the first time
Could be offered exclusively in China

The Bentley Mulsanne lineup continues to grow as our spies have snapped the first photos of a long-wheelbase variant.

Caught testing in the distance, the Mulsanne LWB has a familiar design but adopts a thick B-pillar that is rumored to add approximately 200-250mm to the length of the car. The additional room will benefit rear seat passengers as the long-wheelbase variant is intended to be a chauffeur driven model.

Little else is known about the car but it will reportedly be offered exclusively in China. This strikes us as a bit strange considering both the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class and Rolls-Royce Phantom LWB are offered in a variety of markets.

Regardless, the Mulsanne LWB is expected to be powered by a 6.75-liter V8 engine that produces 505 bhp (377 kW / 512 PS) and 1020 Nm (752 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the standard Mulsanne to accelerate from 0-60mph in 5.1 seconds, so expect the long-wheelbase variant to be a few ticks slower.

The proportions of the current model are so good ....it'll be interesting to see how this turns out.

From the pictures it doesn't look like a huge extension .....enough for a divider and reclining seats.

I think the EWB Ghost looks even better than the standard wheelbase.

Its like a sandwich. The car cut in half (Bread) and a central piece (the filling) inserted.
But they forgot to cut off the crusts. ;)
