A8/S8 [Official] Audi S8 - Arrives With Subtle Style, 563 HP Twin-Turbo V8

What do you guys think is the ratio of private to business customers for the A8?

This new S8 is so plain Jane, it could be a standard A8 with the S-line package fitted and blackened grill. The previous S8 was a Lola Astanova in comparison.

Here in Germany, I would guess that >80% of new Audi A8 registrations are from business customers.

In general, the so-called "Luxusklasse" (i.e. M-B S-Class, BMW 7er, Audi A8, Porsche Panamera) constitutes a very small percentage of new car registrations. It's the upper-executive segment of cars (M-B E-Class, BMW 5er, Audi A6) that are registered in high numbers-also the large majority of which being business vehicles.

No way. Pass. The proportions are terrible and the chrome makes it worse.

The German luxury car makers are putting out news cars with shocking speed now. My goodness. You're going to need a entire book to attend Frankfurt this year.

Is this a bubble? Like on the Bentley thread VAG wants to pull the plug since no one wants to buy ultra luxury variants of cars... could that trickle down?

Best Audi S8 to date in my opinion...

Bentley Motors now finds itself on a steady path towards financial rehabilitation-now that the largest portion of WLTP-related woes have been resolved. The Continental GT/GT Cabriolet is selling well-and the new Flying Spur is commanding an abundance of positive attention. A PPE-platformed BEV car (speculated are either a 4 door sedoupe or some sort of low-ride height shooting brake-style crossover) is planned and placed for presentation in 3-4 years time. VAG now appears committed to the brand and Bentley is becoming increasingly intertwined with Porsche (Porsches' Leipzig production facility an integral element pertaining to the bodies-in-white for Conti GTs').. Hence, they appear quite safetly situated under VAGs' wing, as far as I can detect. For the time being anyway.

I wonder what royalties Bentley has to pay to Porsche for the platform. It is very possible that all the profit goes to Porsche.

I mean the Bentayga was not enough of a success over its life, even after the V8 was added. We also know that the Mulsanne sales are dismal compared to RRs. I’m also going to go on a limb and say that the last gen FS did not sell as well as the first gen FS. That said, I am not sure how Sales in China were over the same period so I will hold my judgement.

It won’t be a big seller. But for those who’d enjoy a low key car that is discrete, but drives like a dream, this would be it. A supple ride, four wheel steering to make it a doddle to maneuver and excellent driver assistance tech with that wonderful V8 all thrown into the mix. The kind of car you can visit clients as an entrepreneur without them thinking you’re making too much money off of them ;)

Yeah 20 years ago maybe. These days everybody with three braincells knows an S8 or A8 is just as expensive as an S class.

LOL, not sure where you live, but this is not the car you visit and enterpreneur with. This is just a less interesting alternative to the cars the A8 competes with. It tries to offer the same an S-Class, a 7er, XJ, Lexus LS and the likes offer. A boat with big space in the back seats and a private driver on the behind the steering wheel.

I think that I've actually seen more current-gen Bentley Continental GTs' than D5 A8s' in Hamburg traffic more recently.

Erm, actually a 1 year old A8 retails for almost half an equivalent 1 year old S Class in South Africa.....

You miss the point completely. And there are no private drivers in SA unless you are a politician.

Really? I wonder why... LOL

Because there was no point. Just a random praise to a car that is the best at nothing. I encourage you to travel and see the usage people give the A8, which is exactly the same the one MB intends for the S-Class. The only difference is the Audi is a screwed design that only get purchased for private drivers who do not want to spend what an MB costs.

I know several customers so faithful to AUDI that they would buy the A8/S8 over the S Class even if the AUDI is two times worse than the Merc. This relation started in the 00s when we had the D3 and the W220 on the market. The D3 was almost a must for every self-esteem customer, because it was superior in almost every way.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
