2014 Audi S1 and S1 Sportback officially launched with 231 HP

quattro comes standard
Following two teaser clips and some leaked photos, Audi has fully revealed the 2014 S1 and S1 Sportback which will receive their proper unveiling in March at the Geneva Motor Show.

Available in both three- and five-door versions, the range-topping A1s come with a slightly more aggressive body highlighted by beefier bumpers and side sills, along with a rear wing and a quad exhaust.

Matching the bold appearance is a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter TFSI engine delivering 231 HP (170 kW) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) to the quattro all-wheel drive system which enables both models to reach a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). The S1 will need 5.8 seconds to complete the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run while the S1 Sportback will be 0.1s slower due to the slightly increased weight coming from the rear doors.

The vehicles ride on 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped around in 215/40 R17 tires but can be optionally configured with larger 18-inch rims shod in 225/35 R18 rubbers. Other features include xenon plus headlights combined with LED taillights, 310mm front disc brakes with red calipers featuring the S1 logo, as well as optional exterior and interior quattro styling packages to enhance the look.

Inside the cabin Audi has opted for a black theme combined with dark gray scales for the instruments, brushed stainless steel pedals along with standard sport seats or optional S sport seats featuring built-in head restraints.

The 2014 Audi S1 and S1 Sportback are slated to go on sale in the second half of the year and in Germany will carry a starting price of 29,950 EUR and 30,800 EUR, respectively.

Additional details can be found in the press release area.

That's the problem with today's over-photoshoped press pictures. How do we know if it's official yet? This could be a render as well... :banghead:

I like it. Spunky little thing. What's that colour scheme called? Banana split?

Hole fu*k!!

I think I need a diaper.

I didn't think it was possible, but it actually looks better then the A1 Quattro!!

Ι wonder if it will redefine the hot-hatch segment, a segment that was formed by the Clio RS, Fiesta St and their likes. BMW's top-of-the-line 1er hatch tried hard, but ultimately failed to redefine the hot-hatch as an RWD premium product. The A45 AMG also tries but it's too soon to tell. Maybe with the S1?

I doubt it. I prefer small hatches to be simple affairs. This S1 has too many bells and whistles such as 4x4 (and therefore heavy) to be a "proper" hot hatch as far as I'm concerned.

Same here, but as S1 is something different to the typical hot-hatch definition, it's still interesting to see how it will go.

For me, the very definition of the hot-hatch is the 3rd generation Clio RS. Not that fast, but fun as hell to drive and with a proper N/A engine.

I hear you haven't tried the new Fiesta ST yet. It's fun with excellent steering, manual gearbox and comes with a rewarding engine.

Its the same engine then. I spotted a Polo WRC the other day, cool looking car but the VW need a new Polo. The current one is getting dated. I've never been a fan of A1 but wouldnt mind test drive a S1.

Polo is getting dated? R U kidding ;)

Anyways...this S1 is freaking hot, and 220 hp is crazy for such a small car! Do want!
Scrap that, 231 hp it appears. As much as an old BMW 3.0 I6.

I really really like this little rocket.

BUT, one thing buggs me. Audis is so excited about this car, as it is an RS. Plus, the styling is very aggressive for being an S-model. The S-models are mostly sleepers. I mean, they even put an RS-bumper on it?

They seem to be over excited about it. I mean, we already have the A1 Quattro, which is even more powerful, and cooler. So, Audi, aren't you a little lost now? It's an S1 , not an RS1!

Having said that, I still love this car.

P.S. I see that also a 3 door version has been presented. It should be a little faster then the Sportback variant?

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
