A5/S5/RS5 [Official] Audi RS5

The lease on my BMW 335 coupe comes due in about a year..

At this point I am choosing the Audi RS5 as my next car mainly because it looks twice as nice as a M3 and it is more exclusive..

I know people will say it is subjective... but I don't care.. The RS5 looks way sexier than the M3 IMO.

Where I live every time I am with someone and they see a S5 they ask me what it is... M3 gets does not stand out.. I can only imagine how much attention the RS5 will get as it has not crossed the Atlantic yet..

I don't plan to track the car, mainly just drive it around the city..

My only other option would be a 2012 CLS AMG, however I would need a large bonus in the next year to make that possible..

If anyone knows, I would imagine the Sports Exhaust option would be worth it?? Is the purpose of this just an enhanced exhaust note???

We shall see![/QUOTE

If you live in the states your going to have to wait till late 2012 for the rs5 right around the time the a5/s5 facelift will arive in our shores I stuggle with putting off till then to getting a new car for that is my main choice.

uhhhh. Late 2012?? I was thinking late 2011 or early 2012? I am in Canada so it will be here the same time...

Decisions decisions...

I would go for the sports exhaust. There is already a good sound without but this car is just meant to be a little louder than the sedate S5. You can of course vary the sound by staying in anything other than Dynamic:banana:

As far as I know..it is for the sound. With 450 bhp on the tap already without, I doubt that the sports exhaust will make too much difference in performance.

Problem with this car is supply. Ordered in late Sept and suppose to be manufactured in mid Nov for a late Jan delivery date. Seems it missed the mid Nov slot due to supply issue and will now arrive mid Feb.

Supply issues? How many of these things are made?:t-banghea

Well, an update on the above...seems the car should have been manufactured mid Nov 2010. It has been delayed now to mid Jan 2011 so a two month delay. :t-banghea

Great News!

Post some pictures when you get it..

Fingers crossed it actually arrives when they say and the ship doesn't get hijacked along the way!! And yes, will definitely stick the pictures here.:usa7uh:

What options did you get and what colour???

The RS5 has the exclusivity and looks the M3 can't match!

My have you guys been busy? I haven't been here for over a year now. It took me 4 days to read the 400+ posts in this thread. Well I must say I'm a little disappointed in the RS5 to be perfectly honest with you guys. No I haven't driven it but if journalists are saying it's missing that extra something that the M3 has then why bother? An S5 can do just fine if that's the case. I really wanted this car to be more than what it turned out to be.

It does look better than the M3 though that's for sure but the M3 is a very good looking car as well. Grant it the levels of performance that both cars can achieve won't be attained by me because I don't track at all as do most of the owners of these cars. But with that being said, the car makers should know that and make their cars "talk" to the driver without having to be at 8/10's-10/10's to feel what you paid for. Anyone can make a fast car. Only a few can make a special car.

The RS5 to me came a day late and a dollar short. The hype in this segment is over. The A5 is due for a facelift soon and the RS5 might look dated so to speak. There aren't many articles on these cars anymore and it's almost as if the "ok" reception by the press made it DOA. This car should've easily beat the M3. There is no excuse for it not to as it had the advantage of being built 3 years after the M3. I think it is unacceptable on Audi's part.

Because of this I'm going to sit this one out. I'll read posts and watch pics as members receive and post on their experiences but I don't think I'll get one. I do need an AWD vehicle and after the lease on my M3 is up I'm going to get a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. I've just taken an interest in off-roading and will be heading in that direction next. I still have my Ducati 1098S for some thrills. I'm also used to the speed of the M3/C63/RS4-5/IS-F and need something quicker. After the Jeep is paid for I might consider a 911 Turbo. I'm sorry guys but I'm just really turned off by the car as good as it looks.

The straight line performance doesn't match the other cars in the class and the fun factor is just not there. It might be Audi's best attempt but they still have some work to do. I'm also tired of NYers not giving a crap about other people's cars and I'm constantly worried about who is scratching my car or putting a dent in it or something. I mean you eventually have to park somewhere right? With this Jeep and a 6" lift and metal bumpers I will join the NYers who don't give a crap too.

Good post, but I just can't see the RS5 looking dated any time soon.. It will turn heads even it A5 is restyled..

As far as performance goes around a track they are so close.. I think due to traction the Audi is slightly faster but in the real world it makes little difference.

Me being in the type of climate I live in the AWD is huge, and as I said the exclusivity and looks of the RS5 is vastly superior to M3..

The only thing that remains to be seen is what price point the vehicle comes in at.. If it is 120k+ I may look elsewhere as well..

This will be incredibly hot!

I can't decide between Red, Black, or Daytona Grey..

Normally I would never get a Red car, but on the RS5 I think it looks wicked!

That's exactly it Stockwizard. You're paying more for less with this ca (less fun, less involvement, less steering feel and feedback). Again most of these cars won't see a track so then why bother if it didn't bring something special? I've seen YouTube videos of guys doing some straight line runs and the M3 kept pulling away everytime. Steering feel is what makes you feel most connected to a car. Grant it the M3 doesn't have the best feel and feedback but after driving my cousin's C63 and hopping back into my car I felt the difference. The M3's steering seemed "clearer" for lack of a better would compared to the C63's which seemed "cloudy" (are we talking cars or weather here lol?). I know after a drive one might forgive the RS5 but to me it left too many issues on the table and you know how us guys are, any little thing will be used as ammunition when debates arise......and they will arise.

Haha I went with grey purely because it will be the easiest to keep clean. I have brilliant black on my current car. Nice clean, terrible dirty:usa7uh:

Unfortunately (as an Audi fan) the M3 Competition Pack beat the RS5 on Top Gear. Clarkson actually thought the normal M3 was better than both cars. :-).

The RS5 could have been so much better and should have been.

True. I wish it was a V10!! But I don't have the skill to control a M3 so a RS5 will have to do:t-cheers:

Just a gentle reminder in general...

This is the official thread for the RS5 and it is not an Internal Combustion thread. Therefore let's be careful about drawing comparisons and igniting a debate in this thread that we don't want. Sure, comparison is inevitable but the general idea is that we're here in this thread to appreciate the RS5 for the fine car that it is - or describe its shortcomings in isolation - rather than criticising it subjectively against its competitors. There are a number of threads where this kind of debate can be entered into.

Oh, and for what it's worth, in my observation Clarkson was "milking" the understeer thing for effect purposes. But let's pick that back up elsewhere ok?

Thanks...

Thanks Martin for this reminder, you are quite right and if possible could you move my post to the appropriate thread. :usa7uh:

P.S.
Nice to see someone else with the opinion that JC was milking the understeer for the purpose of good TV. :t-cheers:

I don't like the chrome mirrors.

From the RS5? Individual taste I guess cause recently, I have seen so many A5/S5's who have changed their mirrors to these. Changed their front grills also to the honeycomb.

Guess they are sheep in wolf clothing ;)

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
