A7/S7/RS7 Official: Audi A7

The rear is a bit hard to swallow but apart from that it's a stunning automobile.

The same applies to the new A8. Audi hit it on the nail with the design of the uber saloon but from the rear the tail lights appear over dimensioned and not very aesthetic unlike the rest of the car. The A5 Sportback has correctly sized tail light units: Distinctivly Audi, visible but sleek.

Am I the only idiot here?

The A7 does not look bad, but there insn't anything so special about it, and IMO it is not the best looking Audi at all. I like Q7 and R8 much more. And the best looking Audi IMO is the RS6. Even if I am not a fan of the new A8, I still like it more than the A7. Maybe the new A6 will show something new and nice, what I cannot see on this new A7.

Most of what you'll see in the A7 will makes it's way into the A6. The new A6 will be among the lightest in class (if not the lightest) and by adopting the same drivetrain as the RS5 will provide it will a much needed injection of involvement.

Both the A6 and A7 should be right up there with the very best in class.

But what about the design? You can put it on a Ferrari Chassis, but if the design is boring then what's the point?

That's your opinion, I am sure many will agree with you. But I am equally sure there is many which already like the look of this car and I can assure you that they will love it when they finally see it in person.

i was abit concerned about the rear lights when i saw the spy pictures, but personally i think its a beautiful car, and im sure the design makes more sense in person... cant wait to see it

I'm one of those whom do like the car. I just don't like that ugly ass rear. But the talk about boring design has more to do with AUDI's recent BLATANT "copy-paste" design. THAT is what's getting boring. It's as if they have just ran out of ideas.

I understand that design parity is a must to instantaneously identify the brand, which the huge grill does quite well, but that doesn't mean that each consecutive car looks near identical, except that someone with photoshop either stretched or shrunk the damn thing.

That is something I'm sure most here can't say I'm wrong on.

I think it all depends on your view, I do see your point but I also see striking similarities between all the BMW models, all the Mercedes models and the Porsche 911 models (Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne, Panamera and of course the 911). Interior wise I see similarities between models from each brand, this has been most noticeable with Merc and Audi but the same now applies to BMW, the X1, X3, X5, X6, 5er and 7er all share a very similar dash design. Do I see a problem with this? Of course not because it's logical and cost effective to share similarities in design.

The thing I like about the A7 is that it hold true to the concept both inside and out in much the same way as the original TT did, what does it matter if there's elements of the A7 you dislike, I bet you weren't a big fan of the TT either but it didn't stop it from being a roaring success which last time I checked is the most important thing for a manufacturer. One thing I will say against the A7 is that in my humble opinion it's basic shape mimics the Jaguar XJ which is more elegant and more pleasing on the eyes.

South, actually for the 525d the weight he quoted was indeed correct, you quoted for the manual where as he quoted like for like which was the 8sp automatic. Another thing, the size of the A7 is bigger than the 5er so to under cut it in weight is a heck of an achievement.

There is a difference between "similarities" and "copy-paste". Yes, you can confuse a 3er or 7er with the new 5er, but I don't think anyone will say "man, that looks like a stretched (or shrunken) ______". That is what MANY here have said about the new AUDIs, and I've even heard that from "normal" people who are your customers.

The MB though..WTH are you talking about? They have the MOST variety from the 3 germans. I don't think even blind people can confuse one of their cars for the other.

Also, I'm not talking about interiors here, I'm talking about exterior design. When I'm behind the wheel, the world doesn't see the insides, they see the exterior.

As for Porsche...You haven't been here long enough, but you should know I've criticized them on MANY occasions about their lazy ass designs.

The should have given this car a Passat CC like rear end and would have easily been the best looking 4 door coupe.

Still having trouble with the rear of the car, and hope that a normal A7 is coming out. I mean, they added the name "Sportback" here... Maybe for a reason? Maybe to built a normal coupé of the A7?

Btw, Im so surprised that so many people in realy life absolutely love the car...

LOL, that's for a freaking FWD A7. NOBODY is going to buy an FWD A7. They all have quattro, so you can add another 100 kg to the car...

That is what I want to see: 4 door convertible. I wonder how will they build such a long chassis, with such a large curt in the middle, for the two doors, yet being ridgid? How many models are in plan? Porsche Panamera Convertible and Audi A7 Convertible?

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
