A7/S7/RS7 Official: Audi A7

Who's the guy in the red pants?

More like pink. :D

And this is a pretty cool pic. A subtle sales pitch for the fastback shape - with a bit of aesthetics, aerodynamics, history, practicality all thrown in. People having trouble with the fast back shape, which includes me, should take a good look at it.

What other VAG car would a 4.0 TFSI double purpose in now when the 3.0 is being used across a wide range of cars? With a 394hp output and possible 620Nm it would outshine the long serving 4.8l V8 powering the Panny and Cayenne S which develop 400hp and 500Nm,

About OEM rims, BMW > Mercedes and Audi. Every model gets a large choice of exclusive rims. In Audi you can get RS rims with S-Line. On a BMW you cannot get the exclusive M car rims.

A7 front looks better than A8 front IMO, but Audi long front overhangs is a kill.

I see they used the Museum of Contemporary Art in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for a shooting location . It is like the saucermen parked their craft and went to the beach.
There is a BMW being filmed there at the moment but that is discussion for another time.

The A7 and Panamera aren't really head on competitors, more than an E-Class rivals a S-Class. What the A7 is doing, is locking customers into the VAG product line. By introducing the Passat CC, A5 Sportback, A7 and Panamea, VAG are on a mission to offer a four door coupe for every wallet. Post-A7, I forsee an inevitable four door coupe version of the Continental GT which will further underline VAG's intentions to dominate the auto industry by giving customers of either brand in the portfolio, no reason to look elsewhere for any car, regardless of size, shape or price. So the A7 and Panamera are more like allies than they are rivals. Not to mention the price difference between the two. A well specced Panny Turbo will most certainly be out of reach of the average A7/CLS customer.

When VW were venomous to all things Porsche around the illfated Porsche VW takeover, Audi mentioned the Panamera as a competitor to the A7 Sportback , now they have changed their tune.
Then again according to industry rumours we are about to be shown a similar concept by VW previewing their idea for the next Phaeton.
I remember Concept D @ IAA 1999 Which is more or less the direction they want to use.

Surprisingly, I like the head-on view of the rear, and of course the head-on view of the front. As well, the lines look great in those shadow-play pics at least, beefy enough, yet lean, simple, yet still detailed. IF they just used this stye of detail on something with a more traditional sleek 3-Box (like the A4, or A8), it could have looked great.

Let's see what the A6 has in store I guess.

car looks great, much better than its arch rival 5er GT, (but i actually quite fancy it funky look, could be my next car).

but why does every audi new car thread has to be flooded with negative comments from bimmer fanboys?

Well, the A7 and 5GT are both hatchbacks with an airy interior that's available as 4-seater and as a 5-seater. The only way we can really determine whether or not they can compete is whether they offer the same cargo utility. If they are similar in that arena, well then Audi did a good job by making one car that can compete against two from the same make. To me the A7 has the better, albeit derivative, exterior vs. the ghastly 5GT, but I quite like the 5GT's interior a bit more. If I need a hatchback, I'd go with the A7 here. If I need a 4-coupe, then probaly the production version of the Gran Coupe would win out.

Audi A7 explained - Design language

What was particularly striking, as you can see from the picture here, where he's put just two lines on, is how the slight divergence between in the two lines across the door - the swage line and the waist line - adds a sense of dynamism to the shape. It somehow superimposes a wedge-shaped purposeful poise on the car.

I’ve only seen the A7 indoors, where the major lines are all but hidden by the glare of the camera flashes and spotlights, but I’ll be interested to see whether you really get the effect in the open air, where the car will spend its time.

Respect,
i never thought the A7 will look like it looks now, i expected worse.
You now, i really dislike the corporate identity design wishi washi from Audi, but viewed seperatly from his brothers, the A7 looks quite nice.

But still: a coupe has to have two doors and a more useless overall aspect. And bigger engines...
If they build a real A7 coupe with only two large doors and something about 500hp +... yes this would be a car i (might) like.
:)

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
