A1/S1 Official: Audi A1

The Audi A1 is a luxury supermini car produced by Audi. Predecessor: Audi 50, Audi A2. Production: 2010-2026.
You know exactly what I mean, Autobild and Autoexpress are one and the same, Axel Springer does the publishing in Europe and Dennis does it in the UK but they are still one and the same pulling and sharing information at they get it as they do with all the other publications Autobild run in different countries throughout Europe. And as both are indeed the same is it not fair to assume that both had the same information from Michael Dick.

If you are calling me wrong then you are calling Autoexpress wrong and in turn questioning the information provided by Autobild which is after all your evidence for your claim.

No footie, i don't know what you mean. What you're saying does not make sense at all.

Both are owned by different publishers, so they're both free to publish content that are different from one another.

Both have got different journalists who obtain information from different sources. I'm more inclined to believe the german journalists who receive their information from german sources directly from the german companies.

And yes, i'm saying that autoexpress is wrong. Its not the first time that they're wrong and it won't certainly be the last. And no, i'm not in-turn saying that autobild is wrong either because as mentioned above, both titles are owned by different publishers so both are not obligated to publish the same info.

Autocar are also saying that the A1 Quattro will come in 1.4TFSI form, the model positioned just below the S1 though they are not mentioning which engine it might likely have.

Autoexpress are also suggesting that the A1 Quattro will come in a 1.6TDI form, probably in two favours (140hp and 170hp).

Will post Autocar's write up later on today.

Here's the scan.

A 1.6TDI at 170 hp? Impressive.

A 1.6TDI at 170 hp? Impressive.

That 170hp figure is purely spectulation from me and not from any source, I just reckon that they will try and match off performances in both petrol and diesel forms and as diesel is increasingly becoming the number one seller it may be a wise move.

Ive not been reading much into the arguement thats been going on but I can confirm that Autoexpress and Autobild are linked as one. I know because ive been in touch with the editor of Autoexpress and Autocar and they are sister companies of Autobild and Automotorundsport respectively (If thats what Footie has been trying to say)

That was exactly what I was saying. So as I said before, why would two magazine which are effectively the same publishment that share info post conflicting information. Autoexpress are printing exactly the same information as I have been saying here, South is claiming this is wrong and use as his proof Autobild which is the sister magazine of Autoexpress.

I think we are both right, there will be a mainstream production model of the A1 Quattro and that will run the 182hp 1.4TFSI and there will probably be a limited run special with 220-230hp which will be called the S1, the only thing I am questioning is the capacity size, Autobild say 2.0L and Autoexpress say 1.6L. I do you there was a rumor that VW wanted a 1.6L to allow their Polo version of this car to enter a certain class of international rallying, I happen to agree with Autoexpress because of this rumor.

It will be interesting to watch and see who was right on this debate.

I am not your typical Audi fan but, today I saw an A1 and sat in it. Honestly, its a great little car. Very stylish and beautifully put together with a top-notch and REAL premium interior 10/10 Audi!;):t-cheers:

If I was give a pound every time some one told me this I wouldn't be a millionaire but I would have a heavy pocket full of change. :D

I have a staff member currently driving an A3 S/Line Black Edition that is seriously considering downsizing to one of these simply because he loves the looks and interior.

P.S.
I would love to hear dr Dunkel's impression of the A1 as he is driving arguably the best small city type car there is.

So, is this supposed to be AWD, or still FWD?

New Audi S1 Renders and Spy Photos Reveal Upcoming Smallest S-car Rate
It's a little known fact that the Audi S1 was supposed to be revealed nearly a year ago at the Paris Auto show. Paris organizers even listed the car as a headliner on the show website for a while but for some reason not shared wtih us, sources at Audi AG tell us the car was pulled from the mix. Several months later though in January, we had a chance to test drive a prototype A1 1.4 TFSI quattro prototype that also happened to have been built for Audi AG boss Rupert Stadler's personal evaluation. . That car featured Audi's 1.4T FSI that's already available in the A1, though more pertinent to the S1 it was fitted with a prototype of all-wheel drive setup.

You see, Audi's never built an S-car without quattro and they weren't about to start with their handsome compact. The all-wheel drive system will not surprisingly be the latest version of the Haldex system also used in other transverse engine Audis such as the TT and A3 variants. However, the S1 will get a bump from a higher horsepower 1.4. We haven't heard a power figure yet but the spy photographer source says perhaps as much as 270 horsepower. If so, that'd match the old B5 S4 and certainly make for a very capable package. It's important to note though, we haven't yet been able to corroborate a power figure with any of our sources.

Earlier today spy photographers shot this blue A1 running with Audi's usual test engineer teams outside of their plant in Germany. From what we can see, the car appears as if it could be an S1 test mule, wearing S-line body trim, dual exhausts and large wheel and brake setup.

Red S1 images included in this story are renders created by our staff that depict how we believe the S1 will appear in final trim. Note: we've made few changes to an S-line variant, but changes consistent with current Audi S-car trim including grille with horizontal silver struts, silver accent work on the lower intakes and of course S1 badges.

The test mule isn't going to be to full production trim for obvious reasons but you can see they likely aren't very far off.

Given the S1 had an original debut slot in the latter half of last year, we expect the car to make its debut later this year. Frankfurt might be one such opportunity but Audi has also proven more than willing to pull cars out at other stand-alone or non-traditional events and the S1 might prove an interesting subject for such a reveal.

Styling wise, the A1 just doesn't work for me. This 5 door won't help matters either.

Oh dear...

[BTW, wouldn't it make sense that Audi debuts the 5-dr A1 at Frankfurt?]

• A1 also supplements its existing 1.6-litre 105PS TDI engine with 143PS 2.0-litre TDI engine linked to six-speed manual transmission
• A1 2.0 TDI available to order now in conjunction with Sport, S line, Black Edition and Contrast Edition specification priced from £17,945 OTR

Getting personal with the Audi A1 becomes even easier from this week thanks to new Black Edition and Contrast Edition specification options that take different routes to achieve an even more striking and exclusive look. The new design options can now also be combined with a more powerful 2.0-litre, 143PS TDI engine that complements the existing 1.6-litre, 105PS unit.

Contrast Edition specification is available for a premium of £1,350 over the price of an equivalent A1 Sport model, and in conjunction with all engines in the A1 range with the exception of the 1.4 TFSI 185PS. It brings a contrasting colour for the roof line and for aerodynamic body styling elements that are also added over and above the Sport specification, plus larger 17-inch ‘five-arm’ design bi-colour alloy wheels that expand on the Sport model’s 16-inch examples. For a more resolutely sporty look a double-blade roof spoiler, also in a contrasting colour, can be added at extra cost.

The Black Edition alternative is based on the top S line specification, and is available exclusively in conjunction with the 185PS 1.4-litre TFSI petrol engine and the newly introduced 143PS 2.0-litre TDI. For a premium of £1,100 over the S line models, it adds a black styling treatment for the single frame grille surround and number plate holder, dark tinted rear privacy glass, 18-inch five-arm rotor design alloy wheels in a titanium finish in place of the S line model’s 17-inch equivalents and Xenon Plus headlights with LED daytime-running lights. Inside, it also brings full electronic climate control as an enhancement to the S line model’s manual air conditioning and the Audi Sound System speaker upgrade giving 180 watts of output.

More TDI power
Alongside the additional scope for visual enhancement offered by the two new specification options comes the potential for even greater TDI pace thanks to the fifth and latest introduction to the A1 engine range. The 2.0-litre TDI with common-rail fuel injection is available in conjunction with Sport, S line, Contrast Edition and Black Edition specification levels, and is priced from £17,945 OTR. It develops 143PS and maximum torque of 320 Nm between 1750 and 2500 rpm – enough to push the A1 2.0 TDI with six-speed manual transmission to 62mph from rest in 8.2 seconds on the way to a top speed of 135mph.

Impressive 68.9mpg combined economy complements this strong performance, and pares CO2 output back to 108g/km, positioning the A1 2.0 TDI very favourably in VED band B (£20 per annum).

The A1 TDI range also includes the 1.6 TDI with a VED and congestion charge-eliminating 99g/km CO2 output, and from the petrol-powered camp the similarly turbocharged and directly-injected 1.2-litre TFSI with 86PS and 1.4-litre TFSI with 122PS. At the head of the range in output terms is the 1.4-litre TFSI with 185PS, which combines supercharging and turbocharging to achieve its impressive output.

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951).
