A1/S1 Official: Audi A1

The Audi A1 is a luxury supermini car produced by Audi. Predecessor: Audi 50, Audi A2. Production: 2010-2026.
good to see something different from Audi, the exterior is fresh and cute (lol) but the interior could use some help.
:eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :t-cheers:

The issue yet to be seen (or driven) is if the A1 is different enough from it's families underpinnings - Ie VW Polo , Seat Ibiza.
It's all very well to claim the premium crown with interior detail but when your product is not entirely much different from the other VAG families.

With the A1 Audi are about to flatline A3 sales in the present thanks to the more premium A1 and then there is Sister brand SEAT that like to claim the sportiest emotional supermini title that is marketed with the Ibiza. What future for SEAT now?

With today being the release of the A1 we had a focus group for an upcoming MINI R56 model ( to be seen later this year) and showed MINI customers the A1 , a majority were not impressed and the interior was the only stand out.

I thought I seen an A1 tonight alas it was the SEAT Ibiza which can be made available with the same roof detail as the A1 in a colour of your choice.

Audi is usually very good at hiding the brotherhood with a VW. Drive an A3, no way in hell you could say it's actually a Golf platform. So I'm not worried for that.

Didn't think they would - but Audi really made it happen. I'm completely, utterly smitten with the interior treatment. It shows that cheap doesn't have to be cheap, so long as you have quality ideas, get things right where they count and respect the limitations of your budget and packaging.

I think Audi has delivered a car that squeezes as much dignity-per-square-inch out of the A-segment package as is humanly possible.

As for the North America - It's easy to understand that Audi is still trying to build their "premium foundation" and are still, effectively a B-Tier luxury brand with BMW, MB and Lexus still running the show. The A3 already strains Audi's premium credentials, so the A1 is completely out of the question - though it's a real shame. This car would be a shoo-in for my wife, who is currently driving a Yaris and would love to drive an Audi.

Sitting now on audi.com and the A1 configurator...
:icondrool This car is actualy for the moment one of my dream cars..
Perfect I'd say...

That's how I'd spec mine

I must say it looks vicious in black with white roof arch. :D:usa7uh::icondrool

Definitely more aggressive looking than MiTo or MINI. As Audi official said: "When others offer pop, we offer rock."

I hope it also drives like a true "rock" - not just as "rock-wannabe" ala Avril L., Pink etc :usa7uh:

Another rock image you do not want to have associated with your new funky youth wagon:

It looks great to me. Cute and aggressive at the same time. I love it.

Here are some retarded comments from other forums by the way. Bunch of stupid p*ssies. :t-crazy2:

Retarded Moron 1:

You know that Audi wasn't thinking when the decided to call the car the A1. Obviously, it follows their nomenclature for cars, but they could have taken another route like they did with the TT.

Design wise, it's a big "NO" from me. If VW could design a good looking hatch like the Golf, why couldn't Audi design something better? This car just looks cheap to me. If they bring it to the US, how are they going to price this?

Thanks, but I'll take a Mini Cooper any day over this.

Retarded Moron 2:

Key word here is premium. Sorry, but this does not look like a premium small car to me. The interior is basically no better than a Golf or Jetta.

The exterior leaves a lot to be desired.

I honestly don't see how European customers will buy this over a Mini, or Fiat 500, or a Golf, or even a 1 Series or A Class.

Retarded Moron 3:

It just looks so weak and lame. Even more girly than the Beetle.

This does nothing for the brand. I don't care how well it drives or its other qualities, based solely on styling, it's the worst in the mini-car segment. Anything is better than this. Even the Yaris is way better!

:t-crazy2:

Looks like a Fiat 500....and in my books it's not a good thing when a German luxury brand looks like a Fiat :eusa_thin

I hope it also drives like a true "rock" - not just as "rock-wannabe" ala Avril L., Pink etc

Or even worse Disney "Craprock".

That's the Jonas Brothers by the way , and yes I have a teenage daughter . So I have to put up with this ,Hannah Montana and that Twilight nonsense. Though I can see why they brought Justin Timberlake in to the mix the 5dr A1 Sportback is already marketed - All together now " I'm driving a Sexy "Sport" Back YEAH! :D

I guess Mercedes will have to contribute to this konsert of pop and rock, by brining Hiphop. I patiently await the Lil Wayne version of their rumored hatch back based on the B-Class :D

The A1 German market price starting @ ~ €16k is in line with MINI and thus slightly higher than MiTo (€14.5k for base MiTo model with 86HP) - slightly higher, but the MINI LCI will also bring increase in price so the cars will be even.

IMO A1 has much quite a potential in Europe - since it's a full-usable sub-compact car. MINI is certainly not since rear seat is almost unusable, and a boot space is a joke. MINI is more of a toy for great motoring. A1 will be also useful & practical for other things as well. Just like MiTo.

But ... Will there be any cross-shopping between A1 & A3? IMO it will be. Quite a lot. In favor of A1. At least when 3dr A3 is concerned. Especially until new 3dr A3 is launched. And even later - since both aim at the same customer base: young people without a family. Or older ladies with grown up kids.

Cross-shopping will be present as with the Mini and 1-Series, but this will mostly affect the lower-end A3 models. Don't expect the A1 to feature an engine even equal to the popular 1.8T. Regardless of that, there are individuals who wants a "normal" car with full usability and the A1 or Mini simply won't do. So the threat against the A3 isn't anymore than that of the Polo against the Golf.
