Don't they sell BMWs in Greece? :p

They do and people actually buy them! (*)

Say anything you want, but I'm into the 12th year of ownership of my S60 and I've seen one that is identical to mine only once. And that, while it had the same colour and rims, was a pre-facelift model. I like the fact that I drive something that's not to be found everywhere I look.

(*) It's interesting that even though the country is going through tough times, unemployment is officially around 40%, in reality more close to 55%, with the new car market basically collapsed, that luxury brands still manage to sell cars in the same numbers as the Toyota Yaris (for example).

Start-stop button on the steering wheel. Fine on a Ferrari but I'm not sure it's the safest place to locate it on a car intended for a mainstream audience.
I've never tried hitting the Start-stop button on my car at speed (not sure what'll happen to be honest) but at crawl speeds it shuts the engine off! :D

You know what would be safe to have in such a case?

A manual gearbox, so that you can put in the appropriate gear, let go of the clutch and restart your engine.

:D

Considerably less impressive looking in base model guise. Interior fit and finish questionable. Nothing to worry about here, Germany.

Agreed.

Especially with fit & finish, I think this is where the game will be lost for the Giulia. Lower dashboard and door plastics look like hardboard and the overall finish is nowhere near the german levels.

But, (and it's a big but) there's no piano black and the fundamental values are there.

I, of course, reserve my final judgement until I lay my hands on one, but it's very promising.

I was just about to mention this...The QV model looked so bad-@ss, sort of drooled all over the show cars they had in Frankfurt last year, this one does not invoke a fraction of the emotions I went through last year seeing the QV variant...

And yes, even the fit and finish seems to have been toned down...Sad that yet another promising BMW/Merc/Audi rival assumes its position behind the German trio

I've tried a couple of times in mine, and nothing happens, unless the car comes full stop and then only you can shut the engine off.

^ Take a look at the panel gaps around the HVAC controls and the transmission tunnel console. Look at the edging between the "wood" fascia trim and the display cover.

^ Look at how the switch panel has a gap between the door pull.

You can put stitching everywhere you like to create a faux feeling of premium but it really does look like these are hurried-together pre-production cars and that Giulia is, still, someways off.

FCA at it's worst. Looks poorly and cheaply built and with the rumors about this car failing internal crash testing, I have NO confidence in this car. Best to wait a few model years before even thinking about this car. Shame because the basic design is pretty hot.

i am hoping the poor fitment is because these are pre-production cars. That being said, if that's the case, that's not exactly putting your best foot forward, now is it?

I think that long time ago, I said here that the QV model was very aggresive and hot, but regulars versions would not be as good. Ii's anything "regular" and more in FCA, specially in terms if design, because front and rear don't convey elegance, just anything very normal. Looks like one car more, without the typical italian elegance and sport design seen in other Alfa's models.

I'm agreed with all that think that there're a lot of plastics in the interior and, by experience, to be at the same level from one BMW, for example, one customer is going to need a lot of money.

Of course, I'm agreed with Martinbo, Germans can be quiets, but in other markets, I'm sure they're not going to get the units sold waited because the customer will compare the prices between this one and one Audi, BMW or Mercedes and it's very sharp what they will choose.

Alfa Romeo has tried to do one good product to compete with germans and... they have not got.
